I don't think you need to remove the rocker panel to remove the emblem. These emblems are held in by whats called a blind push nut. They will pry out. Also 1983-87 use the same gold color rocker emblem, GM# 20554149 stripe code 53A on the '83-'86 cars, 49A for 1987.
