There is also a population at Ventnor in the Isle of Wight on only one wall. Interestingly they come in two colours. The green ones are separated from the more grey ones by a path about 4 feet wide and live in a bank of ivy whilst the ones the same colour as the wall live on the wall. Evolution in action.
I believe these have been introduced in the last 30 years, nothing to do with victorians. If you look at Podarcis muralis found just across the channel, they are the more brownish/grey form, not the green type. These green ones found along the south coast of England i believe were introduced deliberately. I even was told by someone they were regularly releasing Wall lizards bred in the UK. They bred the green ones just like the ones in this video
@BritishHerpetology apparently it is very common to find Lizard bones in Owl droppings. They must like eating them. How a nocturnal animals feeds on reptiles who bask in the sun I have no idea. But I remember reading this and thinking WTF. 😆
Wow they are gorgeous. I would love to to see one. Today I came across a slow worm. The other week an adder but it saw me first and quickly disappeared. I'm always on the lookout for wildlife as I do a lot of walking.
They are, it is a shame they shouldn't be here! With the reptiles you've seen, could you please report your observations here? Every dot on the map counts! www.recordpool.org.uk/

They're all over the place now, it is insane how rapidly they have adapted to our climate.
They are stunning.Venice,s climate is not too different from ours except the light is brighter.

There are a number of recorded releases dating back over 100 years however I agree that there have been others since.
Owl snacks. If we didn't have such a healthy owl population we would see more of these.
What do you mean? Have you seen owls feeding on wall lizards?
