I’ve actually been looking for something like this for tinder creation for bushcraft. It’s great because if you sharpen random sticks you get these thin ribbony strips that catch a spark even if they’re wet. You can also sharpen them ahead of time to let them dry out, or fill up the reservoir and leave it full to keep them dry.
For anyone looking for replacement blades, I have always purchased Dux blades and they fix perfectly. Available for purchase everywhere. On the other hand, the longer Möbius + Ruppert blades needed for my Pollux sharpener are becoming incredibly difficult to find.
Question. i just got mine and while I like it so far, sometimes it breaks the point off before it's even close to being sharp, am I doing something wrong? I'm just rotating like normal (some are coloured pencils)
Thanks for the video! Just lost my only pencil sharpener and looking for a new one. I feel like the black wing 2 step one eats up the pencils too quickly- do your pencils seem to last long with this one?
Yea, as long as you mind your pencil as you sharpen, since it doesn't have an auto-stop. Also with softer leads the point may break after sharpening so I think harder leads might work better if your looking for your pencils to last a little longer :) Thanks for watching!
I think how often the blades need changing depends on how frequently you use the sharpener. Mine is in my backpack and doesn't get used as much as other sharpeners I own so I haven't had to change the blades yet. I'm glad you brought up the KUM blade question too because I heard a little rumor about them being interchangeable awhile ago but haven't found anyone to confirm it yet and I haven't tried it myself. If you find out let us know!!
I think it depends how hard the "lead" of the pastel pencils are. Since this sharpener has a more aggressive point it might cause the lead to snap...and I haven't tried any personally so I can't tell you first hand my experience. Hopefully someone in the comments may have tried it and can give us feedback!
Thanks for this. I think it's odd that no one has done a video comparing the original Faber Castell 602 to the Palomino 602. I'd also kinda like to know when F.C. stopped using the word "woodclinched" on their 602's.
Thank you for watching! I 100& would make that video if I could get my hands on an original Faber Castell 602! It's a video I want to see too, but would prefer to make LOL
I must be doing something wrong. Using the same sharpener using Blackwing pencils everyone of them broke. About 5. Never succeeded like this guy did and many others. I highly recommend anything but this.
maybe the blade is misaligned? or try to use less pressure when pushing the pencil into the sharpener and focus most of the pressure rotating the pencil? Blackwings have really soft lead and can snap fairly easily
I'm struggling with the same experience...very careful, many Blackwing pencils...even pressure, no tilting ... and I get breaks all the time. Gonna try a little more.
Yes an no stupid plastic in or around the packaging nor the sharpener. I am really drawn to sustainable and environmentally friendly supplies that last a lifetime. And if it has to be plastic then it must be definetly refillable.

That is a FANTASTIC idea I've never heard of before! Thank you for sharing!!
That's beautiful. God I'm a nerd.
me too :)
Blackwing make lovely sharpeners. I love the design. The Musgrave Tenasee Red is also a good pencil however the lead is not always centred though.
Agreed!
Yes the blackwing design is beautiful, sleek, simple and timeless and black, my favourite "color".

Wow I didn't know pencil sharpening was that deep...❤❤💚💜💙❤❤

Geeze, another brilliant review! Oh, don't be mad... "Smoking Kills." ❤
A Pollux with a reservoir ! I'm in !
basically! lol :)
I contacted support and they said they'll be selling the official replacement blades in packs of 3 in about a month.
Nice! Thanks for letting us know!
I have this. Totally awesome sharpener. Just knock the shavings out every few pencils.
It really is a great travel sharpener! I'm glad you love it as much as i do! :)
Im looking at this for tinder as well. great little tool. Crazy to think a pencil sharpener could save your life.
I loved that idea too! Can't believe I've never thought of that LOL
Very cool, great review. Mucho thanks. For us drawing, pen, pencil nuts really appreciate it. Gonna pick one up. Thanks again. Richard
My pleasure and thanks for watching!

How often Should I change the blades ? And also I m wondering are the blades replacable with Kum 2 point sharpener blades ? Are they same ?

whats the difference between this and ordinary sharpeners?
Thank you for your time

How long is the tip? Like one cm?
With a Blackwing Volume 6 it is 2/3 of a cm or 6.5mm. Not very long, a little unsatisfying compared to a crank sharpener such as the Carl Angel 5.
Glad I saw ths. I just got one of those Sharpeners and it doesn't work, I thought I might have been doing something wrong.
oh no, did it ever get sorted out?
Same here Johnny
@@TheEnthusiastExperiment Get what sorted out? It doesn’t work. Mine doesn’t work. Sorting it out is Blackwings responsibility.
Write the Blackwing company. They will let you know for sure which ones to get for replacements blade.
Can you replace the blade or is it just a overpriced disposable.
I believe they now sell replacement blades (if not yet I heard they should be coming), but you can certainly take the blade out to be replaced
I have seen blades now on the site. So I picked it up. Love it.
How often should I changed the blades ? Also I m wondering Is the blades changable with Kum standart blades ?
I bought 3

Takes 6 minutes to show the ONE FUNCTION we care about... Just sayin. :P
