- TI made a challenge to recreate the Legendary solar eclipse photo using the cheapest lens I could find on amazon. An $80 420-800mm lens, and I could not be more shocked at how amazing these results were.

(for anyone who made it this far into the description I also go by Jason)
I love this video idea! It's not all about the gear. I also shot the eclipse on a super low budget, and I bought a $90 Celestron telescope, mounted my phone to it, and used a manual camera app for shooting. It performed way better than I was expecting, and while the images I got aren't amazing, they're good enough for me, and I'm just glad I was able to capture it without having to spend a bunch of money.
It's definitely not! Specially for such a rare occasion. I already never touch my 70-200 let alone need even more telephoto than that! Glad we got we were to capture great results with such little gear!
It's inspiring to see how much fun you had while still producing such incredible shots with just a $100 lens. so amazing 😍🤩
Thanks so much really was an awesome time!
Look maa! I'm in the video! lol... Hey Jason, it was awesome meeting you on eclipse day. Loved the video and the whole process. Sub'd!
Hey man! Likewise! Such an awesome experience to share with everyone! Feel free to reach out to me on IG too!
I love watching your channel grow. Just a few days ago you were at 2k and now you're almost to 3. Your content is infectious. As a filmmaker who looks for content specifically like this I am glad you've popped up. If you ever need a RED to shoot on let me know!
Thanks man! I know things are moving fast! That also sounds awesome! Where about are you around?!
awesome to see you continue to grow, keep at it man you’ve got something special!
Appreciate it!
Awesome bro
Those were great!
Unexpectedly amazing results! Tbh I thought it would of flared up beyond recovering, but turned out way better than I thought!
You were fortunate in that the cloud cover was thin *and* not detailed. I ended up in Caistorville after abandoning St. Catharines and driving west, looking for a sufficiently clear spot in the clouds. I got some nice shots with a PanaLeica 100-400mm zoom on a G9 (handheld, due to last second tripod issues, but the lens/body IS combo saved the day), but I couldn't capture the finer corona details due to them being a bit swamped out by cloud noise.
Interesting to see that if I only were concerned with the eclipse, I could have saved $$$ with this lens vs. the PL - but this is the one use case it's suited for, really.
The clouds were pretty thick at points. Got very lucky that it thinned out during the eclipse! Was fairly gray leading up to it!
That tripod is a real bummer though glad you still manage to get some shots. The PL is a great wild life though I'd assume?!
Damn the quality of these videos are INSANE, def just subbed! Fun and well made video!!!
Thanks man! Means alot!
Totally loving your channel! New subscriber here, keep it up!
I got the same lens from AliExpress for about 40 euro's... Great to figure out if such a focal length is something you want to invest in!
The more I look into this lens the more I realize, even I overpaid 😂
Your contact is amazing keep it up man
Thank you! Many ideas are brewing. Just can't wait for the better weather!
You can sleep on a hammock!?😄 Awesome pictures of the eclipse!!!
Takes up less space than a bed 😜
I got to take pictures of the 2017 eclipse out here on the West Coast and it was literally one of the most magical things ever! I love it when humans just kinda stop what we’re doing and all enjoy a one time celestial event like this! 🥹
Very wholesome moment!
So cool, I used the canon rf600 f11
I didn't even know that was a lens. Looks pretty slick!
youre awesome
Noice!
the extending looks like one of those waterguns😂
That's the perfect comparison of what the pump feeling is 😂
I'm surprised they didn't send you a lens mug lol
I don't think anyone would even come close to recognizing their brand
If you know, what you're doing ...🙂. Nice job !!!
The prep work and research was well worth it!
