J.R visits Edgar or Egdar Randolph in hospital (I think it was Edgar) Randolph: "Why would you do such a thing"? J.R: "WELL IT WOULD TESTIFY TO THE FACT THAT J.R EWING ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES"! :😂😂😂
@@patricks.7090 I have watched the entire series on DVD - to me this is the best line. If you think there is one better, then please tell us. The entire Dallas mystique is based upon the Jock Ewing - Digger Barnes dynamic! To simply say what you said without offering anything is rather sad! What would Jock or JR say to you!
Love Jock and JR's little side conference at the end. It demonstrates that Jock raised JR to be the family attack dog - suspicious and ruthless. JR did Jock's dirty work and, more often than not, JR took the heat, which allowed Jock to maintain his "tough but fair" persona. The only characters who truly understood this dynamic were Ellie and Bobby and this is why they gave JR more leeway when it came to his deceptions and his schemes.
Miss Ellie told JR that she would never forgive him for mortgaging Southfork and Jock regretting making him so ruthless. He crossed the line with both of them when he did that.
I noticed that too and i like the two of them conspiring together since bobby was jock’s favorite - it was rare as time went on because it seemed later in the series it was jr against everybody else
Also in those days it was very easy to fake things. Identity, A Death and the like. Did you see how The Family stared at him not knowing who he was. It was like they were Warriors going up against The Enemy. Co-Incidentally Ewing is a Scottish Name for Warriors.
I don't give a damn what a person's reasons are ..... you don't play dead for 40 yrs and come back thinking folks suppose to understand and take you right in. You stay gone that long, then just stay gone forever.
JR lived for those moments with "Daddy". Remember how happy and proud he was with the first Ewing Family Photo where Jock has his hand on JR's shoulder.
Also in many ways the Legacy of Dallas was felt on other Soap Operas like Guiding Light and Texas (A Spinoff Of Another World). In the UK Emmerdale Emulated certain storylines. From bringing in The Tates who were the most powerful Family in The village owning The Haulage Company aka Garbage Company, owned several Cottages which made them Landlords/Landladies, The Vet's Clinic, and another Breeded her own Horses. Then they did The Who Killed Tom King they had different versions of who killed him then it was discovered that it was his Youngest Son (& Favorite) who did it. He was so sick and tired of his Father interfering he killed him
Hmmm ! Jock and JR ! Always agree when they have to fight a non-Ewing. Only the blood counts for them before what's right. That's the difference with Bobby.
Where's the scene where the family fights about the ranch belonging to Garrison or something like that. I'm looking for that scene. Some parts between Jock and Miss Ellie was hilarious.
J.R. is so unlike Jock, physically. Jock is like an old cowboy, weatherbeaten, craggy-faced, still in blue jeans; J.R. has short hair, and wears business suits. I think Bobby must take after Jock, in looks.
There is actually a famous storyline where the family went to meet Jock's first wife, who had been in an institution for decades. She still thought that it was the 1930's, and mistook Bobby for Jock! Also, in the movie "Dallas: The Early Years", the young Jock, played by Patrick Duffy look-alike Dale Midkiff, had some of Bobby's exact same facial expressions and mannerisms!
People forget that even before Bobby came back from the dead other characters did before him!! Garison, dusty , rebecca Wentworth and mark grayson!! They were all presumed dead at one stage only to turn up alive and well .ok mark turned out to be a dream but it was cannon at the time!!
@@martinjenkins5471 Right On! Jock was so disgusted and angry seeing Garrison and with some Justification. After all where it not for him, Miss Ellie would have lost Southfork. Also as far as Jock was concerned, a "Man" steps up and takes care of business, not run. Garrison "Ran" and Gary "Ran" as well.
@1:51 listen to how obscure the backtalk it..Bobby:"this is a famous", JR:"so he's been away all this time..That was one lost senior"..If she'd of said get out they'd all b saying "Yah Yah..Get on!"
Back in Seeds Of Yesterday, remember how shocked Cathy & Chris were to meet Joel Foxworth. He was a real Son Of A Witch but until reading Garden Of Shadows, you understand how nasty he was. You'd be pretty peeved knowing that you're Sister's offspring were getting all of the Foxworth Money not to mention The House, and you get nothing although you have just as much entitlement.

The Shirt & Tie JR is wearing was the same one that JR wore when Bobby bought Pam a New Toy and he told Sue Ellen not to wait up for him since he's working late.
Oh please! He came back because he wanted that money, if he really cared about his sister, he wouldn't have let her believe he was dead for 40 years. He didn't stick around for the tough times. JR and Jock had EVERY RIGHT to be suspicious of Garrison's true motives. I don't believe he was dying at all, or wanted closure with the family, that's bull! He wanted money, and of course he wanted Southfork. That's all he wanted. He didn't give a damn about his sister. Seriously, Miss Ellie was naïve as hell to believe anything her brother said.
Oh you are right but in many ways he was like Gary. He ran when things got rough and tough. As for pretending to be Dead he felt that it was better for everyone involved. He had no money, couldn't hold on to The Southfork. I wonder what he would think of what Miss Ellie did to "hold" on To Southfork.
@@derekmathews1818 Your theory doesn't make a damn bit of sense. He didn't ask for a penny and he ended up dying on the ranch. Miss Ellie told Clayton the story years later and showed him Garrison's tombstone on Southfork.
Early Dallas was the best ...
I agree
Got that right! No doubt about it.

at 2:50, Jock says, "been away 40 years and all he talks about is Digger Barnes." That has to be the best line in the entire series.
No. There are much better lines, if you've watched the entire series.
J.R visits Edgar or Egdar Randolph in hospital (I think it was Edgar)
Randolph: "Why would you do such a thing"?

True but my point was that I wished we had met him in the original series as well as other members of Jock's family if there were any.
Jason’s death was referred to and then his son and daughter showed up. No mention was ever made of Jock and Jason’s that I know of.

Dag! Garrison was much like his nephew Gary. They are estranged from the family after running off. Sidenote: 70's Pamela is fooyne!
Gary was alot like his uncle
All Dallas is Great!
The cast was so talented great actors. Miss the show...
Sue Ellen's choke 3:03 cracked me up.
The Butler Raoul was in alot of Episodes. This one, The Episode where he got stuff out of Jock's Car as well as when Bobby & Pam "Left" Southfork.
