My issue with the "lyrical rappers have a tough climb" statement is people like scru be hatin and abusing the term "lyrical miracle" to discredit people. Not every song needs to have some deep metaphorical meaning. Sometimes I wanna hear people flex their pen game
You might like Action Bronson. His raps are just raps, there isn't a story or deeper meaning really. His debut album was actually criticized for 'not having a theme'. Not everything needs a damn theme or story all the time
These rappers today don't have the sam hussle. All of the people you named had to hussle to move their demos, rap in lobbies or anywhere they could to get heard. It's not the same anymore.
Real hip-hop isn't in mainstream only em and a couple is keeping hip hop alive it's not what it used to be in the 80 and 90s rappers were various different unlike today
This is why I'm watching you. When this conversation happened, I wondered what your thoughts would be.. And I'm glad to see where you stand on this. Em doesn't owe anyone anything.
Not only does he not owe them anything, he’s the REASON they are POPULAR now…. The biggest issue with Gen Z is they have no respect, they’re entitled, and they don’t respect those who came before them If your song didn’t come out 5 minutes ago, they really dgaf
Eminem is the hip hop assassin. He listens to lyrics with admiration. He studies the game. That is the gist of it. He did a lot. It should inspire but people love to hate. That is foolish sometimes.
I hate when people act like they owed something… they should be respecting the fact that Em put Detroit on the map and continues to do that til this day… at his status he could be living anywhere in the world like most of these artists have done… yet no matter how much Em reps Detroit, it’s never enough.. they don’t mess with Em but want him to be fed by him.. like JayZ said, what you eat don’t make me shit….
Honestly Detroit didn't do much for Em when he was down. It beat him down. He has charities now, he does features with newer artists still. He still puts out music. But he's not about to bend over backwards for a city that didn't want him really at first.
Triggered me at 1:12. Brain Damage was my favorite track on that album. Good choice to go back and listen to and rehash his lyrical quality. I haven't seen anyone mention the song "Bad Influence" though. That song was insane. It was of the "End of Days" soundtrack.
You know who did shit for Em in Detroit when he was coming up? Proof, D12, Kid Rock. Ain't no one like none of these idiots do anything for Em. Mainly, Em did things for Em as far as I can tell from how he tells things from back then. So they need to lace up their sneakers, put their nose to the grind and get going to find their own success.
Couple days ago I was walking with a cup of coffee in my hand and a homeless guy stopped me to ask if he could have it and I was like “nah sorry man” and he got angry as shit. This is like that
Someone needs to send this interview to Grizzy Hendrix! Eminem himself didn’t like the beat and still found a way to rap and represent himself!Hendrix on the other hand bitched out and made all the excuses he can for not rapping in the finals on LMS! Guess that’s the difference between sheep’s and Goats
You're neglecting the fact that Royce convinced him to do it and his overall love for Sean. He also explained how difficult it is to write for a beat you don't like basically forcing it, which Grizzy didn't want to do
@@juliuskingsely8256 True but at the end of the day he still did it, while Grizzy didn't... You don't think Stevie tried to convince him to do it??? Also, to make it to the finales and just say nah man I don't feel this... If Eminem did that in the Rap Olympics, he wouldn't be where he is today. Just saying. When you want to succeed in this business and want respect. Then you have earn it and work your ass off for it. Not just back down cuz of a beat... That is why Grizzy won't be anything else but what he is today.
Only thing a disagree with is that you said EM is a student of the game. He was that for sure but that man a straight up master of the game now. Grandmaster if anything. But he sure as hell knows who's popping or not.
He's referring to all the hip hop music that eminem listens to even though he's successful, he never stops studying the new music to see which new direction he can go. Every Saturday he does that. The best masters are still students.
@@tf5920 you wouldn't call a grandmaster in chess a student because he continues to study strategies. I get what you're saying but in my opinion he's not a student anymore.
@@amaninawhale8061 But that same grandmaster in chess would TELL you that you NEVER stop learning and that he’s STILL a student of the game…..that’s why you see these same guys playing chess by themselves. 🤔
@@jwdathefax377 but at that high of a level they're not really studying anything. They're teaching themselves new variations based on the things they already know (mastered). Eminem isn't learning from most of these new gen rappers. He's keeping up with things just in case the fans are into different types of sounds at the time.
@@amaninawhale8061 And that’s still learning in both cases bruh no matter how you put it. The quote “I’m still a student of the game” usually comes from the same type of people you’re talking about. Are you going to tell them they’re wrong just so that you can be right in this conversation? Picking up “new variations” of what you do professionally after the “game” has changed is LEARNED by STUDYING what’s going on WITHIN the game and using it meshed with what you already know. That’s being “a student of the game”. Nobody said that he’s a “student of the new rappers”. Relax, you’re starting to “Stan” out. 😆
My first video of yours and you didn’t disappoint. Always keep it real man, we need more people that dig deeper and try to understand a story rather than just jumping onboard with whatever may fit their conception of the world.
That's why I don't like when some ( and I said some) Em fans try to start stuff by forcing an Em and royce confrontation. Royce has almost single handedly defended Em against everyone for years risking to be insulted in the process and because he says sometimes that he can understand an opposite point. Some Em fans were like " That's it. F royce. I don't ever want to see him collab with Em again. Snake " not realizing Em himself hates those kind of dividing fans and said so many times
@@olearyeugene True but mostly 50 takes the humour way to defend Em. Royce has went against people for Em with passion and anger like the video he put out addressing lord jamar back when it was going down and then he became the mediator to try to bring jamar to Em side.

How can anyone expect Em to embrace them when in every interview how they don't fok with him and so on? Doesn't make sense to me. Then when Em signs a new artist and they don't reach Em status, the artists fans and others blame Em for their failure
lots of people think just because you from somewhere, ie; Detroit, that you gonna be great truth is Eminem had to get known all by himself and the reason why he got so big is because he was actually good and you can see the absolute dedication he put into his music to the point where he reaches perfection in production just because Em does that doesnt mean you young blood from Detroit will be just as good or popular this is the lesson to learn here and many fail to learn it, thats where the hostility comes from more often than not so you are correct: they think they are good but they arent, thats why Eminem doesnt remotely care about them because he knows them and he knows that they are leagues below with high opinions of themselves and not improving i have enough of my two hands to name you the newschool rappers that i fuck with and enough of one hand to name you the ones i actually care and enjoy to listen to
It's funny how things work, I watched this video yesterday and I was thinking ''I wonder what Stevie would think about this''. I'm going to check out the full interview as I always find Royce very interesting to listen to. He is very well spoken and gets his points over very well.
How can that dude not hear himself on how entitled he sounds n also a crybaby? Like it's not Em's job to search up rappers from D and market them.. No one else did it for him back in the days before Dre. Sean sounds like a son to Em he never had lol
Em will work with anyone that he thinks is deserving.. Like you said, he looks for ppl that are unique and have put in the work without asking for handouts.. Em literally came from nothing and grinded to the top.. Never asked for handouts, he was out there giving his tapes out hoping for someone to see the potential without begging. These rappers just expect Em to work with them just because they from the same city. Like Calicoe, T Grizz and all them.. Talking about Em don't help Detroit rappers or do anything for Detroit.. Which actually he does A lot, from Charites, toy drives etc.. Helped Battle rappers from Detroit.. 1. Putting them on the dvds behind the scenes and extras. 2. Got them exposure. The dude "Lyckety Splyt" is a underground Detroit rapper "Strike". Who Em even bailed out of jail so he could finish his parts in the movie. Has a song with him as well. Em has worked with A LOT of artist from the D.. King Gordy, Helluva, Da Ruckus, Hush.. I mean the list goes on.. Great take Stevie.💪🏽 Then if you aren’t a lyrical rapper most likely Eminem won’t collaborate or sign you to his label because that’s the era he came from. So in this new era when most rappers aren’t lyrical anymore because majority of the youth don’t care about doubles/triples set bars or storytelling/flow switches anymore. They only care about if the beats are 🔥 and it has a catchy hook that the artist repeats like 4/5 times in the song with only 1 maybe 2 verses with the MV having thicc women throwing that ass back in that 1:30/2:00 music video. 😂
Peace to the Lawd Stevie Knight. Yo I am a 40 year old cat that has been a head for many years (since late 80s) and in line with an idol of mine "You cant truly love all music unless you have participated in it at some point in your life" I have participated many years ago and now just enjoy the legends while they here and give it up to the legends that added bricks to the house of hip hop but rep from the otherside. I have always appreciate the way you think so I love your videos... I rarely if ever disagree but it is always good to surround one self with different schools of thought which is how we learn best. That said, I appreciate you and your input and wish there more more cats that approach topics by using all sides of the brain to the best of our ability. Peace and Blessings.
Royce single handedly in a gracious and elegant yet assertive manor addressed inquiries shrouded in hate and misunderstanding and schooled cats in perspective and respect among other things. Royce is an intellect and shinning example of a black leader. Dude should be out here lecturing at universities like my main man GZA. Peace to the god Royce 5'9. Shout out to Em.
This is what it is: All the cats on Big Sean’s cypher are new school. The people he named in the top 5 are from the era Eminem came up. There was a beef between the Street Lordz Chedda Boys and Eastside Chedda Boys. SL had Blade Icewood, Juan, etc and Eastside had Malik, Wipeout, etc. Wipeout got killed and they killed Blade in retaliation. Big Herk was part of Rock Bottom…his own crew and is a Westside guy. Then Stretch Money came along for the Eastside and Malik left the CB moniker and just went by Chedda Boy Malik and released the street anthem “We Do it Big.” K-Deezy came along for the Westside and came out with his Stuck in My Ways Album with the banger In My Hood. They reconciled their differences mostly and a few other acts came out of it but it is all predicated on street rap with grimey beats. That generation bred Icewear Vezzo and Doughboy Cashout. Which led eventually to Sada Baby, 42 Dugg and Tee Grizzley. I think the best representation of Detroit rap overall is the K-Deezy stuck in my ways album (it’s on Spotify). But some of the Dj Young Mase mixtapes are amazing. If you want to experience the Detroit sound he’s talking about: Big Herk: on the block, trap going ham, do what you do Stretch Money: lil sum sum, hit the block, takes money to make money Malik: we do it big, bottle poppin, throw the money: Blade Icewood: ride on em, game on lock, and the entire blood sweat and tears album Eastside Chedda boys: I’m a Chedda boy baby, oh boy The reason he says “oh they’re good lyricists but we don’t rock with them” is because despite the fact we have Eminem, Royce, Elzhi, black milk, Obie trice, Big Sean, and J Dilla to name a few, the hood feels like the commercialization of their music doesn’t encapsulate their style or sound or what they want to get across and that the “real” Detroit style won’t be able to sell on their mainstream…so they’ve sacrificed their roots for riches and notoriety. I don’t believe that to be the case but that is their rationale.
Everything on thre SSLP to an extent is true. He was saying it in an exaggerated way. But as you brought up. Brain Damage, is literally the story of him getting beaten within the inch of his life by a bully and no one giving a fuck really.
So basically Eminem is supposed to do a song with every Detroit artist for the rest of his time on Earth, just because they are FROM Detroit???? Is this expected of any other artist? This is just silliness and makes Detroit look like a bunch of crabs.
7:00 NWA did a couple songs in r&b, Tupac did one themed to country, Run DMC did a couple to metal, Easy E did one in punk, BiggiE did 3 to pop, Bone Thugz N Harmony did a album in group R n B, Cypress Hill did blues! Snoop/Dre/Tupac in colabs with others did BOTH group R n B and techno inspired, Wu Tang Clan did just about all and even did some to weapon sounds and song names to 3 act story structure, and the heroes journey accross 3 albums! o-0 And Em was like, how do I add to the collection, and did 1 to classical, and in another Rapped to sheet music in all it's category within! o-0 People claimed you CAN'T do either with classical and Eminem went 'Hold my 40, time to rewrite what CAN and CAN'T be. And this is all AFTER the same doubters claimed a rapper can't act. and out comes Tupac, DMX, Ice Cube, Ice-T, Method Man! Going- Hold our shots/mix drinks for a grip, and get nominated in ALL acting categories for TV n movies together over 25 years and counting!
I think Stevie misunderstood dude in the red. He wasn’t against Em, he was playing devils advocate for the people who are. Basically he was saying both what he thought they were thinking AND what he thought Em was thinking then asking Royce what he thought about it.
When he said "you don't rap and you don't write rap, so you don't know how it feels too write to a beat you don't like" That shit is true as shit. I've only wrote to one beat i didn't like in my entire endeavor, and it was so uncomfortable. I know it sounds dumb, but when you're not fucking with a beat, writing too it is almost impossible, especially if you're a huge critic of yourself.
Didn’t this exact thing happen to Dre not too long ago about him supposedly not giving enough people chances from Cali? Or specific areas? I could be wrong but Im pretty sure the same convo took place
Dude, your work ethic and business mind combined with something you love is something I really admire about you. I’m turning my life around in a similar way. You don’t know me, but please say a prayer or keep me in your thoughts. I got the work ethic, I got the integrity, I got the passion. I just got to get off my ass and execute it. Congratulations on your success by the way.
If Em don't recognize them in his shit then don't acknowledge them in his interviews or in his music, then they become haters and the one Rapper/MC to take out the Champ, AKA "The Goat"!
Bro this shit irritated me too as a Stan , Man they want him to pull them up without even showing the respect he fucking earned , pricks he already got the crown 👑

My issue with the "lyrical rappers have a tough climb" statement is people like scru be hatin and abusing the term "lyrical miracle" to discredit people. Not every song needs to have some deep metaphorical meaning. Sometimes I wanna hear people flex their pen game
Couldn't agree more 💯 sometimes I want a break from all the deep meanings and just hear rap for the hell of it.
You might like Action Bronson. His raps are just raps, there isn't a story or deeper meaning really. His debut album was actually criticized for 'not having a theme'. Not everything needs a damn theme or story all the time
I love Royce's grip on logic and how measured and how thoughtful every response he has is
This whole interview is golden. You needa check it out fully if you ain't plannin on reacting to it man.
“He don’t gotta come down to you , you gotta go up to him” that line was gold Steve 👏
I respect that because that's exactly how it should be.
These rappers today don't have the sam hussle. All of the people you named had to hussle to move their demos, rap in lobbies or anywhere they could to get heard. It's not the same anymore.
They don't have the same hustle because it seems like anybody with a laptop can do it.
The biggest issue with Gen Z is they have no respect, they’re entitled, and they don’t respect those who came before them
If your song didn’t come out 5 minutes ago, they really dgaf
Eminem is the hip hop assassin. He listens to lyrics with admiration. He studies the game. That is the gist of it. He did a lot. It should inspire but people love to hate. That is foolish sometimes.
So why does he not speak for himself and other people have to talk for him now? Can't he talk? Where are his balls?
@@kevinkarbonik2928 he's just too big now to respond
@@kevinkarbonik2928His balls are in his music.
I feel like Royce is getting irritated during the interview as well. ENTITLEMENT is exactly what's going on here.
@@CrazeeAdam so basically em has and does more for Detroit and its people, then Detroit ever has or will for him.
Triggered me at 1:12. Brain Damage was my favorite track on that album. Good choice to go back and listen to and rehash his lyrical quality. I haven't seen anyone mention the song "Bad Influence" though. That song was insane. It was of the "End of Days" soundtrack.
ua-cam.com/video/UpCao3ptLaI/v-deo.html
You know who did shit for Em in Detroit when he was coming up? Proof, D12, Kid Rock. Ain't no one like none of these idiots do anything for Em. Mainly, Em did things for Em as far as I can tell from how he tells things from back then. So they need to lace up their sneakers, put their nose to the grind and get going to find their own success.
Couple days ago I was walking with a cup of coffee in my hand and a homeless guy stopped me to ask if he could have it and I was like “nah sorry man” and he got angry as shit.
This is like that
Em work his ass off to be what he is please leave that man alone!!!!
royce has the intelligence TI thinks he has
Someone needs to send this interview to Grizzy Hendrix! Eminem himself didn’t like the beat and still found a way to rap and represent himself!Hendrix on the other hand bitched out and made all the excuses he can for not rapping in the finals on LMS! Guess that’s the difference between sheep’s and Goats
Hahahaha I had the same thought 😅 🤣 😂 check my comment out 👍👍👍good one man shows how super soft Grizzy was 👏👏👏👏
You're neglecting the fact that Royce convinced him to do it and his overall love for Sean.
@@woobi3254 true that you can't defend someone who didn't even try and we would have said well at least he tried.
@@elvisogarro4975 Exactly!
50 cent too, but 50 would stay out of it if he know it isn't anything serious like the the snoop and Eminem thing.
@@olearyeugene True but mostly 50 takes the humour way to defend Em. Royce has went against people for Em with passion and anger like the video he put out addressing lord jamar back when it was going down and then he became the mediator to try to bring jamar to Em side.
@@brandonayong5823 how did the thing between Em and Jamar turn out bc I haven't heard anything between them since MTBMB

Well said!!!!!! One of the smartest arguments I've seen on UA-cam
Stevie bro I am gonna keep it a 100 with you like ya do with us, I hold your reactions and opinions to a lot more sway simply because you have literally more self respect for yourself than so many others in this age of reactionary media and poor mental and physical health practices. There are so few people just by pure volume that are comfortable in their skin to the point of being ok with appearing human. With being open to knowledge not needing to be infalliable, and open to learning. Thanks for all the awesome content dude, wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas or Happy Happy Holidays whichever you celebrate!
How can anyone expect Em to embrace them when in every interview how they don't fok with him and so on? Doesn't make sense to me. Then when Em signs a new artist and they don't reach Em status, the artists fans and others blame Em for their failure
lots of people think just because you from somewhere, ie; Detroit, that you gonna be great
truth is Eminem had to get known all by himself and the reason why he got so big is because he was actually good and you can see the absolute dedication he put into his music to the point where he reaches perfection in production
just because Em does that doesnt mean you young blood from Detroit will be just as good or popular
this is the lesson to learn here and many fail to learn it, thats where the hostility comes from more often than not
so you are correct: they think they are good but they arent, thats why Eminem doesnt remotely care about them because he knows them and he knows that they are leagues below with high opinions of themselves and not improving
i have enough of my two hands to name you the newschool rappers that i fuck with and enough of one hand to name you the ones i actually care and enjoy to listen to
As a 20+ year lyricist, yes, my stomach turned half way threw ur video
NAS FT. DAMIAN MARLEY - PATIENCE.
Liked and commented simply after that intro point you made homie. Well put.
I need a Eminem ludacris and hopsin song
Definitely w luda!
It's funny how things work, I watched this video yesterday and I was thinking ''I wonder what Stevie would think about this''. I'm going to check out the full interview as I always find Royce very interesting to listen to. He is very well spoken and gets his points over very well.
The man has sense, and is Intelligent yes you can have one without the other but sense gets you a lot further.
So for ppl to actually talk shit about Em not helping anyone without even knowing is just some hater shit..
You hit the nail on the head. Em and Dre stunted on them all in the new banger Gospel.
Didn't Royce find a bigger chair? Where did he even get that, the Queen? 😂

At the end of the day Em is a normal human being with genuine feelings. How much can a man take? I'm sad Em has to go through this shit almost everyday in his life. Money & fame won't help shit if you don't respect the man ❤️ it's high time now 🥺
You gotta do the Wayne and Cordae joint soon!!!!!
Great take Stevie.💪🏽
Then if you aren’t a lyrical rapper most likely Eminem won’t collaborate or sign you to his label because that’s the era he came from.
Nahhhh you should have let It run to where he talked about being in the studio Dre and Em in the Beginning bro!!!!!
Watching this, would sure like to see convo beteen you and Royce about em and hip hop. Awesome reaction!
Its the same hate that nipsey and dolph ended up gettin from their hometown
This is what it is:
All the cats on Big Sean’s cypher are new school.
If you want to experience the Detroit sound he’s talking about:
Big Herk: on the block, trap going ham, do what you do
Stretch Money: lil sum sum, hit the block, takes money to make money
Malik: we do it big, bottle poppin, throw the money:
Blade Icewood: ride on em, game on lock, and the entire blood sweat and tears album
Eastside Chedda boys: I’m a Chedda boy baby, oh boy
The reason he says “oh they’re good lyricists but we don’t rock with them” is because despite the fact we have Eminem, Royce, Elzhi, black milk, Obie trice, Big Sean, and J Dilla to name a few, the hood feels like the commercialization of their music doesn’t encapsulate their style or sound or what they want to get across and that the “real” Detroit style won’t be able to sell on their mainstream…so they’ve sacrificed their roots for riches and notoriety. I don’t believe that to be the case but that is their rationale.
Damn Stevie! You said it all perfect.. took the words out of my mouth! You da man!
Shoutout to Royce!!! ♥️✌️🎼🙏
Nice Video Stevie, thanks For that Interview 👍
Everything on thre SSLP to an extent is true. He was saying it in an exaggerated way. But as you brought up. Brain Damage, is literally the story of him getting beaten within the inch of his life by a bully and no one giving a fuck really.
Stevie, you know it!
This is almost like the Chicago rappers and kanye and how they were thankful he got on the "Don't Like Remix" and how he didn't owe them that.

The entitlement of this generation is ridiculous lol. You haven't worked hard enough to even get a email from Eminem's team lol.
Please go through that album again man, can't wait to see it
It's so cool seeing 5'9 letting them dudes talk and not cut them off even if they speaking nonsense.
It hits you different everytime it's how you can relate at the time
This reminds me of that ET quote “you want my spot, come take it from me….but u ain’t grinding like I do”
Congratulations on the half million subs bro 💪
Hang on, did I hear that right? Is anybody actually complaining about Em raising the bar for lyrical rappers?
I don't get it.
This makes me respect Royce more. He touched on this topic addressing these entitled rappers on a level that they needed to be addressed.
So basically Eminem is supposed to do a song with every Detroit artist for the rest of his time on Earth, just because they are FROM Detroit???? Is this expected of any other artist? This is just silliness and makes Detroit look like a bunch of crabs.
Congratulations on the 500k SN
This whole new generation is entitled in every aspect. Nobody owes you shit.
Still waiting on you to do "McAsshole - who it is" here on youtube
7:00 NWA did a couple songs in r&b, Tupac did one themed to country, Run DMC did a couple to metal, Easy E did one in punk, BiggiE did 3 to pop, Bone Thugz N Harmony did a album in group R n B, Cypress Hill did blues! Snoop/Dre/Tupac in colabs with others did BOTH group R n B and techno inspired, Wu Tang Clan did just about all and even did some to weapon sounds and song names to 3 act story structure, and the heroes journey accross 3 albums! o-0
And Em was like, how do I add to the collection, and did 1 to classical, and in another Rapped to sheet music in all it's category within! o-0 People claimed you CAN'T do either with classical and Eminem went 'Hold my 40, time to rewrite what CAN and CAN'T be.
STEVIE KNIGHT COME ONN BROSKI!
Preach it’s respect ✊ in how you defend EM
When he said "you don't rap and you don't write rap, so you don't know how it feels too write to a beat you don't like"
That shit is true as shit. I've only wrote to one beat i didn't like in my entire endeavor, and it was so uncomfortable. I know it sounds dumb, but when you're not fucking with a beat, writing too it is almost impossible, especially if you're a huge critic of yourself.
Year late but I'll confirm this. Anytime people throw me beats I don't like, I have an extremely hard time writing or freestyling to it.
Entitlement is a common thread that young people of this generation seem to have about everything
