Just doing a quick video, giving you my personal top 5 about why it is difficult to be a renaissance festival vendor. Again, it's just my top five out of hundreds of reasons. Feel free to leave your reasons down below in the comments. Thanks for watching!
One other thing with vendors is that you can group up to vend, which works a lot better with some types of things. If you're doing leatherwork or similar, find some other people doing similar things and cooperate, I know a few groups where it's a group effort to be able to make the products in various amounts. Especially if it's not something that can just be churned out with enough variety for appeal...one guy I know just makes a pile of forged buttons in different sizes since they're relatively easy to do a decent number in a shorter time, he's mainly doing it as a break from his normal work, and there's a few jars of them at one of the booths where they're sold. Not enough demand for just selling that, and he's a farrier for most of the time, so it lets him use up some scrap there for something useful, another does some interesting smaller bracelets and mug frogs from scrap leather, he normally works on saddles and such, but he has pieces that work well and let him get something back for excess material with some minor work...but he doesn't have the time to make the amounts of them and other leather goods to support a booth of his own. So, cost wise, finding some other small vendors/crafters to create a company or similar entirely for selling at the faire, perhaps add a bit more as you go with online things, but it lets you get your feet wet...and some might see the value in selling at the faire, but not want to actually go there and sell it...plus it means that you can swap around who is actually handling the shop if someone wants to have a day or two in order to actually see the faire. I'm also just hoping that the plague of resellers disappears from most faires...
That is fantastic information. Thank you for sharing that. There are so many ways to work the faire as a vendor because the community is very helpful. This information helps others that watch this video see more options available to them. And YES...the resellers are a killer. That needs to be extinct from these fairs as it once was. Thank you again for sharing!
