- By using a password, you can easily protect your files and folders in Windows. This in-built feature is not available in Windows Home Edition. Follow these steps to protect your files and folders.
1. Open File Explorer.
2. Locate your file on your PC that you want to protect.
3. Right-click on the file, and from the menu list, click on the Properties.
4. In the General tab, click on the Advanced button.
5. Under the Compress or Encrypt attributes section, check the box of Encrypt contents to secure data.
6. Click on the OK button.
7. Click on the Apply button.
8. A pop-up of Encryption Warning will appear, select the radio button of Encrypt the file only.
9. Click on the OK button.
10. Again, Click on the OK button to close the Properties.
11. You will notice a lock icon at the top right of your file, this means your file has been protected with your Windows Admin password.
12. Similarly, you can Encrypt a folder that is containing important files.
13. If you want to remove the protection from a file or folder, then right-click on your protected file or folder.
14. From the menu list, click on the File ownership and then click on the Personal sub-menu.
15. This will remove the protection and see the Lock icon has been disappeared from the folder.
Hope this was easy. Have a nice day!

what is the point of encrypting if i can just right click it and turn it off without the admin password.....
that's what I was about to say
Yes
Lmao now if you see at someone's files a lock just simply disable it hahaha
We'll you can only unlock it without a password as an administrator, so if your on the same acount then yeah, it's pointless
True
what is the benefit of that type of encryption if anyone can decrypt it without password
Excellent question. Whoever made this mediocre video didn't bother to SHOW the protection in action. SHM.
Just create a long password.
I can't believe it. This video looks from the 90s! ❤
Very simple. It is a household computer so the computer isn’t under my name so locking it with the admin. wasn't useful. I wish you could just lock the folder and be prompted for a password or pin to open it! If you know how to do this, please inform me!
@Nature story yes, I know
At first i was rejoicing but then later im like OMG 😫 makes no difference.
i need this for my... "homework" folder
The title of the video says “How to PASSWORD PROTECT …” but the content only shows how to turn on encryption. Fix both. This was a waste of my time.
but this is not PASSWORD protected. password protec5ted means, password for every folders, 10 folders to be protected with 10 different passwords, this is same like hide and show
No password protection, everybody can open it and see what is inside the file!?!? This is Totally useless.
yeah same
Same
To protect against deletion
Cannot use your method on my window 11 as is blanked off for compress and encryption.😢
This video does not do a good job of explaining how to encrypt properly. This is why so many people are whining in the comments about still being able to access the file. It's because the KEY is still on your system when you ENCRYPTED IT!!! Export it to a thumb drive and then wipe the key(and certificate) off your system. You may have to clear cache aswell. Explaining this is far beyond these people's simple minds. Sad thing is it sounds like most of you just need separate users and files associated for what you all keep whining about, aka I need meh passwordddd. Again im not sure if these people could even handle something as basic as that. For the "geniuses " who say it is not highlighted he just said its not available in windows home only windows 10 PRO.
The encrypted content appears to be gray...
it does not even let me chech the box anyways
this is not password protected, still can be remove or deleted.
It is password protected from being opened.
I rlly think we meant was We need to put on our personal password to keep it secure.@@cruiserodgers6957
@@cruiserodgers6957 you can right click and remove it like nothing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

@@Alfiemonke Its not available in Windows 10 home

What is the point of this method? No password? Somebody else can still open my files.

Which apart of the demo did it shows password must be created to protect the folder?
What if the file is opened with the hard drive as a slave in another master drive? Will it still be restricted? And what if its on a thumb drive? thanks.
Now they'll never know.....

0:52 The option is grayed out. What should I do?
I had this problem too. Did you figure it out?
@@haydenscottvansteenburgh3416 Nope, let me know if you find a fix though
@@lcclive4937 This video is completely pointless, you can’t do this in HOME version. Only pro.

To protect from deletion
There is no advanced button under the general tab.
