O those blossom trees, the old buildings and sweet roads, let alone coffee and pastries, top it off with a drive through the beauty and romance, more good food and laughter. I’m so happy you take care of people around you, this comes from a place of compassion, love and sharing, it’s a standout over your years on our screens. Enjoy, I know you’ll have a wowser of a time. Chou!

In your wildest dreams as a kid, did you think life would be this full. Did you believe you would touch so many. Thank you. When your old and not traveling, you two can give tours of anything, I for one will believe what ever you show me or tell me about. These Sunday get togethers are always an eye opener to what the world has to offer and so refreshing.

Yup, Italy drives on the right as most of the countries that drive on the left-side of the road are former British colonies like India, the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Malaysia. There are exceptions though like Mozambique who despite being colonized by Portugal, drives on the left because they're surrounded by former British colonies, Indonesia drives on the left because the Dutch once did, and Japan does because of the position of a samurai's sword as they walked on narrow paths. Turns out Niccolò Machiavelli lived in San Casciano in Val di Pesa during his exile from Florence and it is there where he wrote The Prince and The Mandrake. The house is still owned by his family!

Sweden also drove on the wrong side of the road, until 1967, when they decided to drive on the right side of the road, like all European nations, except UK. The British however cheat: They also claim, that they drive in the right side, that being steering the car from the right side in the car.

I took my daughter to the Tower of Pisa years ago, she was 11 at the time. She was a bit dubious about going up and wanted to know how old it was. "Oh," I said, "it's been here for hundreds of years." She was happy with that. "Oh," she said, "it should stay up a day longer..." and galloped unconcernedly up the tower to the great bell on top.

Ah yes, an American touring an Italian factory while enjoying Nespresso made by Swiss-based Nestlé...Mr. Worldwide. The walls at 0:27 are quite impressive because San Casciano was once considered a strategic military outpost that protected the Republic of Florence from possible invasion from the Republic of Siena. Though it didn't always have these walls, they popped up in the 1400s when it was realized that San Casciano needed to be more well-endowed. But once peace was achieved, it lost the economic trade that it had because of its defense. Most of the place was destroyed during WWII, but it jumped back from this and rebuilt many churches and homes.
Before San Casciano in Val di Pesa, it was called San Casciano a Decimo during the Roman period! Decimo referring to it being at mile marker decimo on the Roman road between Florentia (now Florence) and Sena Julia (now Siena). Now it just references that it's in the valley of the Pesa River.

Of course my wife is already looking at Air Fares etc so we can visit him and experience Italy ourselves..

They may have said iron for the injection molds, but in fact they are steel, a subtle difference. Also, those automated vertical storage cabinets for more than 20 years, with the non-computer controlled much longer, at least in Germany. And speaking of groceries, there are multiple companies in the USA developing fully automated/robotic fulfillment warehouses across the country. But that being said, people are amazed when you tell them how many products, and how sophisticated the manufacturing is in the northern parts of Italy.

It's generally less about social responsibility, more to do with common business sense and being competitve. The plastics industry has been using granulators and regrind material ever since day one around 70 years ago to save money / improve profits. Solar in factories is often a result of government incentives, tax breaks etc.

Looks amazing as always. Been watching a guy named Peter Zeihan (global strategist/demographer) for a while, and one of the things he said in his books, multiple times, is how advanced in manufacturing northern italy is. Like souther Italy, basket case at times. Northern Quote "More advanced than Japan in some places/ways" Thought that was pretty amazing.
Sorta same with in the factories that you're touring, and how the robotics are great for specific jobs, but still take a lot of good skilled people. Let alone the programming for a single robot for a job

Love pop up beds! First experienced this format in my 1973 VW Westfalia, learning that nothing matches the experience of getting the bed-space out of the already cramped van environment, and then - this is the best part - waking to the sunrise, in a free-air breeze with the view and security that comes from sleeping on top of your vehicle. Priceless - every morning.

It's a generalization, but one reason why there's vastly more manual vehicles in Europe than the USA is because many more people tend to look on driving as a recreation and leisure activity than just for utility when compared to the USA where public transport and walking is a rarity. As such, when they choose a vehicle, it will typically be manual for a far more "in-touch" driving experience. It also helps that there are far more interesting roads and scenery within short distances where a driver can "drive" the car.
Personally, I own two very different cars, an automatic van and a manual convertible. I know which one I prefer driving.
There's also the fact that if you are driving anywhere off-road or in some tricky spot, a manual is so much more precise and easier to drive.

I’ll be glad to ride in the outside storage space!! I really like the RV the best. I live that the kitchen area doesn’t extend out into the doorway. That seems to be the growing theme for van conversions in the US. Whether done by professionals or done my Jack & Jill who got bored during the coronavirus lockdown and decided to build themselves a tiny home on wheels. I also like the back extending slide rather than side extension. I’m iffy on the dinette & the bathroom. Also don’t care for the tiny little refrig. Can you put solar on them? Looking forward to seeing your family. So glad your uncle is getting his dream trip! That is really exciting!!

American plastics manufacturers and injection molders do the same with all scraps. Nothing is tossed. Even if one company doesn't put it back into a process they will sell it to manufacturers like the one I worked for at a lower price to take through several processes. It goes from scrap to finished goods. Even that takes 6-8 different operations. Included scrap from inhouse injection molding done to test in the lab to ensure specifications are being met at every operation. I'm glad to see that's done in other countries as well. Typically places like I worked at are looked at as a recycled plastics manufacturer.

Nicki, Jason, for many a century sailors have had pesky problems with rats on board their ships eating their grain stores and leaving droppings. To control the rat population they introduced cats on board. They noted how sure footed cats can be in high sea conditions and how well they controlled the rats. I think you should have a cat on board your new vessel as a companion for your upcoming adventures. What do you say?

Pretty run of the mill stuff if any manufacturer in the world is going to have if they want to be competitive no matter what the industry/market is. @Željko Bradić No nonsense! In a manual transmission, the driver is responsible for shifting the gears, while in a vehicle with an automatic transmission, the car does the shifting for you. There is a level of control and involvement with manuals that makes shifting so much more engaging than automatic transmissions. It unlocks an entirely new world of driving. I liken the releasing of the clutch and the pushing of the gas pedal to a dance, intimately between the two. Giving your vehicle what it needs, when it needs it, and having it respond raises the satisfaction scale exponentially. Some people drive to get from place to place, while others drive for this type of pleasurable experience. Zoom! Zoom!

Your comments about rare manual transmissions in the US were interesting. There are lots of manual transmission vehicles in Canada. I've owned at least 17 vehicles and three have not had a manual transmission. Manual transmissions are handy for driving in snow and ice to slow down without using brakes.

Manual RVs are not common but manual cars and trucks are.

In the U.S., a manual transmission is known as a "millennial car thief deterrent" because most younger people don't know how to drive them. 😆

People are amazed I've been in my Lance 1081 for nearly 10 years. But that van is roughing it for me. I don't know if I could have dealt with a wet bath all these years. I'm sure I would have adapted, I'm just glad I didn't have to with the spacious dry bath I have. That "Shower"? Maybe for a parking meter. Not a normal land locked sized (Murican!) human. We tend to run in the larger sizes...
