This American loves the music of India. It always conjures to my mind ancient civilizations with mystic holy men and the teeming masses of India going about their day to day lives. It makes me think of the Hindu gods and legends and vast temples. India was ancient before my country even existed. Now it is the world's largest democracy. America should be friends with India. We could learn a lot from them. And their music, there's something intangible, indescribable, transcendent about it. Like a mote of light that when I look directly at it, it disappears. Namaste to all my Indian brothers and sisters from Towson, MD.!
She is the essence of beauty and grace ... her father's beloved daughter. When she plays I see visions ,,, what a grand gift to the world! Thank you, Anoushka.
Thank you Anoushka for carrying on your father’s legacy. The sweet sound of Sitar has yet to be appreciated by the younger generation. Maybe one day they’ll find it and be mesmerized by its uniqueness.
@@arkaprabha.chakraborty best of luck mate. Young generation needs to know our rich heritage so as to carry it's reins forward to show the world how rich our culture is. God bless you bro.
I am from the "new" generation and it's such a pitty that most of us can't appreciate the beauty of classical music burdened by peer pressure and shadowed by western music... This is such a beautiful piece and I'd go to this concert any day over marshmallow
What an awesome, superb performance. I play solo electric guitar and think I can understand how difficult and, over and above all, fantastic was Anoushka performance here. Lots of "legatos" running at high speed through all the sitar's neck and... with a deep feel of musicality ! Almost unbelievable !
To all my universal compatriots...this is India with noble heart welcoming pure hearted induviduals to share devine beauty...feelings and live harmoniously as one nation....one world.....achieve pure peace..tranquillity...pure joy live for ever. P.p.naik
The late composer John Cage once asked a sitar woman teacher in NY what was the purpose of music? She relied"the purpose of music is to quiet the mind in order to render it susceptible to divine influence."
All activity in Hindu culture is aimed at the same. i.e. is to quiten the mind. We dont bow down to Alexander the great, the one who ruled world but we bow down to the person who has conquered his mind and has complete control over the self.
Mesmerizing with honey like sweet melody. Ms. Anouska Shankar's Sitar play brings limitless joy in me. Thanks to the Circle of Sound team and Pablo Fiasco for sharing.
Two amzing things in this piece: 1: Around 6:01 - all strings are striked...and in the whole music, whenever this change happen, it either indicates change of rhythm as of change of para of any song or change in pace or any other form. 2: listen to the music after strike at 6:04 a specific misic repeats itself and the recond time it is occurs is a bit deeper bass as compared to the 1st time. As if someone is singing first from the throat and then someone got deeper and started singinf from the belly! Grateful to get the chance to listen to it! Carrying her father's legacy and in the process of completing his efforts in bringing wetern and eastern music together....!!
Your music is stirring distant pleasant memories from childhood...which suddenly surface from the deep ocean of memories...and leave me so peaceful and calm..like a mother's hug on a sunny morning..a mother who has long gone...than you Anoushka
This is such a soulful and captivating composition in Raag Durga . Anoushka's Sitar sound resonates and reverberates. A rare quality which every sitarist doesn't have. Loved listening to it. It has a mesmerising rhythm which lulls one .Beautiful ,wah kya baat hai.
I ve never heard a so deeply commucating vibration it is round and large it is sometimes written with dignity it is something of a real piety some passages are deep some are court others are alternative questions...i feel relax and i emerge from what i am from where i go like a great stability unto this world and one another land. so deep zen
Rakesh Krishnan - thank you so much. I was just thinking, that raga sounds familiar ! And it is Durga! This is a lovely demonstration of the difference between the Carnatic raga Suddha Saveri, which has the same Arohana and Avarohana. But Suddha Saveri emphasizes the notes Ri and Dha, which are stronger and slightly jarring, whereas Duurga emphasizes Ma which makes it sweeter (this is subjective, of course!)
@@rajanjamwal3019 - it is not an 'opinion', she IS playing Raga Durga, which is a pentatonic Raga in both Carnatic and Hindustani music, with notes Sa Suddha Ri Suddha Ma Pa Suddha Dha.
Her playing is so crisp that someone from the Indian subcontinent would almost find the sitar sound a bit Americanized! Mighty fingers running across that finely crafted stem. Her notes are extremely resonant. Extremely pleasant to the ears.
Anoushka Shankar you are my pillar for Classical Music!! Never understood it better !! Appreciate from Deep of my Heart ❤️ The way you touch the Soul by Sitar😍😍😍 Mesmerising ❣️

12:20 was the part when i got shivers, it sounded absolutely amazing and brilliantly played by soumik dutta and anoushka shankar
Raga Durga beautifully rendered by Anoushka Shankar ji, Soumik ji and team. Pt. Ravi Shankar ji is enjoying and blessing from up above 🙏🙏
