Cinematographer and director Alan Kozlowski presents an intimate look at a 91-year-old Ravi Shankar performing in southern California in October 2011. Kozlowski offers a uniquely personal perspective on Ravi Shankar. The filmmaker has studied music with Ravi since 1978, and has produced a documentary honoring Ravi called "Sangeet Ratna" and co-produced with George Harrison a collection of Ravi's work called "In Celebration." The love of subject is clear in the film, but it's Ravi's raw and powerful performance that leaves the most lasting impression. Though Ravi has curtailed his busy touring schedule, his playing continues to draw intense praise. Songlines magazine says that the master has lost "absolutely nothing in the way of musical virtuosity, technical brilliance and the kind of high-energy passion that belongs in concert performances." East Meets West Music is proud to release this important testament to a great artist simply unable to stop making transformative music.

He looks like a warrior and a saint at the same time. Legend.
That is the best comment EVER! So true. In the 'Gita all the saints were warriors! Saw Ravi twice 1/ Monterey Pop and
2/ In The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC with Allah Rakha. May we all look like warrior saints at that age!
He is a musician. Much better than warrior or saint
@@patapierna1 yes
@@patapierna1do you know the meaning of real warrior or Saint.
@@jethiya7990 I understand that it is a positive comment, of course, made with great love. I don't like war or religion, this is the meaning of the words I wrote. Please don't be offended
God the sitar has to be like the prettiest instrument of all time
Listen to this.. ua-cam.com/video/x503CCUui8U/v-deo.html
It is called as Sitar
I guess thats what makes legends. They make their instrument sounnd the prettiest with their absolute mastery and Shri Ravi Shankar does the same with sitar
It takes a legend and a lifetime of practise to play like Ravi Shankar....
@@MisfitoX What type of nut are you?
Still rocking the sitar in his 90s! What a legend!
A musician doesn't stop even till his death
Oh my god he is playing this at 91 years. Feels like being in heaven. Truely music can make you forget anything and everything
Because he worshipped Music not just Played :)
1:20-1:25 😍
And then the face expressions! My god! He is living the music, not playing!
He looks so divine like a Brahma with that beard
True
He is hurting though. He can't sit on the floor anymore and the angle of his sitar hurts his wrist. I love Ravi Shankar and I can see that the old master is slowly fading.
Yall stupid
@@yo-nr1cv ... and what are you?

He really is happy ! Beautiful
Каким он был замечательным музыкантом! Гениальный человек! Восхищаюсь им по сей день. Всем привет из России!
What a wonderful musician he was! Man of genius! I admire him to this day. Hello everyone from Russia!
Love from Indian brother, we know these days Russia is in war but we are with you. May your country stay strong.
Imagine what immense amount of practice he had gone through. So after crossing 90 , he was still able to play at this level.
Every time I hear this divine type of music from India, I feel very connective to this transcendental music. It is expressing the archetype of sound unique in the universe. Yet it comes from ancient India, the home of major religions that have left their mark on the spiritual growth of mankind.

Same, my uncle is a bassist but he has a sitar and my dad’s fam has always had something with India and when I first saw the sitar as a little little boy I got obsessed and now I always wish luck to Pandit Raviji Shankar
Nmskar. perhaps Ravi's SITAR Adventures is now world (not only Indian) heritage - incorporating Nature, the Beatles, his social interactions, and the places he lived- like in Encondido San Dgo...perhaps much like the legendary ARRahman ua-cam.com/video/bDA0Z6yr1PI/v-deo.html
i love this man since i was a kid .. greeting from Morocco
Likewise and Aloha from Maui... we are growing Ketama genetics :)
The most distinct sounding stringed instrument I’ve ever heard.
Ravi....since the 1970's this man has enlighten me thru his music. Higher consciousness achieved just by clearing your mind and letting this man's music take you on a trip thru ethereal planes and dimension. Some may see God, I for one see the interconnections of humanity. Love is the message, love is the cure.
Raised in North County San Diego and saw Ravi + his daughter in Escondido and Oceanside on many a musical interlude. Best times and magical moments. Thank you for the music.
What musical venues on Escondido n Oceanside hosts events like this? I recently moved there.

Ravi was an inspiration,a beautiful human being.His legacy is awesome.what a life!Jai guru deva.om shanti.......peace.
One of the most mystical-sounding instruments to ever exist (alongside the veena).
He is himself his first audience. He is amazed by what he is playing.
Lucky are those who have seen his performance live!!
He is looking divine.
Undoubtedly He is God of Music..
Generation will come and go but his Charisma will remain the same.
I can listen to this for my entire life ❤️
I find myself drawn to Ravi more and more as I age. First became enlightened in the early 70's at the age of 13 through George Harrison and the Beatles. Now at the age of 65, I find myself devouring his music.
RIP BHARAT RATNA RAVI SHANKAR
This is such beautiful music! Ravi Shankar was a genius and his legacy is amazing!
Music is such a universal language, I love the way it made me think of B.B.King playing with Richie Sambora!

he's been playing for 100 years now. What a mensch,

Considering he was born in 1920 and started playing later, and lived less than 10 decades, this is impossible. I wonder what this video title is trying to say.
ColtraneTaylor tenth decade has not completed ,it has just started . Its like 9+
Rest in peace maestro.
Que grande del Sitar..!! desde que lo escuche en Monterrey Pop....1967...que me gusta la musica Hindú,...!! y Anoushka Shankar....su hija....ni te digo...!! otra GRANDE...!!!

This was the video that actually inspired me to finally get a sitar after fantasising about owning one for ages! ❤

this music is a testament to genius of India.
Several times I feel as if it's not a sitar but a koyal bird calling for its mate.
Listening to Ravi Shankar over the decades has brought me endless joy. I was lucky enought to see the master twice - in 1967 at the Hollywood Bowl, and again in SF, maybe 2011. I feel like being at these two concerts represented a bookend of the deep appreciation I have for him and the music he created. He is among the highest of musicians in my personal pantheon of the greats.

Yes I agree Bharat Ratna bestowed upon Ravi Shankar is much well deserved.
No man has ever brought so much enlightenment to so many souls. Unites all religions and beliefs through his ethereal genius. I hope that whatever exists upon that epic moment we all must endure, Death, that I hear Ravi and his music welcoming me.

Great....Legend Ravi naman
Oh my..... Amazing!!!!!
we’re lucky to have this recorded, just wow. thank you.
Back in the day he was friends with George Harrison from the Beatles. Ravi asked for help with the civil war. George quickly got together the first serious benefit concert... The Concert For Bangladesh 1971!. The last album Ravi did before passing "Chants from India" about 2000, George was the producer! George passed first 2001. Then most of them came back for "The Concert For George". Ravi's daughter Anoushka was the star. Beautiful concert. Giant picture of George's face there too.😢
Ravi Shankar Ji s sitar sounds saying: guru ji, guru ji, guru ji!
Amazing..thank you sir🙏
I love the conversations between the players and their instruments. Such play is good for the heart, and soul.
