@Spartan 506 lockdowns have been proven to be inefficient? New Zealand enacted a full heavy lockdown when the virus was first reported in China. So far they have infected people in the double digits. America, instead played off the virus, calling it a hoax or just saying it wont be an issue. Then they enacted light lockdown conditions, after the virus was shown to have spread across the west coast past the Appalachians. Based on how lockdowns are supposed to function, they act as social vaccines, trying to stop any kind of spread before an infection arises.
Based on this, your conclusion is that the vaccine (lockdown) doesnt work because you took it while you were sick. What kind of karen anti-vax bullshit is that?
And please, explain why New Zealand, a major beneficiary to australia, which was one of the first nations to have the pandemic, do so well when all theyve done is a lockdown? Because the difference here is they enacted a heavy lockdown properly, unlike many other nations, especially the US. Hell, New Zealand didnt even suffer an economic collapse.

    • @lasaromorell1487
      @lasaromorell1487 4 роки тому

@@sandshark2 I agree, the point of a lockdown is not to wait until the virus gets up on its feet and leave due to an unknown miracle, but to hunker down and await a cure. For some reason, instead of strengthening regulations, here in America we have lightened them. Additionally, just because a virus has a low fatality rate does not mean we should ignore it. Nature is not a linear thing and can mutate in the future, should we ignore and let it fester, the end result would be disastrous. Since disease is hard for most to imagine, let us instead imagine a mass serial killer, let us also suppose said serial killer has the means to constantly escape capture and move from city to city, country to country, continent to continent. Now, would you allow this killer off just because he only kills a couple people, because in relation to the number of people in said location, the fatality rate of encountering said killer is low? That is sheer fallacy, forsaking the future for the present simply because you don’t comprehend the implications of letting such a thing run rampant.

I know 2020 has had it's (significant) problems and I'm not blinding myself to them, but equally I feel it's been a valuable year for me on a personal level, so certainly don't feel it sucks. I guess it comes down to personal perspective

  • @timothybell5698

2020 has made me happier than I've ever been in my life.
Everyone changes, but I stay the same. I call myself a Christian atheist because, when I was five years old, we were learning about Jesus, and I thought to myself 'You know... That guy seems pretty chill, I think everyone ought to be a bit more like that guy'. Of course, I didn't actually think that, because I was five, in all likelihood a teacher told us we should strive to be like Jesus.
It's served me well, too. Who else can roll with prostitutes and drug dealers and still feel comfortable dealing with police? Someone like Jesus.
Anyway, having such a contemplative as my role model, I spent my life just being the same, and reminding people that they really ought to have a bit of perspective, and not be constantly ruled by their desires. To recognise that when they're mourning, the best way to cope is to understand that it means one day you will be comforted. Optimism is foolish, maybe, but it works.
2020 has basically been me laughing with friends and listening to remixes of Komm Susser Todd. Just strolling down the street happily whistling a tune the English translation of which is 'Come, sweet death'. Like, the more you all buy these fucking SUVs and what have you, the more time I spend in the infrared sauna as a form of preparation. It's so dumb, and all I can really do is watch UA-cam videos by brilliant creatives and laugh at how dumb it all is.

Hopelessness being a source for hope, motivation, and will to fix your situation...
I can't belive this went through your mind without some red light going off.
Hopelessness is above all else irrational. Because if it feels like all hope is lost any action, including inaction, is just as rational as any other action, because we feel it will not matter either way.
In a game of chess, if you are stuck in a check mate sequence, every move is as good as any other.
However, life is not chess. The rules that life plays by are orders of magnitude higher in complexity. Thus, calling any situation hopeless, is a false loss, even if Houdini himself could not escape it by the power of his wit alone.
Accounting for all of this, and assuming we realize the situation is hopeless, it should be obvious that our fate resides in the collective irrational decision of whether to do something that ends up fixing the problem, or do something that makes it worse.
Now, how do you stack this equation in the favor of humanity? Realizing you are dum, and so is the rest of humanity certainly tips the scale in favor of annihilation.
No, it is a truly destructive statement, and I - a frequent shitposter - am mildly offended by it.
We ought to be better, expect better, and demand better of each other. Both in thought and action, and to the point of complete social trust. So that when the great day comes and we realize situation is hopeless, we have the mental fortitude to chose to stand and fight whatever Lovecraftian horror we are facing, together.
The video is great, but I'm afraid the last 10 or so minutes are bs.
At least the bias is so blatantly obvious in every single topic that i have to conclude it is on purpose to highlight it, which i guess is honest.

That was surprisingly uplifting. I've often taken a cynical stance, but this somewhat reignites my want to scream back against the darkness. To hold back the darkness that awaits us in any way I can. 2020 has just felt like the culmination of all my brooding doomer musings, but in a way its good, like a bandaid being ripped off. Because now that it has blown up in such a spectacular method it will hopefully have incensed enough people so as to facilitate meaningful change. A fire is often what is needed to reinvigorate a forest, before a farmer sows his seed he lights his field on fire, this in all honesty might be looked back upon as a good thing in the long run.
