I do not care if he used drugs, we know little of what folks go through, how they feel about life. He gave us some of the best music of a generation which will live on into eternity! Remember boys and girls, life can be pretty crappy. I will pour a little bourbon in his honor and listen to his work. Damn, gone too soon!!!!!

Exactly! What Roy contributed to music the short time he was on this planet is far more important than any asterisk people try to put on his legacy. RIH

Later for the, judgement and you can be addicted to anything. He was a great artist and trumpet player. Celebrate his music and who he was. One of the baddest trumpet players I have ever heard. At 61 years old I have listened to a lot of jazz from age 15 on. Roy had that special sound and tone that was all his. Genius and humility. That was Roy Hargrove. Amen. Rest in power my brother.

I saw this interview a year ago..now he's gone just like that. Iam stunned, i did not know he was suffering from kidney problems for so long. Why do all the great ones leave so early? I think because they are extraordinarily sensitive and serious about their art..It must be a heavy weight to carry. Booker Little left early because of uremia. Rest in peace Roy you left us with your great art that will be here forever. Love to you and your family and friends...

Thank you Roy for being that inspiration while I sat on that chair for 12 hours a week listening to your music little to I know you where in the same boat, I had the honour to see you at the Cape Town Jazz Festival, cutting short my dialysis that Saturday, afternoon and you made it worth it, I was on that chair for 10 years and had my transplant in 2011.When you passed in 2018 I was shocked and the news that you were in Renal failure, not knowing my kidneys suddenly rejected in 2019, I am back on that machine since 2020 but guess what I don't fear it cos I have you brother to listen and inspire me give me hope and make that 4 hours pass so quick like you did for 10 years ago last time, so keep blowing that sweet sound brother Roy we all still need your inspiration, calmness, happiness and love.RIP my Brother

RIP ROY HARGROVE...I first met Roy back in the late 1990s, at the Town Hall in Times Square Manhatten...He and drummer Willie Jones were jamming hard and intense...Willie was kicking that bass drum pedal so hard, the mallot stem snapped in half during the set...Myself being a fellow drummer, found it to be hilarious!!! The life of a jazz musician is an emotional rollercoaster. You have to know when to say no. It’s imperative to be selective and listen to your body. There’s nothing wrong with taking hiatuses in order to replenish. Being in tune with oneself is the ultimate set. Rest in Peace Brotha, you’ll be truly missed.

Kidney failure alone makes you feel exhausted, depleted and yes depressed. When you are sick and toxins in your body are high, it's hard to even get out of bed in the morning. Dialysis is also hard. My Dad underwent Dialysis and would come home exhausted. I was spared dialysis, but was quite sick and was then saved. I was very very lucky. But make no mistake - there is no cure for kidney failure - only treatment. Drug addiction on top of all of that - wow- so sad and lots of suffering and I suppose trying not to suffer. I am so sorry that someone who had this craft is now gone. Rest in peace Roy. Thank you for music. Music is forever, Roy.

As a longtime Afro American Vocalist singing standards, celebrating the American Songbook, and not having received a great deal of recognition, I really can understand the pain that artists like Roy live with every day. He is obviously a very talented, and cultured man, proud of his heritage and background. He finds it very hard to maintain life as an artist because he is not, and has not been treated as such. Instead he was treated as a commodity in his younger days ( all those recordings ), and discarded when he wanted to speak to the spiritual connection of his talent. All the FANS who talk about listening, and how he looks fall into the same old hipster bullshit, that's been pedaled by those venues since the beginning. We can't all, nor should we all have to appeal to that New SCHOOL, BERKLEE, and HARVARD JAZZ crap. Despite the "Drug Problem" Roy Hargrove continues to play music at a very high level as compared to the "students", who can't understand how he is able to do it, Even when He tells you every time. He Plays For God! I have never used drugs in my life, and I have been doing music for 40 years, but I have refused to do anything else to survive except music. If you live around addicts you take on the look and feel of addicts, or whatever environment your in. Roy's vessel is pure. Please remember all the cats from before, Bobby Timmons, Sonny Clark, Miles, Bird and too many others to mention who were out there in the world, and all its harshness, and not sitting around being hip in cyber space. Peace!
