Never seen main bearings that massive before... I've also never seen such an intricate casting...the block isnt as thick as it seems, its sort of girdled out in places. Whoa...
Great, i read the posts below, and you are so lucky, congrulatulations. There are some possible ask you a manual with the sizes and materials of the parts? I want to try build this engine. Thanks!
How much power could they have gotten out of that monster, if they had increased the compression ratios as much as they could with a reliable source of 150 Octane gasoline. The RR Merlin put out about the same power but was a smaller engine and would have choked on low grade Axis fuel. I'm told you could run the DB605 on regular old 87 Octane Unleaded.
This "AS" engine was approved for 1850 DIN-PS (+ -2.5%) with B4 (87 octane) and MW-50 at 1.8 ata boost pressure. Max. 2000 DIN-PS at 1.98 ata boost pressure with C3 (95 octane) and MW-50 for a maximum of 5 minutes.
DB 605 with 150 octane fuel would make a Merlin engine look like it was on training wheels. The allies targeting german synthetic fuel facilities was probably the smartest move in history. Because Any German fighter with 150 octane and it would have been clapping p51s and spitfires cheeks daily. No one brings this up because the brits want everyone to think the Merlin v12 was the best thing since sliced bread.
@@Bf-GAS Funny the power to weight rating even at 1000KW, is higher than the certified engines today. Most engines today are around 1kw/kg, where as this is from 1.6-2KW/kg. Current aviation engines are so far behind. Not sure why so many are still air cooled. USA took over after the war and then engineering took a step backwards.
You don't increase the CR to increase power on these engines, it already had a higher static CR than a Merlin, what you are able to do with higher octane fuel is it allows you to increase the boost pressure.
Where is the oil sump in this engine? Is it external to the block? Also, how do they prevent oil from seeping into the combustion chambers with the pistons at the bottom?
Very Impressive videos !! I would like to see how the roller bearings are assembled in the connecting rods and crankshaft. What kind of bearings have the crank on the side of the piston pin? roller bearing or plain bearing ? Thank you for sharing this beauty with people that love engines and Bf-109
I was reading a technical analysis made by some US engineers on a captured DB601-A, and they were surprised they were using roller bearings for the big end. They thought it might be because the engine would be required to provide takeoff power on short notice, i.e. with cold lubricants etc. Did the -605 have cold operating power restrictions because of the lack of roller bearings?
I actually saw 3 cars with a Spitfire engine.Which is bigger than this engine. So I don't see why this engine could not fit in a big car.I mainly see Mercedes or BMW to make good strong frames for that engine.
you restore personal Messerschmitt Bf.109 ? all original parts ? you bought Messerschmitt Bf.109 ? how much ? how much is this working Messerschmitt Bf.109 ?
what price can have on the BF 109 workers of the original engine ? and himself an original plane you also have bf-109 ? I've watched videos on UA-cam and just wondering where the original aircraft Messerschmitt Bf.109 and engine original and take such planes Messerschmitt Bf.109 original in a private collection ?
You can tell where to get information about a dynamo electric generator which start the engine bf-109 ? I myself can not find sites about this ? a video can have or drawings with photos ?

No, I own modern AMG vehicles ..... the engine is too big and too heavy, it does not fit in a car. In addition, such an engine is too rare, you do not do something like that
I see. Thanks for your explanation. Well, the sound of Bf-109 is so amazing.
Hmm wouldn't want you working on my engine, especially aircraft engine, after seeing how you undo and replace the Big End cap. Ever been told about undoing and retightening evenly?
We have such a DB 605 in our garage. No joke. Greetings from Linz Austria 🇦🇹 Europe.
👍👍 welche Baureihe "A" Zustand ?
Has anyone noticed the casting work on the block, just brilliant.
I sure did...its not as thick as it appears
The wonder of UA-cam, its like sitting in my dads workshop watching him. Great vid.
The Big end looks to be a similar diameter to the main bearings. Wish you have a complete rebuild video. Even if you sold a DVD.
The masterpiece of aero-engines!
Not as good as a Napier Sabre!
@@somebloke13 That engine was a beast, but keep in mind that it had to power planes that weighted almost twice as the 109

Была у 605 проблема , которую не решили до конца войны. Иногда происходило самовозгорание.
It is like a 1500 hp wristwatch!
Am I seeing 3 connecting rods per crank journal? These were V12 engines, right? Just trying to understand the block configuration.
I believe they are 2, 1 is connected only on the inner part, the second connection rod on outer parts. Called "fork and blade" i think.

It is so the two bank are directly opposite each other. No staggered cylinders, a little more compact, less flex on crank and complex, because German.

The oil sump is the valve cover, where the oil is pumped back into the circuit.
Oil runs around the liner and is drained into the valve covers
