Establishing Hierarchy and Control: Mike also intends to teach Jesse the importance of respecting hierarchy and processes, even when they seem pointless. Jesse needs to understand that he won’t always be the "main player" and that following orders is essential in an environment where impulsivity can be deadly.
Assessing Jesse’s Behavior: Mike and Gus are considering whether Jesse can be trusted and if he can adapt to a more stable, responsible role. This "test" allows Mike to observe how Jesse handles routine, which reveals significant aspects of his personality.
Gus’s Psychological Play: Gus wants to see how Jesse reacts to the experience and whether he will start respecting the structure and leadership of Gus and Mike. It’s a calculated move to determine if Jesse can be a useful, obedient asset within the operation.
