Usually any UPSC aspirant and NEET aspirants takes notes for longer hours. It eventually gets over heated if proper notes is taken for longer hours which defeats the purpose of note taking. All Mseries chip ipads have similar issues. I myself stopped using my m2 air 11 inch and switched to my old 6th gen ipad it hardly heats up.

I faced similar issues and after the update to ios 18 the heating issues have reduced a bit but it still gets hot. I use Collanote and I have three note files which I use daily and write in and I noticed one of the files when I open that and write in that my ipad heats a lot on the right side of the ipad( half of the ipad on the right side of camera) but when I use the other note file it doesn't heat up at all. Although I have already reported it to apple care and they assured that it's not a big deal untill it gives the heating alarm I can use the ipad. But it is very uncomfortable for me to keep writing when ipad heats. The fast battery drain is still an issue that i feel shouldn't happen.

Currently I’m using IOS 18 . I have this same issue with my iPad Air 5. While using apple notes app my iPad start heating up on right side of it and start battery draining in 1min or less the battery drain 1% . While using notability app the battery uses is 1% in 12 min of use. I have talked with apple they simply run a diagnostic online and said that there is no hardware or software issue . This is my 2 nd iPad the 1st one is having the same issues. In apple community also people have addressed this same issue since many year ago still people are facing the same issue. So I request to everyone talk to apple support and tell them the issue by giving such example because it’s a serious issue.

Go for 10th gen. And save your money (but base variant of 10th gen has only 64gb which is good enough for note taking) Don't buy 9th gen because it doesn't has type C. Type C is necessary for expanding storage like using pendrive or SSD. I used 9th gen for almost 2 years. Now using Air m2.

Bro i'm using ipad air m2 13" even after the update the overheating issue is not solved in 13 inch i can hardly take only 5 min of notes without any problem after 15 minutes the temperature reaches around 40°c after 30 minutes u cant even use the notes it starts lagging you can't even write and you can't use gestures,I download 18.1 beta 4(i don't recommend anyone to update) after the update heating solved about 80% and battery i can take notes while my ipad is a bit warm,If you are planning to buy iPad air m2 13 inches you better wait for ipados18.1 stable update and based on that you can decide,but on current update ie;ipados 18 you can't take notes but you can do any kind of heavy tasks it can handle without overheating, Hoping that 18.1 Update fixes this issue

if you absolutely need higher storage at 45k iPad Air M1 makes sense
but if M2 is available at 50-52k in sale then you can skip M1 and go with M2

As, the temperature didn't went above 40, so its just normal warm. Above 44 degrees is a sign of true overheating .
