    Hi, first of all amazing work on this model. I really love it ! During your painting process I saw that you use a darker and lighter tone, can you tell me witch paint you used for the light and dark tone ? Thanks in advance.

      Hi Jens, thank you very much for your comment! The used colors are simply mixed tones with the ijn Grey, I probably mixed in some white for the lighter tone and some black for the darker tone. I hope this helps :)

    Stunning Werk!....LOVE the verdigris finish!....Thats a fun one to practice with. Verdigris is a great technique for larger home decor faux finish painting projects too (Painting Contractor for most of my life)
    Q: -Did the Kriegsmarine use copper sheathing (Or alloy of a sorts) on the outer hulls to assist with reducing seaborne corrosion/galvanic electrolysis?...I dont know a whole lot about the KM branch & their Subs, kinda solely focus on WW2 German armor myself...

      Thank you very much again! And as for your question about the Kriegsmarine, yes, as far as I know alloy was was used on the outer hulls of some German naval vessels, including submarines, during World War II! :)

      CuNi...-Cupro Nickel...
      ~Copper, nickel & brass alloy. Cheaper than pure copper sheets for vessel cladding & additionally resistant to corrosive effects of salt water, electrolysis & sea water borne boring critters. More nickel in pure color upon initial roll-mill refinement/manufacturing, but gaining an oxidized verdigris finish @ extended exposure, favoring the oxidation properties of copper itself (What Ive read @ least)

      Sadly, it's unrealistic. This kind of weathering would mean years at sea. Most of the boats didn't survive more than a year or two so they never even got much more than surface rust.

      Hello, Thank you for your kind words :). For the chips I used the same tamiya which I used for the airbrush-paintjob. But i mixed them to receive lighter and darker versions of the base tone. I did this because it is important that the chips are matching with the basetone. For the Rust i used an Revell emailcolor :). And for the saltwater and algae effect i used oil paints. If you have more questions, feel free to ask them here in the comment section :)

      OK :),, then,, workflow,, acrylic rust spray (I dont have airbrush yet) , on rust Ill aply chipping medium,, then dark grey spray on torso and tanks,, soft grey on board and upper bottoms. Make chipping. Use gloss varnish. Then Ill use rust acryloc color with small brush on details,,, black and rust wash.... Semi matt varnish .. On it will go oilbrushers from MIG.. Then Ill fit decals and gloss varnish again,,,? Did I forget or miss something? Any special thinner or something like that?? :)

    I just bought this model and came across your ace videos of building - and especially weathering - it. Can't start to say how impressed I am with your work. This will be a great help as I try to get my own one built.
    One question, if you don't mind, that I have after watching this is that you seem to have a book as sort of a guide in the 'Creating Chips' section. What book is that? I'm looking for some guides on how to weather/chip etc so any recommendations is greatly appreciated.

    Your weathering seems a little bit excessive. The boats underwent regular maintenance between patrols. I’m afraid boatswain would be courtmartialed for such a negligence. Algae growth in Northern Atlantic’s cold waters would also be limited. Is there a reason your anchor is upside down?

    • @ModeliteDiorama
      @ModeliteDiorama  2 роки тому +5

      Thank you for your comment :). And yes you are right, the weathering ist excessive but as I wrote in the description, my primary goal was to build a heavily weathered "Das Boot" instead of 100% correctness. I hope this will not end up at the court-martial :D. And the anchor is a mistake :D.

    99% of the time, the parts must be cut from the sprue and filed thoroughly as they suffer from flush or sink marks definitely the screws are one of these!.

    Good evening. Excellent job first of all! I got this model as present from my wife and since I haven't tried this for more than 20 years, this is basically my first assembly! I have a few questions:
    1. What material did you use for the capacitors? I am thinking of creating the cord out of thread not wire. You think this would work?
    2.For the painting, since I do not own an airbrush, I bought the basic colors in spray cans. Any suggestion?
    3. For the weathering I think I will buy Revell's 6-piece weathering set for the rust mostly.
    4. In 18:19 how do you wipe this black wash?
    Thank you in advance for your reply and thank you for your video!

    • @ModeliteDiorama
      @ModeliteDiorama  2 роки тому +1

      Hello, Thank you very much for your kind words! :) And nice, I wish you much success with this great model!
      1. Yes, I think this should work. But there are also great rigging products available like the rigging from Ammo Mig. For the capacitors, I used a glue mass similar to a putty mass.
      2. Yes, please use the cans only outside with a respirator and since these cans give off a lot of paint within a short time period, you should feel your way and always spray only briefly and evenly, and it is better to spray onto the model from too far away at first than to apply too much paint directly and too close.
      3. Ah nice, but this weathering set consists of pigments. I personally would start with acrylic paints for the chipping and rust and washes first. I think this would be easier. :)
      4. I think I used a cotton swab or a normal cloth. Since the washes need a long time to dry, it worked that way. Otherwise, you can also use enamel thinner to distribute or remove too much wash. :)

      When I was a flight student in the Naval Aviation Training Command 50 years ago, one of my fellow student's father was the sailor who jumped aboard the U-505 and shut off the scuttle valve that the German crew had opened to sink
      the boat. It was saved and we can now see it in Chicago. I've been on board. I think it is a Type VII boat. Very neat.
