I've watched Minamata....more than once.....and what a film so beautifully delivered...I cried as much the first time watching, as watching it again. The choice to NOT add subtitles was brilliant, as the emotion of those speaking Japanese was felt so deeply that as the viewer, understanding the words was not important. The emotion and impact of the feelings portrayed delivered such impact. I loved the film...and grateful for the work Gene ( and Eileen)did to expose the truth with the help of the community affected.

After watching the body language experts, I noticed that he is rocking a little while talking about being in the Colosseum. That's a self soothing behavior you can tell it really got to him. You'll see people with autism rocking a lot for no particular reason (actually sensory processing issues), but for him to only do it when talking about something stressful. My heart goes out to him.

And you are right when you say that it's very common for neurodivergent people to use self soothing behaviours to calm ourselves. I'll find myself doing that whenever my social anxiety kicks in, & I start feeling shy, or nervous, though for me it's usually playing around with whatever jewellery I'm wearing at the time.

I've watched Minamata....more than once.....and what a film so beautifully delivered...I cried as much the first time watching, as watching it again. The choice to NOT add subtitles was brilliant, as the emotion of those speaking Japanese was felt so deeply that as the viewer, understanding the words was not important. The emotion and impact of the feelings portrayed delivered such impact. I loved the film...and grateful for the work Gene ( and Eileen)did to expose the truth with the help of the community affected.
I can see in JD deep sorrow. I pray for him. I think one lesson he has learned is the media will turn it's back on you if whatever the narrative going around requires them to. After watching the body language experts, I noticed that he is rocking a little while talking about being in the Colosseum. That's a self soothing behavior you can tell it really got to him.
You'll see people with autism rocking a lot for no particular reason (actually sensory processing issues), but for him to only do it when talking about something stressful. My heart goes out to him.

And you are right when you say that it's very common for neurodivergent people to use self soothing behaviours to calm ourselves. I'll find myself doing that whenever my social anxiety kicks in, & I start feeling shy, or nervous, though for me it's usually playing around with whatever jewellery I'm wearing at the time.
