The last part they played is a tune called, "The Whore Among The Nettles Roaring" or it's often called"The Mangled Badger". It was written by a blind harpoonist.
Must be difficult being a blind harpoonist.

@@darrenfarrell-bn2cb Depends really. Once any kind of Irish trad group introduces bass and drums, it’s not really a trad group anymore. The pipes work well for this song but aren’t necessary for others. Plus he’s a great player either way.

i got the opportunity to watch them in berkeley, california a few months back. it was one of the most euphoric experiences i’ve ever had in my life. go on the wallopers!

it's completely mental they're this big. 4 years ago the live streams were a lifeline, but also felt like a lovely secret. same when I first saw them in Bristol - when Charles sang 'Building up and tearing England down' only me and a couple of others new the words to sing along and it felt really special. But I couldn't be happier for them, and they've scaled up perfectly - no less brilliant live playing to an audience of 10,000+ than they would have been performing to a few dozen unamplified in pubs in Dundalk 5 years ago.
One the reasons I got though covid and the lock downs. Their life streams dragged me up.
@@davecorry same. for all the privations of lockdown, fridays were so simple - few cans and at home with the mary wallopers, never felt like I was missing out on anything for those hours.
Shane McGowan would be proud,this sounds as good as pogues in their heyday 🙂

Strong connection between Che Guevara and Ireland. He had Irish ancestry and Jim Fitzpatrick created that iconic image after meeting him in a pub in County Clare. We've even had it on a postage stamp here.
