Oh there’s some definite sucky guitars and basses out there 😆😆😆 It’s amazing what a good set up can do,as well as a fresh set of appropriate (?) strings and a good amp-sometimes makes all the difference in the world!
Right, because they know what they're doing at Norm's and are in the business of NOT bringing garbage back to the store. Often people who laud capitalism have no idea how it actually works.
Such a tasty bass and great demo from Greg! I concur with everything Greg said about the Telecaster Bass. I love my '75 Telecaster Bass for all the same reasons! Bag of hammers!!
These basses WOOF! I think Michael Anthony used one of these in the very early days of VH, he’s a scary little fkr on bass too. This was the first three bolt instrument. The Jazz basses didn’t get a three bolt neck until late ‘74.
It's great to hear Greg do the basses. No knock on Sir Lemmo, but Greg is a BASS PLAYER. He plays like a bass player. So good to hear. --- This is a second edition Telecaster bass. When they first brought out the model it had the same singlecoil pickup that the original P bass had... looks like a 4 pole telecaster guitar pickup. With the slab body, the big pickguard and the headstock it was a sorta reissue of that first P bass. But then they changed the pickup to that big widerange humbucker. i've got a "Pawn shop series" Mustang bass with something thatr looks like this pickup and it's the loudest damn bass i've ever owned.
We're thankful for GotD and "our boy" Greg Coates!!! And everyone at Norms. Happy Turkey Day🦃 from 🇨🇦 "Sounds like a bag of hammers, looks like a Corvette!" 🤣
You should try to find an old Japanese copy of these. I just got one for $80. That’s not the typical price but they’re definitely cheaper than a vintage American bass and they’re just as good.
Wow Greg, you are a stunning player! Your rhythm and creativity keep amazing me. And what a bass, almost sounds like you're playing through a distortion pedal! Mighty sound!
@@gregcoates4281 Maybe, your playing merits them. It was really fun to hear someone play such a rare instrument like they'd actually played bass in a band before rather than only knowing bass guitar playing from seeing it on the internet.

195 mph in a 87 corvette once 135 on a Honda 750 V four (they did not tell me the Honda was turbo charged it almost shot out from under me) Some people say my amp is too loud, maybe I have damaged my hearing, you can feel it and its fun to watch things vibrate when I play ... Happy Thanksgiving! Beautiful instrument. I'm kind of an old guy and I own a few vintage fender jazz and P basses, love em, pre 74. I know the Jazz basses received a micro tilt adjust, 3 bolt neck with bullet truss rod in 1975. I thought that was new in Fender at that time. Which inspires me to ask, the 3 bolt neck and bullet truss rods were originally on telecaster basses several years before they were used on jazz basses? Or is this bass possibly newer than 71? I think it might be, but I have no idea. Thanks..
Microtilt first appeared on Strats, the Telecaster Custom, Telecaster Thinline, and Telecaster Bass in the later part of 1971. '74 might have been the year it appeared on the Jazz Bass. It never appeared on the Precision or the "standard" Telecaster.
@@inversion66 Yes, that’s why I was confused, I know the micro tilt feature didn’t appear on the jazz bass until 75 and 74 was the last year of 4 bolts CBS jazz basses. I know that feature was never on the P bass as well, but I wasn’t aware it was on other instruments before the jazz bass in 75. Being the owner of several vintage jazz and P basses. Good info. Thanks.
Second version of the Tele Bass , first version with single coil pickup was Fenders first ever reissue like a 51-55p-Bass. I don’t think that is a 71. You need to check the pots for the correct date if they are original. The neck code is not necessarily the date it was made.
By '71 the paints were that super thick polyester that shattered like glass. This was definitely a repaint. Plus the neck pocket area has big gaps from the sloppiness of that era. Good fenders especially nowadays you can hardly slip a sheet of paper in any gaps. I'll give ya $600 for it Norm or did Bonamassa already offer $4k?
I'm thankful that Greg is back 🙌 🙏
Greg is one Good Dude!!!🤘🏼👍👊
Would L O V E this Bass!!
No one ever says this guitar or bass sucks. It’s always great.

Nah the sucky bass honor goes to the EB-0 lmao, which are pretty cool basses in their own right.
Such a tasty bass and great demo from Greg! I concur with everything Greg said about the Telecaster Bass. I love my '75 Telecaster Bass for all the same reasons! Bag of hammers!!
Welcome back, Greg!
That dude is so talented and knowledgeable. Love seeing artist who actually know what they are doing! Great stuff
Greg, glad you're not too busy to do a GOTD for us. Awesome thumpin'!
Always great to see and hear Greg. Such a wonderful musician.

Damn, I don't know if this one was mic'd better, or if it has a more efficient pickup, but this one sounds great. Great demo, Coates!
Amp was loud and I was playing hard, that bass seemed to respond best under those conditions⚡️👊🏾👊🏾⚡️
Happy Thanksgiving ya all. It sounds
SWEET.....
After a simple Google search there is. Russ Cole out there whose been a sound engineer for 35+ years. 🤔
Unique is right. If never seen anything like it. Cool AF. Before shielding tape was a thing.

I'd definitely buy a reissue of this bass if Fender made one.

And you could use to paddle the Queen Mary 🛳
Nice playing man! Would love to have that tele in my collection
It’s an absolute BEAST,lotsa miles left on that thing,REALLY dug playing it.
It helps when I get to set them up before I demo them.

Man I just love the Telecaster basses! They look cool and sound amazing! However! Gotta do a Maton!
Can’t wait to play a Maton, love their guitars I’ve played!

Second bass riff had some serious Wurli vibes at the beginning.
That hum when it cuts to Greg on the couch let's you know you're about to get your ears assaulted.
👌
Happy Thanksgiving Norm! You Turkey 🦃…
Jack Bruce vibes here. Needed to play som Cream.
TRUE-was kinda stuck in a Small Faces head there for a bit,but yeah Cream would be sick on that bass!!!
Greg puts on a great "stank face"!
This bass sounds like Grand Funk Railroad's bass!

I don’t know if it’s the playing or the instrument that sounds better
I think you know the answer
Surprisingly inspiring bass, would play that thing in a heartbeat!
I thought fender didn't switch to the 3 bolt neck plate and bullet truss rod until 1974
Yeah,ya got me 🤷🏼
It’s an odd bird,but it’s dope!!!

I much prefer Thumpin Thursdays without Agnesi

6 minutes into a 9 minute video and we finally get to hear it. Disappointing actually...much rather a Peavey T-40 (".)
What kind of asshole makes his employees work on Thanksgiving?
Talk more, play less. We want to hear two guys saying shit and testing any instrument.
yuk sound
Sound awfull…
So glad!!!
The skid row look isn't working. Try a shower, shave and a comb would do wonders.
Didn’t know this was a fashion show…?
I showered and drove with my windows down.
Sorry my tux was getting dry cleaned…
What’s wrong with you, man? Dude’s just played some mean bass riffs and the only thing that you could think about is his looks?
