I LOVE EVERYONE GIVING THEIR 2 CENTS IN 30 YEARS OF OWNING AND RUNNING MANY DIFFERENT SIZE BOATS YOU DONT KNOW REALLY WHATS GOING ON UNLESS YOUR THERE! YOU MADE IT BACK TO PORT SAFE IN MY BOOK THATS A JOB WELL DONE ! MOST OF THE PEOPLE MAKING THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS I BET NEVER EVEN OWNED A BOAT OR SKIPPERED ONE . I ENJOY WATCHING THESE VIDEOS THANKS .
There is something very therapeutic about (vicariously) sitting in the cockpit with you as you steam through the ocean. I feel your pain as you hit every big swell, and (strangely) wish I was there! Ha ha! Thanks for the video! 🙂
After seeing this video I don't know how many times....it's still awesome to watch! "Hold on!--Splash---****!" Had to been rough but at least you got it on video. I wish I could have a boat like this.
With 50 years on the Great Lakes, on a 118' yacht, a 700 ore carrier, and other size vessels and yachts, I would agree that is a tough sea. Also, they are "confused" seas, not nicely on the bow. I am surprised the skipper did not change course to bow on for the bigger seas, though. Great video for sure...but four years old now (2017). Plus he running "slow". That hull loves to run the seas!
Now I don't have to post what I was going to. LOL Sometimes you don't get to go the direction you want to go, even in a sportfish. At least quarter the seas for a while, then swap quarters until you get to where you're going or the seas calm down. Inexperienced capt.
I have a Bertram 31 in the SF Bay. Those are "rough" seas that appear to be exacerbated by coming out of the ship channel and heading south across the South Bar. If you're ever in the Bay Area again, you'll have a nicer ride heading all the way out to the end of the ship channel and then heading south. Uncomfortable, but never in doubt in a Bertram!
Those Bertram 35 are working horse in those seas!! We that kind of seas mostly the entire year here in Aruba. I would have put some more speed to it for a better ride.
Lot's of keyboard captains on here commenting not knowing the circumstances. Here in Donegal we don;t call that rough, more uncomfortable. At times it's better to give it some wellie and keep her head up, but only if you are in the position to do so. We once put a leg out in a much heavier Northwesterly and we were only making 7-8knts in our Cyfish 33, not pleasant but she tooks us to dafety. This captain had to work with what he had and he took it nice and handy for that reason. Awesome boats those Bertrams!
Seems to me he could lick it up a bit and have a nicer ride! Bert 33 true sportfish owner here, Love Bert's especially the older ones, I own a 77 model 33 SF and a 69 offshore hull early Bert's have been my favorite for many years. Reliable always and always maintained well. Lol cannot afford New ones!
What time of the year did you do the trek? I am looking at a 37 Bertram in Wa and would need to move it to Huntington Beach...and fuck the nah sayer's...those are some rough seas. Steep and short intervals! Good job!
That's "smooth" for that section of ocean. Sounds like 6-71's doing about 1100rpm. Should have tried getting up on plane. Bertrams deep V's are known for enjoying fast in rough.
The captain will never learn to run his boat if ya'll keyboard savior's keep reassuring his inability. He was running a Bert 35! EVERY Bertram owner cringed watching this. Yes I'm 5 years late, but then the You Tube algorithm gave me this late! lol
+trucking604 To all those who thought i was a pussy with the throttle... let me explain... The boat has triple nickle cummins. V555 and one cylinder had a hole in it but it ran good enough at a slower speed (under 2k RPMS) to get me home. I would of loved to romp on it right there but i had only known the boat less than a couple hours and i had a long way to go..(try that sometime) Nevertheless it made it all the way home and when i got there i replaced the sleeves on the stbd engine and replaced all the injectors on both engines and it has been purring like a kitten for over two years now and i go out every weekend. the engines now have 4000 hours on the hour meters but the one i did the inline is a little newer. I love this boat... very good mileage and safe.
Jeff you did everything exactly right here...you don't go blasting thru seas like this even if ur plants are in perfect condition...these people on here who say go fast don't know what they are talking about...doesn't matter how great ur boat is and the Bert 35 is one of if not the best out there...!! I am looking at one right now with 3208s in it though.
@@zheka69 A bit late but I'll back his (R Ski's) words, as I'm a Floridian that crosses the Gulf Stream to go to the Bahamas regularly. I wouldn't post a video like this with that thumb nail because I know every captain worth his salt would laugh me off the docks. Specially if I was running a Bertram 35!
ha!!!! you don't seen to know how to run that baby in a rough sea, no wonder you're going up & down because your doing what 1800rpm? you're supposed to be surfing in between those tiny waves on a 2200rpm run....
you call that heavy seas, god damm, thats calm sea with a BERTRAM, 1800rpm, 2500rpm is better, you surf, cruise & enjoy the ride, we chace & spear mahimahi in that such called heavy sea...

Nice old 35 there, solid boat... Sounds like 555's / Triple Nickels.

Bertrams handle so good

probably one of the best hulls ever mad, especially the older ones
what makes them so great just wondering, have heard that many times about the 31 and the 35
To bad the capt didn't use the hulls abilities, he let her wallow in the seas. Use some throttle next time.
Wondering how those Cummins 555 are doing?
Those are the seas that turn the minutes to hours..

Great video! definitely a rough ride!
Looks like moderate chop, not rough.

Nice. 3-4 (and an occasional 5); definitely a nice little chop.

+Tom Christman I commented below... The reason i was going slow.
Bet you didn't know there was so many profesional captains willing to tell you how to run your boat did you? Lol

why did it seem he's riding the side of the waves and not straight through them?
Just following a course on autopilot. If we were just cruising then head on would have been the best.
Having that anchor swing around like that is a really bad idea lol That’s just barely what we call “ nautical “ where I live.
What powerplants? Make, model, hp, etc?

I would be trolling a pink squid in that
Lol
Trip from Laud. to Bimini threw out a large ORANGE squid on an 80 about 50 ft back. Hooked & lost a large Blue.
We were following a course on autopilot.
When, did you hit heavy seas; that looks like a normal day around Wake
LOL BEEN THERE DONE THAT. 8:19
Anchor is loose and you have a bow line on a cleat....
Watch the lines
The old girl doesn’t sound good, and never ever leave your anchor swinging good way to sink the boat
Secure that anchor sailor!
Just checking my auto pilot.
i have been in seas like that in a parker 2520
My hero
If you think those are "heavy" seas you better not come play in our Florida Gulf Stream.
I'd love to see a video to back those words.

You did fine especially once you started cheating your course a little to get a better entry. Sometimes it’s just nasty out there.
I been in dis kind of sea in a 16 footer so dis size of boat shouldn't b having all dis problem

wow you are so cool... always one twat who has to prove he has a dick and comment on how calm the sea is compared to where he is from
Heavy seas?! I go out on a 27 searay in 6 foot waves and the ride is really rough, those are nothing...
you can not compare a bertram with a searay, Bertram is the top boat for rough wave
@@businessjc Ive been out on a Bertram, it was a 43
Ha, a 27 Sea Ray - you should stay at the docks!
@@roger9453 I know right, I upgraded to a buddy davis 47
@@roger9453 lol, yep just one rung higher than a bayliner. Lol
Drive in the ditch... This guy is trying to sink the boat for insurance
R SKI , BE HONEST YOU DON'T EVEN OWN A BOAT ! ! ! DO YOU ! ! !
LOL Sold the 38 Bert and now own a newer 46 Bertram.
