- As we approach the eighth month in Starfield's lifespan, many were beginning to grow concerned about how the game had received few significant updates. Finally, we're starting to see signs of life! City maps, vehicles, new gameplay options, our first sneak peek at Shattered Space, and even a new dialogue camera were all debuted. Where does this leave Starfield now and how does it line up future updates? It'll be an interesting road to the expansion to say the least.

I hope they add bounty hunter missions where you can bring prisoners back alive…and make use of having a jail cell on your ship.
Yeah, wasted potential by miles, a lot of things were. Same as missing things, IE cant buy weapon mods, like what?
And hire a doctor for the infirmary
Exactly. A freestar ranger, and can't even use the brig on your own ship.
I was so disappointed the first time I tried to do this, I disabled the enemy ship and wanted to take the guy in alive but noooooooo. At least the modders will fix things, I hope
@@BH-pt1ps There are already bounty / take prisoner mods. They're just limited in scope by what is allowed at this stage without full mod tools.
Food healing was definitely something that needed reworked. Eating an entire inventory full of food only to gain like 30 hitpoints back was crazy. Especially when there was no hunger aspect, it just made carrying food around utterly pointless.
Agreed, even selling it was menial.
I just want the Mantis Cave to be usable as a player home.
That would be dope.
Great idea! Could be modded in if anything
Yes! 🙌
I wish more of the game was like the mantis quest. I played it too early and thought thats what the rest of the game would be like
@@Irivesper Same!
This is the 1st vehicle in bethasda history it’s funny they literally ONLY JUST NOW made a vehicle kinda funny tbh
Honestly I think the spaceships count as a vehicle
@@jonathonshirley4169nah
False, first vehicle was Skyrim horse, functionally a vehicle. I don't know why there has been the narrative for so long that they just can't do vehicles for some reason. Hell even the power armour is a separate entity to the actual player model in fallout 4, kind of like a vehicle.
EDIT: So people seem to have really missed the point of my comment. I'm not saying that Bethesda games that don't have vehicles should have vehicles. I am saying that the capability of having vehicles in Bethesda games has been there for a long time. 1. Because they have done it in the past (Horses) 2. Because they are doing it now with Starfield.
The reason I think this is an important point is because some people gave Bethesda a lot of slack for not having land vehicles in Starfield because they believed it to not be possible in the Creation engine and I don't understand why this has been said for so long. Also yes I'm aware Skyrim was not the first game to have horses, I don't know why I said first lol.
And I don't understand why people decided to start arguing about what the definition of the word "Vehicle" is, especially since most of them seem to be wrong anyway, rather than grasp the actual point. Seriously do they actually think a vehicle has to have wheels because they think only cars are vehicles? In that case if we put rollerblades on a horse is it now a car? The answer is no, but it is still a vehicle :)
FINAL EDIT: This is just for the guy who truly believes horses, and seemingly anything other than cars, are not vehicles. And anyone who doesn't wanna read the whole thing, or anyone still wondering if horses are or are not in fact vehicles. Surprise surprise, just googled "are horses a vehicle". Go do it yourself. The result is "Anything that moves one from point to point is a vehicle. A horse is a non-motorized vehicle" I swear the human race is doomed :)
@@jonathonshirley4169 they don’t if their not actually spaceships
@@gecho8848 do either of those have wheels? No? That’s what I thought
Love Starfield, super itching to get back to it now. The only BIG thing I want now is to be able to get my old ship back after NG+. I do not want to have to build it again, save my plans and let me buy the thing
At least for ones that you build I dont mind having to buy ships again but they definitely should save the ones we personally build
Yeah would be dope if they let you pick at least one ship to carry over. Stoked on the Empty Habs tho
Or like a blueprint you could save and implement when you have the credits
@@Vulcan-29 right this is exactly what I’m thinking, even if it’s expensive and I have to work for it I want the option
For real your ship has a jump drive that moves you between timelines, why not give them the ship they jump with for NG+?
I just want better space travel.. anything to make it more immersive
Space races through asteroid fields or gas clouds like that crimson fleet mission. Space walking or crashing into planets and having to either get resources to fix your ship or hijack one that lands or get a ride with them.
I wanna walk around the ship while in grav drive while taking hits of aurora and looking out the window
@@Jrizzle-bn1dusounds boring, I’d rather get to my destination after a 2 second loading screen
Yeah agree. There should be an option to not use Fast Travel.
Add realistic travel between planets and solar systems. Allow us to walk inside the ship and do stuff when the ship is in Hyperdrive. Add random events when u r in Hyperdrive. Get hailed by allies, Get SOS calls that lets you get out of hyperdrive and alter the course to the new Objective, Let your 'science officer' do long distance scans and find interesting stuff which may change your plans. Star Trek memories.
This will make inter-system or intra-system travel more unpredictable.
@@magickaddictrealistic travel between planets would take lifetimes to travel to. You dont want realism, you want immersion. Flying between systems at hyper speed and manual landing.
I'd like to see more NG+ varieties, maybe one where the UC won the war and the Freestar Collective is in shambles or vice-versa. Stuff like that.
shattered space?
I would like it if after we beat the game there’s an option to pick what NG+ universe you want to play in, but still have the random option for those of us that want to be surprised
Yea, agreed. It's cool to see how the world is different, but by and large, things are pretty similar. It'd be a huge HUGE cost, but it would be cool if there were more substantial variations.
They need to put resources in other areas and forget about the ng+ imo
If they allow us to have class m ships
Id be happy
I want a class m ship that i can use in Battle and doc to use my mobile player home and base of operation
I was so unhappy with FO4 until Far Harbor released.
I hope Shattered Space does the same for me with Starfield.
I'm part of the collective who enjoyed FO4, but found Far Harbor just ok.
@@DV-ou1yuits because far harbor is better written and intriguing story
@hehe234haha9 Not only that, the environment was more interesting to explore. Less of a goofy cartoon than The Commonwealth.
@hehe234haha9 I think far harbor compliments the main story more rather than it being better but the choices were better
@@DV-ou1yu really? I actually liked FO4 as well but I think Far Harbor was easily the best aspect of that game.
I played the shit out of starfield.
Got a sweatshirt and a little notepad too.
Don’t care, I liked it, and hopefully this will make it better.
Honestly, I liked it more than Fo4. Everyone on youtube enjoys mocking it but I enjoyed it as well.
People like to follow the consensus a lot. Starfield has it's issues, but a lot of the comparisons I saw were rather disingenuous. For example, some of the comparison videos I saw were of aiming guns at npcs and them not reacting, and comments saying it wasn't immersive, but that's been a thing in bethesda games since forever. Even the beloved fallout new vegas is like that. To be clear, this specific example isn't immersive however I never saw that criticism when fallout 3, skyrim, and fallout 4 released. People were sparking a cyberpunk level of hate towards it which I never understood.
And this is coming from someone who never even finished the game cause the 30fps was making me dizzy. I'll definitely be playing and finishing the game if this update fixes that.
Same. I played for 120 hours and I'll go back for the expansion
I loved it, haven't touched it in months but I absolutely love the world and the story. However the game is in its current state very lacking. And I'd be more upset if Bethesda just gives up on it. It deserves more content
People just love to hate Bethesda tbh
I really loved Starfield. I did took a break from it not because of anything bad, I was getting burnt out because I played it too much lmao. But I think it's a fun game. I see videos of people walking on moons, moons.. moons with no oxygen and complain about it being empty. So a lot of complaints were because people were going to the wrong places. Either accidental or purposely.
Same dude i was 640 hour in a was like right im done for now
@kevinlist3330 sameeee. It was so much, but once this update releases I'll definitely jump back in though.
@@infintebruh007 i might wait for shattered space because i got a lot of games to check out first so im excited but i want to play a brand new playthrough with all the updates and DLC
I really really enjoy Starfield, but I still have not beaten it yet because I have been waiting for these sort of updates to happen. I agree with you Matty, that I believe they will be consistently coming out with big updates each month leading up to shattered space. So I believe this is a great time to jump back into the game. I always tell people that five years from now, this game will be completely unrecognized
It shouldn’t take 5 years to make a game good that should’ve been complete when it launched.
I told people the same thing. Look what happened with CyberPunk. It’s sadly not worth buying games like these on day 1.
I hope it’s not completely unrecognizable. I like what the game is now.

60fps performance mode genuinely made me consider buying the game now. Also, land vehicles coming should make the experience less of a hiking simulator.

If you think 60 frames and a buggy are gonna fix Starfield, you're just the kind of sucker Todd dreams about 😂

I’ve got a lot of hope for starfield. Not because I liked it. But because I want Bethesda to have more good unique ips
Starfield have a very Unique theme going with the Nasa Punk and I think Emil did a good job Establish a standout IP. All of Starfield problem come from the gameplay and techn issue so geniunely don't know why he's the one that got all the blames. The only thing I don't like about the theme is the forced PG-13 part with way less gore and dark stuffs than all their previous title.
I like where your heads at.
Alot of ppl need these mindsets for say companies that are just there game like square and FF or Activision and cod. And Nintendos whole portfolio. New ips is what pushes gaming foward with new and fresh ideas. And people need to understand that and push towards that more.
ship decorator was such a good call. having that baseline in game gives a lot more options for ship mods.
This update is looking really solid. This is the kind of communication I've been waiting to see from BGS about this game all along. People were dead set on thinking BGS was going to cancel support for this game after Shattered Space, but I never thought that at all--this game has too much potential and potential $$$ to be made on DLC for them to dip after the first expansion. I think this update shows they are committed to making the game great and supporting it over the long term, and I'm here for it.
Honestly ground vehicles (coming in the next update) better exploration with more varied POI's and more side missions and activities (coming in an upcoming update) is all the base game needs now just release the Creation Kit for modders and let them have a field day with the game adding other immersion things like ship autopilot for "seamless" (in system) space travel options and the game reviews would change drastically.
The Creation engine is amazing in its flexibility to be honest I have limited mod creation experience in it but enough to know.... honestly people doubting that things like vehicles were possible probably did not know that modders have added drivable cars in Fallout New Vegas that handle pretty well and even have interiors and that AI can use as well.... that is how much one could customize the older version of the engine.
How could they cancel support they have nothing else out and won't for a significant amount of years.
Great shill comment 😂

This is great! I liked Starfield at launch but I have been waiting for a big update like this before I returned to it.
The Mechs and Xenowarfare are illegal in Starfield. But you can technically do Xenowarfare with the xenosociology skill, so I think it would make sense to let us pilot Mechs as well.
At the very least something small like one of the power armors from Fallout 4 would have been great.
I feel like Starfield had a great foundation. There was something there. Though critical of it, i beat it like 5 times to progress my Starborn status for the hell of it lol, but it felt so hollow overall. I'm happy to see SOMETHING after all this time. I'm rooting for a No Man's Sky level redemption arc lol.
If Bethesda knows what's good for their image they'll continue to work on this game past Shattered Space, i enjoy the game already but imagine if Starfield got insane post launch support improving on the worst aspects of the game overtime

@@Chris-yv2iv I'm going to wade into this mess and likely make a fool of myself. Anyways. @towlie4029 was simply making an observation which I generally concur. Starfield is a game where you quite literally go to a thousand randomly generated planets and delve through the *exact* same like 20 dungeons (identical up to enemy and loot placements for kris sake) over and over again. To enjoy that for 250 hours means at some point in time you must have just zoned out and hit the grind without thought. I'm not hating, whatever floats your boat- it's *your* downtime after all. But why get so defensive and say what we write as "hate"? My first rpg was a Bethesda rpg, which has become by far become my favorite genre. Many of us were left lacking by Starfield. It comes down to issues mentioned above. And at least imho the writing was weak as well. Especially in a year which saw releases like BG3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
All I want to know is will the vendors have enough credits to actually buy my loot without having to wait days for the credits to restock

Exactly. Very similar to Cyberpunk in that sense. Probably wasn’t truly ready for prime time, but it was good enough bug wise that they released it. To be honest, Im excited, hope they can keep bringing more stuff like this!
They need to add more usable and interactive objects in build mode
Those game mode sliders look awefully familiar. Oh wait, I know why... they are more or less the same sliders/options that I coded into Advanced Needs (custom survival mode) for Fallout 4. :D
Love Andreja. She's the only companion in SF for me that comes close to the quality of Bethesda's best companions in past games. Apparently her voice actress was originally going to be one of the voiced protagonists before they ditched the idea.

Will your ship interior designs reset when you make a change in ship builder mode? Everything would go to storage if you even changed the colour of a single hab.
The non-persistent universe is what kills it to me. Back in my 1st playthough I had a "pitstop" to store all illegal stuff in a empty station (the 1st station your dock actually) to discover few hours later that it reset at ont point and all my stuff were gone. Really sad to see. Because persistent was the big thing about creation engine. Not anymore I guess.
They really needed to have handmade stuff on 3-4 planets then go full radiant quests with the rest. As soon as you finished the main quests there is not insentives to redo the game. Because you know You discover all the stuff in the 3 main cities (well 2 cities and 1 village).

Yeah, we’re getting all this stuff we should have gotten on day one, but I imagine no matter what happens, 90% of the Starfield universe is randomly generated stuff that often disappears after a couple days. What is the point of getting a vehicle to travel faster between two unimportant random locations that may or may not even stick around more than a couple days? Skyrim and Fallout 4 may be old at this point, but at least you can go back and revisit old locations and even sometimes make use of them if you want.
I have been checking out the beta on Steam. Can confirm, the interior decorating mode for ships includes the Starborn ships. It doesn't look like you can place ladders or doors. it does look like you can place furniture, decorations, and displays. This looks to work even in 1x 1 habs. Also you can place a bounty cleaning terminal as well. The empty habs seem to keep the bathroom & beds built into them, as well as, any passenger capacity (like in all in one hab).

None of the issues starfield has are “made up”
I really hope they added the option to set hab connections - doors and ladders. If you care about the interior layout, the complete nonsense of the game's linking system severely limits the entire structure of your ship. You can't connect multiple modules together in a tight cluster without creating a winding labyrinth of silly pathing that will inevitably attempt to remove all bathrooms from your ship. I don't want to furnish a maze.
I love the addition of fps modes with dynamic range, it’ll be nice when I play on my ps5 pro

Who cares? A little to late.. there's gonna be a tiny minority that will return to this mediocre game at this point.
Starfield 2023 was never going to be the finished project. It was always talked about being the starting point of a generational game. Todd and Bethesda envisioned Starfield to live on for a decade + with many additions and most importantly, MOD support. What you are seeing with this update is the beginning of those massive influxes. Starfield 2023 was a great base game and I personally loved it. But even I could see the relatively blank slate that was available to them to build onto. Get hyped people because this game is only going to get better and better from here on out. I fully expect many more companion/romance options to be added in the future as well. Many more side quests and new factions. As we saw in Matty's breakdown at the end, it looks like a Bounty faction will happen. Sure, there's bounties right now, but an actual faction with a hideout, much like the Dark Brotherhood is definitely needed. People want to play as the Mandalorian, might as well make that fully able.
The one thing I am super pumped about is the in-ship customizations. I've researched so many Habs to figure out which one I liked the best because I enjoy walking throughout my ship... A LOT. So very pumped to finally see this become a reality.
Ugh, forgot to include that the additions to Unity were 10000000% needed. I think everyone mentioned it the first time through unity. It will cause replayability to increase exponentially. Not only that, but it should have been with the base game because it 100% fits the narrative. It was very odd that they shoe-horned players into playing the exact same character when everything was shouting. NEW.
Why do i have to wait so lomg for them to give the game they promised lol. I would be ok if they didnt promise so much before release. Glad were getting a mini map for sure but its nothing to praise to the heavens. All because most games today do this and more without waiting months

I went back to fallout 4 and 76 after watching the TV show and then jumped back into Starfield to test out the beta and I agree…I was blown away by how good everything looked and how your character moves. Lifting yourself over ledges when jumping to them has been a game changer for me that I missed when playing the fallouts
I wish they'd add some options to just purchase pre-set furniture layouts for your purchased homes. I don't like having to gather materials and craft and place all the furniture myself for homes that I'm buying in an already settled city with lots of people in it. Like, I would think any city would at least have a furniture store so I don't have to handcraft it all myself. Think I'll see if I can send the suggestion to Bethesda actually.
The camera option finally fixed the issues i was having with “all that money can buy”. When speaking with Walter at the end end, the camera would hang and nothing would happen which was bricking the game.
The addition of a vehicle will be excellent. It puts POIs back on the menu. I’ve never wanted to run 1000 meters to another POI on a barren planet just to see what’s there. Not worth it, but now this will change that.
Love the idea of being able to tweak so many individual settings tbh. I’ve always wondered why more games didn’t allow you to toggle a lot of that stuff.
The assets on the Shattered Space screen have visible names that are all labeled as Varuun. So looks like Matty got his wish, it's a Varuun focused DLC.
Todd : 16 times
Real : bruh
The text which is briefly on screen during the DLC tease in the video references Va'ruun. Shattered Space will bring in House Va'ruun.
I like what they’re doing. I hope the game takes off again with the expansion. I haven’t played it in months since I put like 100 hours into it which is a lot for me, I rarely reach that number. Even New Vegas was a 30 hour play through for me. I’ll definitely come back with the DLC, I loved Starfield it was very fun. Yes, it had its flaws but it’s far from a bad game and I think it was over hated, maybe because it was Xbox exclusive idk but I think it’ll be remembered fondly with more updates and mod support
Hopefully we can move the ladders in our ships and that they offer customization for the buggy
It’s awesome to see starfeild news it’s been so long it really is a great game
Thx. Glad I found your channel. Excellent overview of the update.
Just in time for when I'm almost done linking all of my outposts to produce vytinium fuel rod.
Artifacts temple gameplay loop needs a rework.
Inventory management needs an update (on xbox you have to click so many buttons to get to an item in Aids)
I understand NG+ is a fresh start but having to rebuilding outposts suck, rebuilding a ship sucks, and now refurnishing a ship will suck when losing it in NG+. A preset template we can save would be a great QoL.
I suggest you give the outpost building a shot. It's really impressive. You can make structures super tall with amazing views. That's what I'm doing right now on my first playthrough. There's even a zoom the camera out option, so you're looking top down like Sim City or something.
Word. The ship interior designer is gonna be clutch
They should add in a reward system for picking out your difficulty settings so every NG+ rewards you bonus stuff if you complete each run under specific conditions (like speedrunning gets you one unlock, 100% all questlines and factions is another unlock, getting all ship parts is another unlock, collecting every type of weapons is another unlock)...
When you unlock new content, instead of starting with nothing, you get more Starborn exclusive stuff like weapons, powers, blueprints, ship designs, and such. And each NG+ start, you can toggle these bonuses on or off, as they give you benefits, but also add new threats to the universe.
Boosting your ships with new ship part content, creates new anomalies in space which leads to new creatures and hostile threats that scales to your ship.
Boosting your combat with new weapon content, creates new enemy variants, and being randomly harassed by assailants from another universe.
Boosting your base building content, creates a new faction that stems from a Starborn pirate fleet, who invades your universe and takes over the vacant star systems around the universe.
Boosting Starborn content (to 100% powers), unlocks a multiverse rift you can access a hub for your base, starborn shopping, and ship needs.
I love Starfield but I recognize the game launched with several issues and some disappointing features. I've been keeping an eye on these updates and how Starfield gamers review them, with this next big update and vehicles at the horizon... man, Shattered Space DLC is going to be the next Phantom Liberty!
Lol no it wont.
Check how Fallout 76 is doing and its reviews on Steam, Matty is more than right to say Bethesda stick with their products and make them better, they have the resources now.
I dont see why Shattered Space isn't going to be the turning point for this game, Im pretty sure people at Bethesda and XBoX really want to change the narrative about this game and they are clearly working hard on it.
What was so fucking annoying about carry weight in this game is that it was considerably less than Skyrim. Skyrim was 300 default and Starfield is………145???? And when this game is their most complex and intensive with resources etc.?
I know they said they couldn't do it because of how the engine works but if they could make it like no mans sky where you can fly anywhere you want. Even if it was only open space travel and loading between space and worlds, that would add so much immersion to the game I could play it for hours.
I really enjoyed Starfield, but there were a lot of little things that made the game less enjoyable. Most of those issues were related to menus and the worlds being difficult to navigate. This update is taking a huge step in the right direction!
I plan to load the game up again when Shattered Space drops. Knowing that I'll have all these updates and months of work put into it, the potential is definitely there for it to be a dramatically improved experience.
This is the update I've been waiting for to jump back in.
guess you were wrong matty, we shouldve expected big things from these updates cause god dang this is what starfield desperately needed
As someone who loves Bethesda but hasn't played Starfield yet, I actually have high hopes for the expansion and updates. I didn't play Cyberpunk 2077 until 1.6 and it's in my top 5 games ever, so I can't wait to play the version of Starfield that's ready. Yeah, it kind of sucks that certain games aren't released at the optimal quality, but it is what it is.
I wish they'd remove or add an option to remove the level requirements for space ship parts, and instead just make them more expensive if they need to be artificially harder to obtain. I dont mind some of them being locked behind perks, but it would be nice to see the entire array of what you can buy from the get go
Holy shit thank god for the performance update. I literally stopped playing the game at launch because the 30fps was making me dizzy and I was actually enjoying the gameplay otherwise. Hopefully it's stable enough. I don't expect a constant 60 but I just don't want to feel sick while playing anymore man
Idk it feels like they’re still in “make this game less bad” mode rather than “make this game good” mode.
For example like, the land vehicle is cool! But also, it’s functionally just a way to make the game less tedious.
Instead of walking across an empty planet with almost nothing to do, now you can drive across an empty planet with almost nothing to do.
Which IS better, but still isn’t good
These look like awesome QoL improvements. I'm praying that the first DLC adds new exploration elements to all the random planets and makes exploration of these planets less dull. It would also be cool if you could set up settlements and attract people to your planet. It would make the world feel more lived in.
