- In India, a group of scientists advising the Narendra Modi government on the coronavirus says it warned of a new and more dangerous virus variant back in March, but that the government ignored their warnings.An international relief effort to help India deal with its devastating second wave of COVID-19 infections is gathering pace.
Countries ranging from Germany and France to Taiwan and Russia are sending aid. But India's vaccine roll-out is being hampered by a shortage of shots, and new cases and deaths are still hitting record levels.
People lie in the corridors of a hospital in Madhya Pradesh. Those with a bed are hardly better off without oxygen. Relatives can only watch as their loved ones run out of breath.
Precious oxygen is delivered to a hospital in Delhi under police escort. But it comes too late. Eight people died waiting.
Medical supplies are flying in. From Germany, ventilators. And from Russia, vaccines. Once a vaccine exporter, India is now desperate for imports.
Several states have run out of vaccines, even as the inoculation campaign expands to all adults. Those who wait to get a shot know they're the lucky ones.
Sikh devotees in Punjab cram together in a shrine. Religious gatherings have been partly blamed for India's coronavirus outbreak. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined the crowds. Some Indians blame his leadership for the crisis. Across India, anger burns like so many funeral pyres.

I am a frontline Doctor ..my heart breaks everyday during work and what hurts is we aren't able to save our own staff either. Today also we lost one staff nurse who has two little kids. Yet we keep going on. But the question is how long ? Why can't we feel protected ? Why can't we work in an environment full of essential resources? 😞

Man, family is a big thing in India, like tight knit. I’m talking 10 people a house, not cause they have nowhere to go, but they choose to stay with family (whether it’s providing income, or culture, etc). This is true, i lost my father recently (already lost my mother when i was 15). Not only me many close friends ofine lost their parents. Family is a part of individual here in india. My father was not just my father, he was my mother my friend my business partner i have 2 degrees and 3 diplomas and i left a well paying job to be with him and i finally was happy. He was like a lighthouse to me and now without him its so difficult to find a shore. I can never forgive the useless government we have, they are busy just fighting elections for past 6 7 years and they don't care about us. India was not like this, we had our issues but our leaders always come forward when nation goes through tough times. But now these politicians who won om religious grounds dont care. Our home minister (2nd most powerful post) when asked why was he doing rallies during covid, said he is not answerable to us and told reporters to bugger off and ask EC who are actually under him.

It was indeed very sad but I was really annoyed when her hands touch her eyes. I mean what's the point wearing gloves then? The virus does not care if you were wiping tears due to grieve or whatever legit reason you have. They just replicate whenever and wherever they can. People r also responsible for this blunder. They were not wearing masks n roaming freely. First India would have closed the airports in February itself. I'm sorry if I come across as unnecessarily cynical, but I feel like pointing out that "Prayers" is a bit... hypocritical? misfitting? ... when addressed at a person that might have lost their father specifically to the fact that an over-emphasis on religious gathering might have caused that father's infection (indirectly) to begin with. Like "Religion unintentionally killed your father, here, have some more religion!"
Spirituality has it's place, but I cannot agree where worshipers are willing to endanger the lives of others for the sake of attending a religious gathering. And I'm willing to entertain the though that trying to play on that religious aspect is a very deliberate (PR) move by people such as Modi to distract the public from their own administrative failure.
So, if you truly wish to do something, a first step would be to reexamine just how critical spirituality and religious conformity is, and whether there might be more or less appropriate times and places to practice it. Sorry if I'm sounding bitter, but beyond just seeing this unnecessary loss of human life, it pains me that, once more, it seems to be an abuse of spirituality that seems to at the very least to share part in that blame.
One of the doctors in local news said that in most affected areas some hospitals were asking much more oxygen than what was actually required . As a result , patients die in other hospitals with scarcity of oxygen.
It's true brother. Oxygen cylinders are being acquired by highly influential people (who have even asymptomatic covid19). So actual patients who needed oxygen are dying. It's hard fact of our India.
Suppose if there is a scenario like Poor patient vs rich/highly influenced patients, poor will die and rich will survive. Since India has more ration of poor people compared to rich, death ration also increasing... I feel it's not death, it's murder of humanity.
I am from Pakistan. I Wish India a quick recovery. I follow a few Indian newspaper pages on facebook. I am absolutely astonished on how much controlled the Indian media outlets are. Instead of sharing actual on ground stories of the situation and spreading awareness and education, Indian media is busy sharing news of IPL cricket league. Indian media is trying to downplay the covid situation and trying to paint a rosy picture of the current situation. What's sad is that most Indian people defend the government and religious gatherings like kumbh festival where millions gathered. They also say IPL is spreading positivity in current times. It is almost inhuman to find sources of entertainment in cricket stadiums while people are dying on streets outside those stadiums. Nothing against public for searching for entertainment, as humans everywhere are same.
But this goes on to show that media has succeeded in what they are trying to do in partnership with the government.
I am forced to think that if this suffering of Indian public can be managed so well by government through media, how well they must be managing the Indian atrocities in kashmir. I am appalled. Having said that I wish India a quick recovery and hope that Pakistani government manages it better and Pakistani people take some lessons from Indian people and act with less carelessness. Wish for a better world.

My friend says, see God shows us that he is real and still thinking of us with miracle and I asked her that why God gave little girl cancer in the first place. Yes, but at the moment it's a hopeless situation out here, there's not enough hospital beds, oxygen supplies and drugs to keep them alive, family members are trying their best to procure these supplies everywhere, so it's something that can't be avoided right now.
With due respect mam, hospitals in India are not like we just to inside the hospital door and everything will be taken care. We need to run from door to door. Imagine who is very sick and leaving him alone! God help my county India.

It is so sad to see so much unsafe behavior. No social distancing, hardly any masks, and that poor little girl who lost her father was touching her eyes with her fingers and her mask was not on correctly. This next month or two is going to be really tough for India and its people.
When you are in trauma of losing your father, nothing comes in mind I can understand her position because last year I lost my father amid corona and for a month I and my entire family did not know where masks were, social distancing and other safety methods. I am not saying its correct but I dont judge her either. My heartfelt condolence to her and her family.
