When Elvis sang a song, even if someone else recorded it first, after Elvis sang it, he owned it. Examples are I Just Can’t Help Believing, Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Always On My Mind, Let It Be Me, My Way, etc.

Charlie Hodge harmonized & played guitar w-him, gave him the scarfs - & water & gatorade - when he was on stage.

this is my favour Elvis song ever (live version on stage from TTWII) but I love this rehearsal also. The guy that was singing harmony with him was Charlie Hodge who he met in the army and asked him to work with him when they both left.

Really interesting reaction, I had never seen this footage before although I've seen others from obviously the same rehearsal. I played in bands for so many years and this totally Rings true man. Yeah he had his good friend and guitar player Scotty come up there and sing some backing vocals cuz he felt like Scotty probably knew the arrangement better than he did at that point. But then near the end, how many times have I been there? It's like once the final chorus ends how do you get from there to maybe a four-bar outro and ending that you have rehearsed and you know but there's that missing piece in between and so Elvis decided hey it should be four bars and he held his fingers up and counted them off 1 2 3 4 and then they executed the ending they had rehearsed and boom they're done. It's so fascinating to see someone who was so good with such a great band do all the Dynamics behind the scenes that I've done in all the good bands I've been in on just a pee on level. That's what I love about music and that's what I love about being in bands. That camaraderie and just reading each other's minds and sometimes arguing but then that sense of satisfaction and joy and everything clicks is just phenomenal. It's so fun

Great content. But am I crazy or is some of these rehearsals better in some ways than the on stage versions of these songs? Maybe it's because they're more relaxed and I think sometimes you do play and sing better when your more relaxed. Thanks for the upload.
