Im sorry this game was far from a masterpiece. You said it yourself it was a hodgpodge of ideas and cut content from other games and it shows. Disjointed from top to bottmom.

@dudeguy I am so glad you said that. ile send you my psn so you can see for yourself while youre at it take a gander at the type of games I play and have platinumed. BTW Ninja gaiden sigma blows Dmc out the fugging matrix all together and it was released in the early 2000s as well.
I'm new to DMC1 tech, but experimenting before watching how you do it to see if I could figure it out the slash cancel, I found that a well timed square or circle press (right around the end of the second slash animation/sound is complete, I think a few frames before) also slash cancels. As for the left analog stick, after watching how you do it I found that it doesn't need to be a full spin, it can be a flick in any two opposite directions (up/down, left/right, or even across diagonals), and I find the timing to be more forgiving with this method, although using circle/square is mechanically simpler.
Would love to see guides like this for each mainline DMC games. I consider myself above average in skill and always wanted to learn the more advanced tecniques. I just never know where to start xD.
Yes! My personal favorite DMC game! I love the Shotgun Hiking trick- it's so cool to pull off, and to watch! By the way, that's a great setup for Shotgun Hiking that you showed in this video!
I figured out the grenade gun cancel my first playthrough but slash cancelling has made this game incredibly easy... As well as buying stinger for the first time
I think you can charge the Grenadegun as well. And even better... if you charge, fire then roll right after, you will be able to fire another charged shot without charging again. Essentially, two charged shots with just one charge. It's pretty cool!
I've been grenade rolling for decades, but I'm genuinely impressed to see the shotgun and nightmare beta can keep up if you're willing to learn their various tricks. I'll have to check out the Distortion video to see what's up with that.
Cool stuff!!! Couple other things that were kinda missed: -When using quicksliver you can immediately pause right after it ends in order to unequip it after you launch an enemy! -When using Vortex you can cancel it early by deactivating DT at the beginning and the end of Vortex. This way if you are juggling in the air, you can JC off the Enemy > Shotgun to relaunch > Vortex Loop again! -If Roundtrip is blocked by terrain, enemies can walk into it and be damaged!

Unlucky me I already got the platinum and had to figure some of this on my own but man it would have been way easier if I knew there was slash canceling and just charge looks really powerful aswell let’s hope a lot of people can benefit from this video!!

Ive only played dmc5 and i need that dmc itch scratched and watching a 3 hour video on its history aint enough and in dmc5 i struggled with dante and playing as dante in these games and only dante im struggling this really helped
Idk why but I'm super hype right now lol. I didn't know any of these cancels EXCEPT the grenade roll cancel that I figured out way back in the day all on my own. I'm just proud of myself I guess 😂
That was surprisingly unhelpful. As it seems not to help with the chunkiness, something that is almost completely absent from 2002s Prince of Persia for example.

You can charge up the grenade gun too, it takes a long time though, so roll cancel is more practical.

Actually, you can charge the granade gun too, even fire three charged bullets with it

I just bought the devil may cry bundle on my ps5 and this helped a lot
as a side note I find round trip very useful at building mana against DT marionettes/fetishes

Lb then hold the leftstick in the oppisit direction you are faceing then hit Y if you hold Y dante will launch himself in the air aswell
