I forgot to mention in the video: this tent comes in at 16.4 oz on my scale, including the stuff sack and cords. Also, the sleeping pad is actually a size Small Sea to Summit UL insulated pad, not size Regular. The pad is 5'6". I somehow got my sizes mixed up in the video.
Thank you so much for all the time spent on showing the interior in such great detail. In my opinion, the best video I have yet seen in this regard. Great job!
Thanks for the review. I have been giving strong consideration to purchasing either this tent (Aeon Li) or the Notch Li. Your review, and one other, has mean leaning toward the Aeon Li. I've never owned a single wall tent before, so I was concerned about condensation. That doesn't seem to be a serious issue with this tent. Like you, I also prefer using only one trekking pole for setup. I am hoping the 2020 version is in stock soon. Happy trails!
Excellent video! Thanks for posting this and showing us your Tarptent Aeon Li! I've been eyeing a number of tents for awhile now and this one and the Zpacks Hexamid and Altaplex are in the running (as well as the Gossamer Gear The DCF One). It's great to hear your thoughts on it as well as showing us the tent! Thanks!
Thanks Tim! For me, the Aeon provides a lot more storm protection than the Hexamid (I used the Hexamid fo 6 years prior to the Aeon). I can't speak about the Altaplex or The DCF One, as I've never used those. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on The DCF One to try out someday :)
@@AdventurePlusMe quick question! How do you pack this tent in your pack? I’ve traditionally packed mine sideways, that won’t seem to work with this :(
@@GettingCrunkBrotha I can't pack this horizontally in my pack either, which is one of the downsides of this tent. I've been packing it in the water bottle side pocket of my Ohm 2.0 backpack, and that has been working. In wet weather I put the tent in its stuff sack and then a trash bag, since it's stored on the outside of my pack. I just got a new pack, so I'll try different ways of storing it on/in the new pack.
Look at the Backpacking light article 9if you are a member) on this tent in a winter storm. It did not do well in keeping spindrift snow out. That's why I got the double wall Notch Li. But I'll say Tarptent did get the "mid" style tent right with its innovations. And the Gen.2 has a waterproof zippered door plus it's now made in China at a top tier factory giving it "Hilleberg quality".. I feel NObody makes Dyneema tents as well designed as Tarptent or built as well.
Eric B, I have seen that article and watched Ryan's video reviewing the tent. I don't usually backpack in snow conditions, so I wasn't too concerned about that. The Aeon fits my backpacking needs. But other folks may have other situations where this tent might not be the "perfect" tent for them. You're right, Tarptent makes some super Dyneema tents!
For your lower altitudes backpacking the AEON Li is perfect - and perfectly light. I often have to camp above 9,000 ft. and need the extra security of a double wall. I do envy the interior space of your AEON. One could spend a stormbound day in it without going nuts but not so much in my coffin-sized Notch Li. Sunny trails!
great first look & hope it works out well and look forward to your update.. oh and i use a really cheap tarp tent (not a traptent.. yet!) that i love but seriously looking at this for an upgrade. thanks again
Thanks rigby Bucolic! I look forward to using it all spring/summer/fall. By biggest complaint so far about this tent is the packability (bc it has the center rod and carbon struts), but perhaps that's bc I got used to the tiney Zpacks Hexamid that I had for 6 years. But so far it's a super comfortable tent and it's held up and kept me dry in a super Florida rainstorm. What tarp tent are you using?
@@AdventurePlusMe if i do get one i'll be packing vertical up against my back alongside my food bag as these are the heaviest things i'll have. mine is a chinese 'homage' to the locus gear khufu.. i was planning on getting a proper khufu until the aeon came along ;)
Awesome! Congrats on the new Aeon, it's a great tent! If you set it up and don't quite like the way it's set up with the Tarptent instructions, I made a quick 3 min video on a different way to set it up, which helps me pitch it great every time: ua-cam.com/video/VolBkCgJoWQ/v-deo.html When I pitch it the way Tarptent instructs, I seem to only get a good pitch about 70 percent of the time.
Thanks, pgreenx! When I was looking into getting a new tent I really wanted something with ample floor space, something that weighed about the same as my hexamid tent, was DCF, and only needed 1 trekking pole. The Aeon Li has more floor space than the Notch Li. I have been super happy with the amount of room I have, considering it's a 1 person shelter. The Aeon Li is also almost 3 oz lighter than the Notch Li. I am pretty petite so I try to keep my gear as light as possible, as long as it functions how I want. I also really like the fact that the Aeon Li only requires 1 trekking pole. If, by some chance, I break a pole while hiking, I am not out of luck when it comes to setting up my tent at the end of the day. I also noticed that the Aeon Li has a heighter height. For some folks, perhaps the "double wall" aspect of the Notch Li is important. I have been using a DCF single wall tent since 2014 and have not had many problems with condensation. That's not to say I've never had condensation, it's just that it has never posed a problem for me (I just don't touch the walls on those occassions I've had when there is condensation). I hope that helps. If you have anymore questions, please let me know.
Adventure Plus Me thanks. I was on the fence between both and went for the notch. Funny thing is I have some fancy carbon trekking poles and don’t take them for the reason you mention. I do like all the netting with both doors open though and think it will be nice on warm nights

Hey! Are you still using this tent and what are your thoughts about it after couple of years? 😌
Hi, nice video, did you succeed in finding the perfect pitch with consistency or you still struggle...?
Thanks! I did. I recently did a quick video about it here: ua-cam.com/video/VolBkCgJoWQ/v-deo.html
I'm a flat tarp guy myself but this is a sweet tent.
I tried going with just a tarp a few years back, but for some reason I didn't sleep as well as I do in an enclosed tent.
@@AdventurePlusMe I'm a little on the tall side so I just like the space I can get. Different strokes though!!!
That makes sense! I'm pretty short, so I don't have the same concerns.
