I don't know anyone who purchased a set of clubs and said I can't stand the way these look, but they play well, so I will buy them. They have to have both.
Looks not important to me! If looks were that important would Ping have sold so many! All I care about is how they play when I hit them. Only thing aesthetically I don’t like is the colour. Though it looks smart out the box, could soon wear and look tatty. So I take your point there! Dreaded iron covers needed! Lol
Looks play a part in confidence. And since the most important distance in golf is the 6” between your ears, it matters. Also, with the economy the way it is, regular Joes are not shelling out $1k for a set of clubs, no matter how they look/perform.
So how did Ping sell so many ugly irons? Looks aren’t important to everyone! Cleveland VAS ugly iron, very successful! I take out a few sets and what works for me wins! It baffles me that people buy drivers with the looks of the bottom of the club! It’s rarely seen! In the bag it has a head cover on and you can’t see it at address 😂 so you’d turn down clubs you hit well but don’t like the looks of in favour of something pretty you don’t hit so well?
I already own the Cobra Rad Speeds and I'm considering ordering the Dark Speeds. If I do, I will most definitely make a comparison video. They will be the exact same set ups. MMT Shafts, Up 1 degree , etc.
If you know you hit the 5 iron 200 yards then when you are 200 yards from the green you. hit the 5 iron. What other 5 irons have done in the past doesn't matter. It's all about knowing your equipment.
I used to have the Cleveland CG16s in the black pearl...I know, I know, many people thought they looked ugly, but the black still looked great to me after a many years use.
I hit these tonight and ended up purchasing them. 20 yards longer per club than my current set (p-790s). Forgiving. Beautiful finish. Great sound and feel off the clubface. Will the finish fade? Probably. But the performance was eye opening. I am 55 years old, and have lost some distance over time. These take me back to distances per club from 20 years ago. Sold.
I’ve just tested everything over the past week or two (new golfer 6 months in). Tried the mizuno 923 HM, the high launch and even the 245. Ping, callaway and the works. As a newer golfer with reasonable speed I found the cobra everything I want them to be. Tight dispersion with good carry when you don’t flush it. And as a new golfer I rarely flush it. For me these do exactly what I need them to do. They forgive the bad ones, not necessarily for dispersion (which is great) but for distance. 7 iron Toe= fine I’ll go 170 just a little off line, 7 iron low I’ll go 160 but roll out to 180. As lesser golfers our bad shots aren’t always good strikes off line they’re more likely to be bad strikes and distance helps massively. Just my opinion
I’ve had two sets of black finish clubs. I’m currently gaming the black Callaway Apex 19. Everyone who has ever had black clubs knows they won’t look pristine, even after minimal use. If you buy black clubs, you just have to accept that. But they still look good from a distance, and nobody, including the owner, is going to be looking at these clubs that closely - especially if they perform.
Plenty of YT on line how to restore the color. Maybe a plating shop has options or ask the manufacturer to refurbish the clubs. Ping offer refurbishing very cheaply. ?
Went for a fitting and tried these and thought they were great. Looked and felt better than the Taylormade QIs, Titleist 350s, Ping G430s and the Callaway AI Smokes that the guy was clearly desperate to sell me (I walked out in the end). You always get the 7 irons to test in a fitting but I'd try to request 5 irons also, as that would be the test of how easy the set really is to hit.
It’s funny, I just did the same thing. Picked these over the ping g430s. I had to. Never in a million years did I think I would do that, but the numbers didn’t lie. Yes, the set is 1-1.5° flatter at each club, but that did not affect my launch angle or average height.
Two different guys in my regular group play the black Ping 710s. I know what they look like in their bag from 8 feet away, but I have no idea if the color has worn off the face, or anywhere else. Point being, other than being vaguely aware of what they're gaming, I don't really examine the clubs of my playing partners. Come to think of it, I only really look at my own irons when I'm pulling one out of the bag, when addressing the ball, and then quickly cleaning with a damp towel after my shot. Other than that, I don't know whether they look worn or not.
I have black Cobra t-rail irons and they are black. A year later after using them probably 60-80 times, they are definitely not so black now! lol I am not really keen on buying new irons as there just doesn't feel like there's that much of a difference year over year with irons. Better off buying a couple years older irons that are still in really good shape.
Nice review, Alex! I wonder though if it might be a good idea to have one of your students (the target market for these) to have them hit these and see how it works (or not)?
Dang, just looked at the lofts and no wonder distances are jacked. Too bad the durability of the finish is sub-par, might pick them up at the end of season for half the price. Great review!
I have soft iron covers on mine to stop club banging in the bag. My 17 year old irons still look great due to that and I am like you and I care for them. They cost me $900.00 AUD all those years ago and the was a fortune to me.
I was just fitted yesterday and tried TaylorMade QI and mizuno jpx923. Dark speed not only left them far behind on the range, there were also much more accurate and forgiving. Anyone who talks bad about these irons doesn’t know much about golf
The club is terrific. My guess is that colors not an issue. I think that is overplayed on this video and most people do not hit the ball hard enough to get that unexpected flyer
Cleveland vas and ping eye 2 sold great! Looked ugly and performed so they sold. The strange thing here is these clubs are very good looking and way better looking than those too. Again, don't know why looks are being talked about here on this club
If I could hit a 200 yd. 7 iron the heads could be faded pink. I have noticed looks are very important to the UK reviewers. No judgement. With what they want for a set of irons all expectations should be high from the irons.
I really want to buy a 52° Equalizer Wedge & game with it on the short par 3 course by my place. I can already think of multi holes it would be prefect on, including the first, which would be a great confidence boost to the start of the game
Don’t know how these will hold up but I gamed some old Mizunos in a gun metal grey that held were preowned when I bought them and the color held up fine just the plastic backings broke after a while.
Just give me brushed metal irons with no plastic inserts. And make them as consistent and forgiving as possible. And no 150 yard pitching wedges. I just know there will be gapping problems somewhere. I just don’t get it. 🤷♂️
Coloured irons with a big plastic insert in the back….these things will look 10 years old in 10 months. Buying new will be like setting fire to £50’s.😏
Do you know how many reviewers these clubs have been shipped around to? It would be interesting to see how many people and how many balls they hit while reviewing. Its possible that compared to the average weekend player, those clubs may have 3 or 4 years worth of play on them already
Love all your YT content Alex. I would point out that these irons will definitely be designed for beginners who will hit them closer to your gamer irons no doubt. With your skills of course you will bomb them as the lofts will be very strong.
If you are a brand ambassador for Cobra I'd say you didn't do them any favours. Whining on about looks is so irritating. For me performance trumps looks all day
Just been fitted today and purchased these! They were smoking all other brands within that price range! I think there are better looking irons out there but performance wise they are unreal!
I’ve gone 6-GW and then 5 hybrid, 3 wood driver. Works perfectly for me. Pick them up this weekend and can’t wait. Get about 195-205 from the hybrid when I hit it well so should be perfect.
They performed well, so surely that’s what the buyers want? Also buyers of these clubs are unlikely to have long irons, and i include 5 iron, they will use hybrids, also gapping becomes and issue for slower swing speeds with the long irons. The distances with 6-GW was great, and would still be long for slower swing speeds, forgiveness across the face, also a good thing. Your gapping 6-GW was mad, but it wouldn’t be with slower swing speeds. Your review has value, but swing it slower with these irons, or get one of your lesson clients to hit them.
I like how you’re insinuating they’re for seniors who use hybrids. They’re for anyone who wants to improve their game and are not a low handicap. My swing speed for my 7 iron averaged around 90mph. That’s not exactly slow or ridiculous fast.
Play with whatever you want. We didn't used to have cavity backs. We didn't have the choices you have now. Even most of the pros play with at least a players cavity. Are you better than a pro? Having said that again play with whatever you want to play with.
Ive give them a go and they send missiles, they did look mint but were brand new, if i i bought them dont think id be that bothered about if their looks faded.
Looka ARE important, to me at least. I guess theyd bevhard to keep fresh and would look tired after a season of golf. Disappointing, as the performance looks good
They already look as worn as my 8 year old Ping’s and I play and practice every week! Also, the cheap and nasty plastic badge on the back is unforgivably ugly. I’m not in the market for these type of clubs but they nonetheless damage the brand in my eyes.
out of all the irons that came put this year and in the last year the dark speed irons are the ugliest clubs for me, the paradym irons are worse though (not the ai smokes)
I love black clubs and I own a one length Cobra forged black PW and the black one length SW and even though they have worn, I think they still look good. But the strong lofts of modern irons I hate, bring back some more traditional lofts in game improvement clubs.
*Am I being harsh? Should the performance out way everything I have said here?*
Nope. Looks has a lot to do with the player using them.
Mid to high handicap golfers simply want to see mid to high handicap golfers using these irons during these reviews.
I agree. Ain't no way I'm hitting an 8i 190 yards, no matter how juiced & forgiving the club is
I’m off 20 and they are lovely and easy to hit high. Colour is fine btw
@@andybarton234do you think a 30 hcp can buy these
I already own the Cobra Rad Speeds and I'm considering ordering the Dark Speeds. If I do, I will most definitely make a comparison video. They will be the exact same set ups. MMT Shafts, Up 1 degree , etc.

Alex, those worn out range balls have more to do with the distance inconsistencies than anything else mate
agreed. Plus the occasional flyers might be because a lot of players occasionally hit it perfectly flush (me)
Agree. Worthless video from a performance standpoint. Why even bother. The ball he zoomed in on had almost smooth dimples. Use decent balls, Alex.
I used to have the Cleveland CG16s in the black pearl...I know, I know, many people thought they looked ugly, but the black still looked great to me after a many years use.

I don’t blame you, they are a beauty
I think your comment just made my mind up. I’m going to try them out.
Has the finish or look worn away yet?
Here I sit year 2 of P790s and trying to replace them. I let you know soon if the Cobras where a good switch.

Just got fitted. It was between thesr and the ping g430s. For me these cobras were perfect for my shot shape. Brilliant forgiveness , feel and sound
Has the finish or look worn away yet?

What do these and other distance irons show for those who are slower speed and less consistent? 15-20 yard gaps is crazy
I have soft iron covers on mine to stop club banging in the bag. My 17 year old irons still look great due to that and I am like you and I care for them. They cost me $900.00 AUD all those years ago and the was a fortune to me.

How did they compare for size?
Anyone who choses these hideous bats over a Mizuno knows nothing about golf…. Gigantic spoons 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Are the lofts not just crazy low? Which makes them go that long?
The club is terrific. My guess is that colors not an issue. I think that is overplayed on this video and most people do not hit the ball hard enough to get that unexpected flyer

Try Hogans, they are the classic irons. Try the EX
I really want to buy a 52° Equalizer Wedge & game with it on the short par 3 course by my place. I can already think of multi holes it would be prefect on, including the first, which would be a great confidence boost to the start of the game
How do they perform? Looks get you there! Performance sells it! For me I like the satin finish or the Ping G425 finish.
that’s true, and yes i agree!
How strongly lofted are these irons?!? Like, 175 9 iron?
27 degree 7 iron, thus the distance.
Yeah
Dude, the lofts are a CLUB AND HALF lower than even distance irons 2-4 degrees less loft than takomo 101
Every brand I've ever had fades in the hitting area and gets scratches. Callaway, Taylor Made, Ben Hogan, etc... Seen it happen on every one.
That is one reason I won’t go for black finish clubs- the colour fades in time and they look old before they should
If you eat to sell the 6,7,8,9, PW& G. How much ?
Has there ever been a coloured iron that didn’t look like crap after a couple of weeks?
I agree maybe just stay away from the colour
Don’t know how these will hold up but I gamed some old Mizunos in a gun metal grey that held were preowned when I bought them and the color held up fine just the plastic backings broke after a while.

Haha yeah i know what you mean
Same with 770 phantom irons. They look awesome brand new. They look like worn out crap after 2 months of playing them. Some sooner if you play a lot
What launch monitor do you use ? Love this video!
Thanks, full swing !
I was going to buy aylorade Stealth based on reviews, but the 5 iron feels flimsy to me, made me look at P-790s and Darkspeed
Coloured irons with a big plastic insert in the back….these things will look 10 years old in 10 months. Buying new will be like setting fire to £50’s.😏
Another great video. I love all of Cobras clubs. Thank for the review.

Good job i’m not a cobra ambassador then 😂😂
Just shows that this is an impartial review😊
Just been fitted today and purchased these! They were smoking all other brands within that price range!

The colour is great, it's the finishes that are the problem
It matters. You are paying 1200+ for irons, that is an investment. Resale value will be horrible.
Many are trying and liking these irons. Maybe we should just go 7-G in the bag?
I’ve gone 6-GW and then 5 hybrid, 3 wood driver. Works perfectly for me. Pick them up this weekend and can’t wait. Get about 195-205 from the hybrid when I hit it well so should be perfect.
A 20+ yard gap between irons is wild bro. Im not sure id like that, not matter how far i hit the club😂
Ridiculous how strong-lofted clubs are today. The 7 looked like an old money 5. The 5 looked like an old money 3.
Shoulda went black looks gr8 covers damage from use

My 7 iron ball speed is 120-125 and I’ve just bought these after testing everything. 6-GW as the 6 is basically a 5 anyway 😂😂

not a bodybuilding show- its a powerlifting show.. one for looks, one for, lets see what you got.

Tom Holland's Cobra Review!
Your worrying about the color lol with those pants on , lol cmon man 😅😂
They already look as worn as my 8 year old Ping’s and I play and practice every week! Also, the cheap and nasty plastic badge on the back is unforgivably ugly. I’m not in the market for these type of clubs but they nonetheless damage the brand in my eyes.
Great review
You hit balls with steel not with plastic
Hitting beat up range balls
Am i missing something here? He hits them straight and further. He is amazed at the results but thinks they are going to lose there colour to soon 😅😅😅
Yeah that’s right
out of all the irons that came put this year and in the last year the dark speed irons are the ugliest clubs for me, the paradym irons are worse though (not the ai smokes)
I usually get a flyer because i actually hit the the ball properly.😂
Ahhh, I thought my TV broke!
What do you mean sorry?
1:54 screen goes black for 2 seconds. 😂
@@dropkickdrones4569 Oh how weird! Haha not surprised you thought it was broke!!
Buy last years model at a knock down price?
Good point!
Noone should buy cobra clubs and anyone owning stock in cobra should sell immediately
So...get head covers for them if you game them!!
mfw the color is the reason i bought them

Shut the front door just because you don’t like the color. That’s all rants about the dam color.
Haha i think it’s a huge thing! Fair enough if you don’t 🤣
who cares about the color lmao
I chose the Cleveland halo xl over these,,, I get more control and forgiveness from them...
