Notes I thought I would test out since they were being asked a lot in the comment section!
1) More wheels does not seemingly have any effect on power generation
2) The hover glitch sadly does not make wheels generate power when flying, only when in contact with the ground like in the other tests.
3) As long as a wheel is touching a surface the dynamo will work, this means that a small tech inside of a flying tech with a wheel touching the flyer carrying it would be able to generate power!
How about trailer/towed techs? Mobile power for techs?

Join the TT Discord, we know exactly what variables have effects over the dynamo from looking at the code, and this helped creating some really broken stuff, like mobile flying techs that generate on the go using multitechs, or anchored dynamo rotors.

I think i use the resource radar and it worked once, but a very long time ago.

Make a tank or smth
Have a tech inside that tank, nothing but a cab, dynamos, wheel base, and some stuff to transmit that power out.
It could be glitchy though
This is the first thing I thought of haha this could completely change power generation
The issue here however is that the tech inside needs to be moving at minimum 20-25mph to transmit power, so even If It's wheels are constantly moving It would still need to be travelling at a certain speed and can't just run into the walls of the tank itself - Making it go in circles would work here, but the AI wouldn't do this naturally within the confined space as it would just try and go towards a target or follow the tank. So unless you can get the tech in the center to move faster than the tank itself or be constantly moving when the tank is not you may as well just add the generator to the tank main tech.
@@Lathland now this may sound silly but why not just use the dynamo as a building structure of the tech instead of the normal blocks
stuart pratt - Right now It's not craftable so It would be difficult to get enough in the campaign to use in that way, but also I'm assuming they are going to be quite expensive/difficult to craft when they are craftable! Other than that, no real reason not to outside of pretty poor connection points and maybe lower health?

Absolutely...but i do get why he isnt doing it anymore. Its been HUNDREDS of hours that we know of...and probably a thousand more we dont.
Since speed matters a bit with 1 dynamo, then multiple dynamos might be the way to go.
Yeah a week ago, before this was implemented, I built a plane for this. It had maybe 40-60 and if fliers worked I'd imagine that'd charge the Geo batteries I put on it

New test for Lathrix: does wheel type have an effect on the power generation?
if you're going 50mph using Geocorp tracks vs 50mph using GSO wheels, does it change the power output?

safe to assume that will be for venture since they are about movement, can't wait for it to be released for the standard build
I think these are good for the purpose of not always relying on the best hawk eye blocks and giant vehicles. You can now make a viable venture vehicle, or at least, far more so than without the dynamos.

You said it doesn't make sense while moving in the air, the model looks like it has edges to catch air, it would be interesting if there was an air variant thats like a propeller catching the wind
I'd be more than happy to see you do more of these science episodes, maybe a bit better structured, but otherwise very good
I dont mind little science videos like this. If you hadnt done the science i would have done it myself and no one else would know. You are educating your legion. XD
They may introduce a larger variants into the game, a medium and a large, they produce more power, but they won’t produce as much power at lower speeds. The small generator is good for small, slow-ish techs, while a large is for Sonic. Gotta go fast!
I always thought the dynamo would have been a wind powered type of generator. So if you move around it gives power. Also videos like this are fine been here a while and don’t mind watching a bit of different content whenever as long as it’s you making the content.

The Dynamo Generator looks like its meant for bigger techs that crawl on the ground. So they gain more battery once they start moving.
I wish the intake engines worked like jet engines in other games.
Takes a while to accelerate and decelerate, but incredibly powerful,fast and fuel efficient

Thing with it not scaling with speed extremely is that you can make a huge, very slow tank with dozens of these and still get good power generation.
20s when using 6 dynamos
135s when using 1 dynamo and traveling slightly faster. (2 minutes is 60x2=120s)
Assuming your 20s measurement was actually 22 or 23s, multiply by 6 and you get 132s or 138s respectively, which lines up pretty closely with the measurement. Being this close to exact makes it look like they scale linearly. I wonder if that continues regardless of number? 50 dynamo test at around 80mph to fill a battery in barely over a second?

Possibly the dynamo has a max limit to the power it can generate based on speed, it just can't convert the movement into energy fast enough

On slower techs try using an interior chamber, with an axel, that has a generator, and a wheel attached to, and use a liner engine thingy (that thing that makes techs go constantly at a speed) and let that thing go in circles inside the tech.
have you tried to gradually lower the speed to the minimum that charges the battery in 2 min?
have you tried if the hoverbug counts as a wheel on the ground?
The type of wheels is important when it comes to the amount of electricity generated

Just got an idea: a spinning battery charger that just spins having wheels touching the ground and batteries then at the same time having wireless chargers
So, what; get as fast of a vehicle as possible and slow it down by piling generators onto it until it's at the speed at which any increase in speed would be pointless? That's interesting to know; nice way to learn it as well.
Edit: might want to play around with having planes that have wheals that lower down to the ground and rase up into the vehicle, to give yourself some margen for error with how close you need to be to the ground to generate energy, and see what sort of energy production/combat drones you end up with; something that sort of glides quickly across the ground before flying out of range of any enemies and bombing the crap out of them upon finding any.

Venture batteries definitely hold more power and are less volatile than gso

Oh, the tech has to have wheels, I just thought that the Dynamo generator has been broken since its release.
You actually didn't count the fact that bigger wheels have a bigger surface area with the ground and generate much more friction.
I personally don’t mind when you make videos like this even if it just annoys me that they haven’t updated console terra tech with any of the new stuff I like seeing the science behind all of this

it is now time for a generator building, many dynamos strapped to a slowish wheelbase hooked around a pole inside. additionally, does it work if the wheels are in contact with blocks from another tech?

so basically it spins proportional to how fast your moving but can only spin so fast that is realistic so dose stacking
