    I love Philip Glass. That man is one of the greatest at using the zeroth note, silence. Classical minimalism all the way.

    Hearing the same thing twice and hearing him say, 'and so you hear the change' is predictably frustrating.

    I think accent and syncopation are modern words for misunderstood ancient terms like cantabile or prolation canon which was a contrapuntal device?

      Angry Face Yeah, my brain is different I guess. All the ticks sound identical.

    • @angryface7135
      @angryface7135 8 років тому

      Neceros You will feel it when you use the metronome to start something. you will decide what tick signals you to start and from that on, you will hear that tick as being the first.

  • @brucenatelee
    @brucenatelee 15 років тому

    So what exactly is syncopation and accent. Is the accent the sequence of repeated notes? Is syncopation the extra note that stays on key all the way? I don't understand music, and there's just way too much stuff with it. I just understand the dynamics (volume or pitch of sound)

    It's a change in the stressed beat.
    Normal beat: ONE two THREE four ONE two THREE four.
    Syncopated: one TWO three FOUR one TWO three FOUR
    Many rock songs are syncopated beats (listen in a rock song for the snare beat, its on the second and fourth beats)
    But that's only with drums. Syncopation is addition of extra sounds that are stressed

    At 2:20, that clock was just going 1, 1, 1, 1 to me... not 1, 2, 1, 2

    Its probably because you were concentrating on his voice. Try it on a real clock. It should sound like Tik, tok, tok, tok, Tik, tok, tok, tok. or Tik, tok, Tik tok. You should be able to switch between the two consciously as well.

      This might be a little 'out there', but you could download the video from UA-cam and toss into some software to slow it down a little. Something like Amazing Sldow-Downer, although I'm not sure if it supports video.

    • @BeanieBroadcast
      @BeanieBroadcast 10 років тому

      tbh it's not even clear what keys he presses. My ears are not trained, I don't play any instruments and this is fustrating. I can't even find any tutorials or sheet music. I just want the keys he uses! waaaaaaaaaaaaah

    • @EzyoMusic
      @EzyoMusic 10 років тому +6

      Please excuse my ignorance. I checked for you (I play various instruments and my ears are somewhat trained) and the melody is in Am. The bass note stays on A, so if we call that A, the rest is: A A' E'' A'' E'' A' (x2), A A' E'' F'' E'' A' (x2), A A' E'' G'' E'' A' (x2) if that makes any sense. The accents (') mean it's in a different octave. Hope this helps, good luck.

    I have greatly appreciated your videos on music and have recommended them to others but the statement you made "African musicians for thousands of years" cannot be validated in any way shape or form, unless "musician" means something totally different to you than it does to me and everyone else.
    The saying, "The Beatles had three musicians and a drummer" has often been voiced.

    The fact I have no idea what I want to be in your eyes are so many things I do it again I have a great way for me and I don't think that is not an issue with a lot more fun and addicting and I don't think that is not an issue with a lot more fun if you don't like it when you have a great way for you to do with my friends to play in a row of a new song and I don't have a great day and night in with me to do it all in my head room and
