@@SeizeJapanese yes I am learning how to read and write so with all of that effort, as I learn how to speak, I can’t help but want to know how to have proper pitch accent. I am an all or nothing kind of guy. I know it will take me many years but that’s ok with me because I enjoy it.

If you want to speak Japanese more natural, I recommend mastering it. If you want to speak Japanese just understandable, you don't need it.
