Yeah I drive a tow truck as well it is helpful but I’m not doing this if it’s been in a collision. Most of the time they are trashed and just need to be dragged on and shaken off

That was absolutely amazing thank you for showing me how to press the parking brake release button and turn off the parking brake for some reason I thought this video was an override for the parking brake but I guess the four minutes I just spent watching somebody turn the brake on and turn the breaker off by simply pressing a button with the key will probably help me if I have a key.
Thank you for the video. I just watched on the side of the road ato helpme figure out how to help a stranded motorist. Worked like a charm, and I was able to get her out of the roadway.

I have to think that if the battery is truly dead, you're not going to be able to set that parking brake since it appears to be an electrical switch. From a safety and reliability standpoint, I really DO NOT like these electric parking brakes. The car manufacturers should have stayed with the tried and proven manual mechanically operated emergency brakes (which also act as parking brakes).
People also need to understand that there is a big difference between the tried and proven mechanical emergency brake systems and these new electrically operated *parking* brake systems. These new systems are *only* for when you've already stopped the car, not for an emergency situation. With the old systems, if you were descending a long mountain road and your engine stopped running for whatever reason, you could slow the vehicle down with the hand (or foot) operated emergency brake even if you had NO electrical power. That's not necessarily the case with these *parking* brake systems that they are putting on cars these days.
It it ain't broke, don't "fix" it... Especially when the "fix" is not really a fix...

So, you get to enjoy a quicker trip down the mountain in the event of a dead engine and battery. Yee haw!
Better hope that you have someone else in the car with you so that you can both push the doors all the way out to add more wind resistance to hopefully slow it up a bit...
Other than for parking, I mainly use the emergency brake for an adjustment to my speed when I need to match speed with some cars on the freeway so as to slip between them to get to the exit lane. Up in Dallas for example, the freeway exit warning signs might only give you 1/4 mile of notice before the exit comes up. By doing it this way, I can merge through traffic while staying the same speed as that lane and not make anyone nervous because I had to put my brakes on right in front of them. The emergency brake does not light up your brake lights. I don't do this often, but sometimes it is useful.
One thing about the electrical parking brakes that I wonder about though is whether they stay locked when you have no electrical power to your vehicle. From a safety standpoint, you would think that they should since otherwise it would mean that the parking brake was constantly draining power from your battery when you had the parking brake set. If they stay locked when there is no battery power though, that means that you need to provide power to get them to unlock and if your battery is truly dead, that's not going to happen.
For every "neat little feature" that they add to a car, there are consequences.
Neat little features can be an inconvenience sometimes.
Yeah, these young engineers get all excited about adding some new feature and don't have the experience to realize what sort of problems it might introduce. The ESS, electric parking brakes, and electronic gear selectors are prime examples of this.
I'm currently in Ireland and Hertz does not rent diesel vehicles here anymore. Something about the EU getting away from diesel. Gasoline over here is around €1.45 whereas diesel is around €1.35. So, you get to pay €0.10 more for less gas mileage. But I'm sure some Euro-green-weenie thinks he's saving the environment or something. I'm stuck driving the Renault Captur, some little gutless wonder where I'm being passed by people on *bicycles*... :( I think it's only 90 hp, and that is only when the little hamsters under the hood were fairly young. Right now, I think the hamsters have gotten a bit geriatric.

I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee. I think I let the battery run too low, listening to my stereo while cleaning the car. Well now I have a setting that reads, "Service Park Brake". It won't let me move. Wondering if I replace the battery will it reset? Or any tips on how to reset it?
You may need to just start the battery.
@@BrandonHaneline It started and I let it run for a good 20-30 minutes. I took the cable off and waited a couple hours and replaced. Started up, same issue.

This has nothing to do with the electric parking break. This is the gear shift override. No need to play with the EPB
My GOSH, I understand technology can be awesome. But certain things should just remain the same. I haven't tried this yet, but I am curious to know if my brakes give out, can we use the switch to activate the emergency brakes?

I couldn't figure out why. however, when AAA showed and while he is loading the car on his truck, I am guessing the force of his winch unlocked emergency break. after that it worked. However we sent it to dealer anyway. Not too long after this day we sold it back to dealer. good riddens, I would not buy jeep anymore. Oh yeah another thing happened the headlights wasn't coming on. we took it to local shops they said we have to take it dealer. Of course the dealer is charging diag fee, repair labor and parts which is totals close to $2000. we refiused to pay it and got lucky the dealer wanted back. good luck to rest of you.
Mine won’t shut off because it’s saying it’s not in park but it is. I read it could be the Shift button module. I have to put it in neutral to turn the engine off but the dash stays lit and reads parking sensor not active. Any suggestions?

Your video did not help because you have the key I don’t have the key so I can’t take off the electronic brake I’ve got a neutral, but it won’t move because the brakes on
this thing pisses me off. there are time in my line of work where I need to roll with the door open and this dang switch won't allow it. this override is rediculous. I'm not going through that every time
i never knew there was an actual key in the fob. there's no key slots anywhere on the car that i'm aware of so what purpose does it serve?

lol.....didnt even realize there was a key slot on the driver door. some things are easy to overlook.
@@MegaBluebone I was not aware of this before, but if you pry the cover off the Start/Stop button....there is a key slot behind it. I can not confirm but that is the myth.

Why can't I pull my 2015 grand Cherokee up on ramps it automatically throws it in park.is it because the electronic stability control? I bought it used and am now up for first oil change.i do it myself but thanks to all the technology on it lol a safety feature won't let it climb car ramps.im frustrated
