When my husband and I started to redo our floors we ended up sitting in the corner and crying then......we called a professional and had beautiful floors without the red. Kudos to y'all for hanging in there. They are beautiful!
Awww… I could really picture you sitting in the corner crying …. I’ve had a few horrible projects myself - like stripping wallpaper - don’t want to ever do that again - lol - I can do some things, but I couldn’t do most of the things Andrea & her husband do - and I have never, unfortunately, had a husband or boyfriend who could -or would - do anything in the way of DIY !

The floors are just outstanding.
So much angst over the color! The floors look gorgeous! I definitely would not be sad about the color. My husband and I refinished the floors in our 1936 bungalow before we moved in 2 years ago (and we are in our 60s). Ours were in much worse condition than yours and had some stains that simply could not be removed. I am okay with that. They have scars and age spots just like we do. Embrace the imperfections and learn to love them. Once all of your furnishings and area rugs are back in place, your home will be beautiful and warm. Several coats of poly are a definite must. Otherwise, you will need to refinish them AGAIN in just a few years! You saved yourself thousands of dollars by doing them yourselves. Make yourself stop looking at them in such a critical way so that you can enjoy them. Blessings!❤

Shout out to you, your Hubs and dear mother for coming up with this hard won “get the red out” perfect recipe. I was down on my luck finding a solution to staining my new red oak staircase. When I ordered the oak, it wasn’t specified white or red and I was not well versed in the difference. Rude awakening. Lesson learned. My local Sherwin Williams trusted owner vehemently folded his arms across his chest and told me in no uncertain terms the impossibility and stupidity of my request. “CANNOT be done”! He pretty much kicked me out of his store for even asking! Lol! You saved me from my poor decision-making with your diligence, persistence and creativity and not to mention even filming the whole process so this gal in St Louis could benefit! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart❤

Andrea, thank you, thank you , thank you ! I also have red oak floors and hate the orange look of them. I have been trying to convince my husband to take a chance and refinish them. Your color find has saved me.

The floors look gorgeous. You guys did an amzaing job. I too have those oak floors and when they were redone I didn't want that red look either. My daughter found someones blog and the product the girl used is called Woca. It basically strips the floors down to raw wood and then you apply a coating on it and at first I hated it but once the floors were exposed to air for a while I love them. They are a swedish company I believe. They are not coated with verathane and you have to soap them every couple of weeks so they remain hydrated and keep that beautiful look.

Finding your video was much like getting a needle in a haystack. Our flooring project has been a nightmare which resulted in sanding the floors two times!!! I didn’t do testing, only going off stain samples. After initial application it looked amazing until it dried and I had a glorious orange floor which resulted in a very dated era. I cried and ate tons of chocolate snd Chinese food saying I’ll just have to live with this. After 24 hours I found myself going for round 3 renting all the machinery again, the costs of doing it “ourselves” has now exceeded having a professional do it. This is the lesson of trail and error and super grateful I stumbled upon your video where you walked me through all my concerns and gave me a cheat sheet to truly get those beautiful floors we’ve been wanting. Thank you is too little of a word but is mighty!
Although I could never do such an undertaking myself, I know there is such satisfaction in being able to accomplish this goal. You guys did a fabulous job and the floors are beautiful.
Andrea, Thank you! You saved me so much time, because we have the exact same floors and color that you had. We had 2 quotes and for a thousand square ft. it was going to cost 5,000. So, you save a lot of money. We are in our 60’s so I don’t know if we can tackle that big of a job, LOL. Your floors are beautiful! Thanks again!

What a beautiful labor of love! The trials and errors of stains. It always takes me a few tries to get it right also. The green stain makes sense to me as red and green mixed together make brown. Looks great!

Andrea sweetie - I love the color of your floors ! On camera they don’t look orange at all - they may be a little darker than you wanted, but unless you have like a beach house, I think a medium color “grounds” everything - they’re certainly not overly dark looking to me - and I don’t see any orange tones at all - you & your husband are quite amazing ! 🥰

Oh my goodness. I saw your old, orangish, floors and I have just about the same floors in my house. I do not like the warm color either. I recently refinished a coffee table and had the same problem. It would turn so warm even with a drop of water, so fortunately since it was just a piece of furniture I could leave it unfinished and place a piece of glass over it to keep that natural, light, wood color I love. Your floors are gorgeous now. You and your husband did a wonderful job!

Love the floor color. It really takes the orange/red out! I had the same issue with the water-based poly but was told it is so true it changed the color because it is water clean up. I, like you, didn't want to use the regular poly due to yellowing over time and I promise it does do that. I know how much work this is firsthand. Great job on the color. It's beautiful!

Super labor of love...im a hardwood floor guy. We put the stain on with a carpet pad on a buffer. We USED to put it on with brush, then follow up with "wax on wax off" thanks for sharing! Nice job!

YOU SAVED ME! I've just finished sanding all our red oak flooring and have tried every stain and stain combination without being able to hide the red/pink. Was about to bleach the wood (after hours and hours of research) and decided to do one more desperate search on youtube. Not only do I think what you did will work (I was aware of the green color being the neutralizer but wasn't sure what to mix it with and how much), your color is EXACTLY what I'm trying to achieve.
