Then there's our timeline. The one where he revealed VR on xbox was a virtual screen you could play on a virtual couch in low resolution and a lame popup gallery Halo where you shoot cutouts of halo characters. You could literally see tumbleweeds rolling across the stage. Phil had embarassed himself and hated VR ever since causing him to get cold feet and never wanting to take a risk ever again. This is the darkest timeline.
Even with old graphics, a strong personality will make it age like wine. Combat Evolved, Half-Life & Shadow Of The Collossus come to my mind with this statement.
I got quite choked up when I got it playing in VR at first. Halo was the first game my eldest son and I played together. We made proper friends for the first time. When VR came along with the first release of the HTC Vive we both took to it with a passion. When my son moved away, VR was how we kept in touch, and spending time together. It still is. I used to dream of Halo in VR. It's not just an awesome game. It's what it means to my son and I. I really hope the co-op mode works in VR too. Netherless I am already to the point that I'm on the Pillar of Autumn trying to find the reactor to blow it up. The VR mod makes the vehicles not so great, but the running and gunning is waaaay better than flatscreen with a controller. The flood are actually fun now. VR gives you a much better appreciation of what the weapons can do too. After the initial hiccup with the cartographer mission, which the dev fixed within hours, I've not had a single glitch and not even a hint of nausea. Unlike with other VR mods.
Genuinely, if this was just a little more polished in terms of the VR implementation for some of the controls and weapons reloading, etc, and someone did an HD texture update, I think it would hold up as one of the best VR games on Quest 3--yes, put it as standalone. I wish someone like Armature Studios would do just that. With their recent stellar work on the RE4 VR port for Quest 3, I think they could make this something really special with basically the same approach.
WELP. I'm charging my Quest 1 and grabbing my PC installation CD tonight... I really needed to know about this and I'm so glad the alrogithym put this in front of me, thanks so much for sharing!
In case anyone sees this comment and runs into trouble setting this up, the game has to be launched from Steam VR and needs to be launched as Admin the first time to generate a config file. Some UI elements don't work for me like most of the menus but it definitely is playable. I'm very excited to experience this and can't wait to keep playing.
It was fun to watch you play and really enjoying yourself and appreciating the game. Not boring at all. You should make and share more videos of games you truly enjoy playing.
Any idea how to disable snap turning? Edit: Figured it out. After running it once there is a config.txt file in the VR folder, and it has a snap turn option default to true, just set that false and save.
Gonna try it after i gett home. I was so happy to see half life 2 get a vr mod, so i cant wait to try this too. One thing i think would be cool to see is manual reloading like other vr games do where you have to manually put a magazine in, cock the gun if needed, ect.
@@deepdivevr7244theyre definitely not inactive. they jus updated the doom3quest RoE build for patrons n theyre working on quake 4 still as well. that n the tomb raider vr mod beef raider, no clue where u got the idea theyre inactive
team beef also seems to generally work on content where the game engine has been open sourced. This seems to be a mod for a game that already runs on windows. Having the source code for the game, you could move all the assets to your headset, but without the source code, you can’t really compile a binary that’s going to run on arm. You could do X 86 emulation and for a game this old that might actually work but that’s a pretty big task.
OK, just tried it and it's still very cool, even for like a 20 year old game that was never made for VR. It's just a shame it's not quite perfectly implemented with some slightly clunky controls for certain actions and such--but can't really blame the modder for that, as they've worked wonders so far--and that you can tell some of the visuals obviously haven't been modified fully for VR. If this were taken on by the same team that did say the RE4 VR game for Quest 3, it could be absolutely amazing with some updated textures and a bit more polished implementation of the controls and stuff, like proper reloading and proper melee without the strange rotation of the weapon, etc, just like they did with the RE4 version for Quest 3. Honestly, everything else could stay the same visually and it would be fine. And even the characters cast better shadows than in RE4 VR on Quest 3, which I'm sure they could keep this time if they put this game on Quest 3. Man how I wish there were a proper official standalone Quest 3 version of this for VR like that.
@@Player3. I don't know which version is the custom edition. But you just need to find the gearbox PC lSO version online. A search will get you to somewhere you can download it. Now, it will not be the legal way, as apparently you can't really get that version legit anymore, but that's your call to make there. And then you just go through the rest of the steps to get it all setup and working in VR.
This is awesome, but the movement speed is faster than the og version. Not that I'm complaining because it was painfully slow after playing any of the later sequels!
Is it possible to use the magnums scope in the mod? Incredibly cool though, still better an than most games running directly onto your outstretched weapon
Studios really need to start investing in native VR support for their games. No reason Microsoft could not add native VR support for all MCC games. It would breath life back into many old games and give reason for VR players to purchase these games on PC if they don't already have them.

Edit: OK, so I have the PC version on my PC (got via ... ahem), and I extracted the HaloCEVR zip into the folder with the game exe and then tried to run the game, but it's coming up with a crash saying Asset Array could not be found? Note: My VR headset isn't connected at this point, and it would be a Quest 3 via cable I'd be using, if that's relevant here. Note 2: Microsoft/Bungie really needs to make this official and just let people download it from Steam as a proper VR version or whatever. Something so simple and direct that it just works.
@Tyrielwood also you can use smooth turn. The vr folder you gotta edit the config note and change snap turn to false. lots of hud adjustment settings too. Had to tinker since Huds on the bigscreen beyond always tend to be outside the sweet spot of its low fov

Halo CE is a DirectX 8.1 era game , running on Geforce 3 and Celeron 667MHz machine. So, you know how dated the PC version is. Unless somebody can rip the HD textures from XBox one version of MasterChief Collection and merged them into this early PC version.... But it's enemy AI and BG story is AMAZING~
Reverse engineering is very specific to a specific version of a game and executable. So anniversary will never work with the mod, it has to be the specific version, and patched version, mentioned. You can also turn snap turning to false in the config file.
@Tyrielwood I installed but didnt copy the folders on hard drivre first time, total noob. My problem now is that the game plays flat, then it updates with this archive but then it wont enter anymore asking for a valid serial key before launch. Tried other non iso version and it enters flat too but the update (tried 2 different archives)dont find the game on pc even when I put it and try it from the game folder. Its seems that after 2 hours I just dont know what Im doing wrong or maybe I just need another version or original to play. Thanks for the reply, great vídeo!

You forgot the patch, it has to be 1.0.10, follow all steps on the vr mod github

Somebody in the comments said you can enable smooth turn in the config files. Haven’t tried it personally
