Problem #1: Unfortunately more vehicles are installing the auto on/off feature to their models and none of them have a permanent disable for the feature. Our Grand Cherokee had the same feature, same problem of having to turn it off as soon as we entered the vehicle. Not a knock at BMW, it's a car industry decision. I'm told with most you can disable it. Problem #2: You needed the X3M to fix this. X3M has two memory buttons mounted on the steering wheel for exactly what you're talking about. Unfortunately, this isn't offered with the M40i. However, I think a majority don't have it in sport mode 24/7 and they figure comfort mode is a better default. (Personal opinion) Problem #3/4: You're comparing sound of a BMW X3 M40i to an Aston Martin Vantage... I won't go into the laundry list of how this logic is flawed. BMW tries to balance both performance and luxury. I won't go into their logic of why they would consider not having the real thing vs pumping in the actual sound but I think you're at personal preference vs most consumers on that one. If they allowed the noise, you'd likely have someone posting a review saying outside noise is terrible in the BMW. Recommendation, roll down your window...or do some aftermarket mods. Problem #5: It's what works for BMW. They have a customer base that prefers it, that's why it sticks with minor improvements. I can say that there are many that do it better, but most are far behind what BMW does. I hope they improve it even more in the future, but it's come a long way from when I bought in 2012. Again, you're trying to compare a $60K vehicle vs $80K+. For $20K+ I'd expect more as well.
#1: true- all part of making more fuel efficient cars. #2: that makes sense. If you’re not getting the sportiest version then I guess it is what it is haha #3: wasn’t actually trying to compare it to my car. I think I didn’t convey it well or assumed people know which is dumb but my Aston has a valve that stays shut under 4k rpm and I pulled a fuse so that it always stays open. I was trying to say my Aston is the same as the M40i in the sense that they both have valves that stay shit unless you pull a fuse. #5 yea I guess it’s whatever people like but in this case it’s something I dislike and threw it in the video. In my mind it’s the exact same one as the 2016 X3 she had and I hated it then and nothing has changed but from another perspective if people stick with the brand then they’re used to it and it’s easy to hop in a new car an feel comfortable. Thanks for the comments- love to hear what other people think as well 🤙🏽
So the reason it stays in on mode en comfort mode is to do with statistics Bmw has a responsibility to say their co2 emissions are X... pending the driver... the pops and crackles are to do with vacumes...
The BMW Infotainment system has been the best one on the market for last 5 years. This is a fact. It takes 5 seconds to connect to Bluetooth or Apple car play. The auto start/stop feature as well as default driving mode can be reprogrammed in any bmw service centre. The sound of the engine through the speakers was on the car that you did test-drive before purchasing it. If you didn’t like it why would you buy it then? This video is about nothing. Waste of time….
With owning more that 10 bmw cars! It’s a given!!! you click the auto off and on when you get into the car. Yes! Some of the bmws make it go back to auto but if you know the Brand you would know that it’s necessary for the location the car is made in. Yes in the United States we do not need the crappy auto stop start but in the location it’s made you must have this or you risk a large fine for your car running. Stupid but unfortunate and we don’t have a choice :(
Yea I did that. But you have to order the Bluetooth connector. Pay for the app. And then code it out. Yes simple, but bmw could have easily had this in the settings.
@@JIMMY-ck1oe since I haven’t driven a Lexus long entI can’t judge the reliability! My 3 series though was perfect in two years of ownership and no sign of any problem and it was 6 years old already when I got it. Now looking at my brand new Volvo issues, I miss that old BMW a lot!

Just picked up an X3 M40i and we love it. I also hate the auto start/stop and the fact we have to disable it everytime! My 2017 640i would leave it off, but BMW changed this after 2018 I’m told. By the way our 2019 Audi S5 does the auto start/stop too. And I hate it. So it’s definitely must be an auto industry feature that most manufacturers migrating to. Maybe has to do with achieving certain mpgs.
Nice! Overall awesome cars 🤙🏽. Glad to hear I’m not the only that dislikes the auto start stop haha. Yea, I’m sure it has to do with helping to achieve a certain mpg.
So did BMW really pump the exhaust sounds through the speaker system?? Is there any truth to this lol? I just ordered a 2021 X3 M40i and when I test drove the car, put the car in sport mode, it was SUPER FAST & Loud I loved it... but are they tricking me lol??? Let me know pls!!
I’m pretty sure they do. Granted the cars still sound good and have a real exhaust note that sounds nice. If you’re standing outside of the car you hear when the valves are open vs closed especially at cold start. But I do believe there is some fake noise still. Still fun quick cars 🤙🏽
The start stop is the same with Mercedes. I feel like it’s a feature to force or trick people into driving in eco mode for the environment. I’m guessing there’s some law that was passed that made it a must have.

Worst car review ever dude. Leave your personal preferences out of it. It’s a great SUV. None of those complaints were valid. It was your personal opinion.😂
Yea, Tesla definitely takes the cake. Everything is very intuitive and the steering wheel controls can control everything. From changing the volume to changing the actual station to increasing fan speed and temp for AC and heat. Super simple touchscreen setup 🤙🏽
Nice! They’re a solid car for sure. The M40i at the very least is a lot more fun over the base and definitely a good way to save money compared to the full blown x3m variant 🤙🏽
Bro has a $2k Aston Martin and everything he complains about in this video is a non issue if you daily drive the car. He’s basically mad that his GF has an infinitely nicer car than him 😂
You know what I actually hate most about this car - the depreciation. I bought my Aston for less than $35k 3 years ago or so and this car was probably 1.5-2x that new. Today our BMW is worth less than my Aston martin. The depreciation on these cars is god awful. Luckily we overall love the car but talk about a money pit. If you're ever looking for one 100% buy used, you'll still lose a ton of money but I guess hopefully a little less 🤣
The infotaiment is not built for idiots.... the same with the car... its not built for simplicity... you can go on the app and actually upgrade stuff..... the car is the best performamce compact super suv.....
tune the on and off button for it to stay off
It’s cool to have that feature. Save gas

Porsche Macan has auto stop/start but once you deactivate the console button that controls that feature it stays off for good, Porsche FTW!
If you drove the car everyday the stop start becomes unnoticeable. I have a 3 series that has this. Don’t even notice it anymore.
I can't give a thumbs up for this great video until you get a hair cut.
His hair is FANTASTIC!!!
You can code that auto start stop to be off by default. Many other things as well

Code the on/off to be off among other things. Video in motion and etc. and all that jazz. Bimmercode
