Informants are vitally important to all police investigators. Informants are people who, through their professional or personal contacts, have access to criminal information. While not acting on behalf or the direction of the police, they acquire information that they can voluntarily provide to the police, usually for either some type of monetary reward or purely for the altruistic reason of helping to make the world a better place.
