It's homy!

    I find your videos so inspiring! I’m a late comer to piano; I started when I was 40, twenty seven years ago. I’m still trying!

      Me too mate! Started around the same age and I’m 70 in a month. Finally found a teacher who works for me. He’s inspiring indeed and I’m incredibly grateful. Loving this journey, my playing is really improving and that’s all I could have asked for. Z

    Many thanks Tony, and also to the bass player. I'm going to wear this video out... you've crammed it with all I need. I'm really grateful. So interesting and full of helpful ideas.

    Love this! Too much good stuff on this amazing site, I keep getting distracted while studying the specific tune I’m studying every time you put up something new- basically all the time! Not complaining, just another comment to relate how much I’m getting out of my Patreon subscription. More than worth every penny for those wondering whether to join.

    Excepcional !!!! Genius !!! Only half a day, and you clarify all doubts, and you showed things that are very difficult to hear.... that nuance part A, Cminor to Cmaj is beautiful... and the same at end, Gm, to G alt is something.
    Thank you so much Tony !! Great job. Greetings from Brazil !!
    ....
    Now I have to come back to earth and try to improvise over WAVE... that's big challenge.

    Thanks Tony, I've watched every video so far and I have to say that your way of breaking down the standards is so refreshing and nice to follow. I tried many channels over years and yours definitely the one I'm gonna stick with.
    How about doing Devil May Care someday?
    Keep it going! Greetings from Germany :)

    I would be amazing if you was able to do a special video about Jazz improvisation with specific scales. Something like how to improvise with scales during a long time ( like a jazz bar man ). Thanks !

    Uaw , great !!!
    I was distracted , still digesting the beautifull prhases and already crazy chords of the theme (stolen moments), when suddenly I saw your hands crossed, and there was a magic bass player, and crazy chords, altered, no real altered, no actually minor 69, no negative harmony, chromatic changes, no this, no that.... Uaw !!!!!
    I thought "where do I am ?? ".
    It is too much for me...
    The sequences of chords at the repetitive final prhase is already unclear to me...
    The Blues part is the Blues part... deserves another video.
    Thank you anyway !!!
    it's too much concentrated information.
    Beautifull song !
    I 'll be more than happy if I can play single notes melody + chords that reminds this song.

    @ 4.04 here , the the last beat of the F-6 becomes Fmi sus6 (Db9 3rd in root) ,before returning to Cmi7 .( when i checked with the record)
    (or Dbsus9 with the third in the root)

    • @TonyWinston
      @TonyWinston  7 місяців тому

      I'll check that out. A Db chord might be right but if the bass hits G then it's got to be some kind of altered G7 chord

    At 21:38 do you start with D minor (with the fourth and the seventh) and go up an half step to D# min , then to E min?
    What scale do you use with the right hand?
    Thank you.

    • @TonyWinston
      @TonyWinston  6 років тому

      Marco Pepe good question, I wasn't thinking about my right hand at that point .. Just playing notes I heard in my head I guess. Seems like c minor pentatonic .

    • @marcopepe4046
      @marcopepe4046 6 років тому

      Then, when you go up to E 21:40 (with the fourth and the seventh) with the left hand and C min pentatonic (or C blues perhaps) with the right hand, harmonically (D would be minor 7th, but D# would be maj 7th; then F would be minor 2nd, etc...) what sound did you get? What's the chord to consider?

    Annoys me when you play with a bass player and use rootless voicings and they decide theyre never gonna use the root on beat 1 when walking

    • @TonyWinston
      @TonyWinston  6 років тому +2

      nezkeys79 I agree with you for the most part. Tritone substitutions are ok and chords that last 2 bars or more are places where the bass can be more adventurous.

    • @nezkeys79
      @nezkeys79 6 років тому +1

      Tony Winston absolutely. I dont mind it here and there so long as the root is actually played. Some players just take a liberty and play a walking line without the root anywhere in sight, or play whatever they want over slash chords that are two beats per bar or even on all 4 beats....nope
