Lovely. Best bits: the Toivonen shrine, and the fact that he keeps parts from the cars he's crashed. JML: even more of a nice bloke than I already thought. Which is going it some.
My favourite rally driver from the world rally championship. I've been spectating on rallies now since the late 60s right through the GRP4, GRP B and GRP A day's, my favourite cars were always the Ford escorts, Audi Quattros and the classic shape subaru Impreza's. And my favourite drivers were Russel Brooks from here in Britain, Ari Vatenen, Richard burns and Colin Macrea and now its Jari. I go watch more historic rallying these days as I like the old stuff better, but when given the chance I get out on the Rally GB to watch a stage or two.
this guy is always having a good, always smiling and never giving up no matter what the problems are he stays optimistics no matter what - and beyond that he is probably the best driver in the WRC after Loeb, even if they say Miko is the ace but i don't think so. Jari Matti got way more than Miko...
Guys , at 2:14 is a photo with henri sitting on a red lancia 037. Does anyone have this photo? I am looking for it about a year now and i cant find it. Help anyone?
KIITOS! Jari-Matti sucha fun guy to be around, however it does seem like he has an obsessive compulsive disorder the way everything is so arranged and neat ahahahaha. NEXT WORLD CHAMPION LATVALA! Young boy doing it bigggg.
+adam abu othman Well, it's not usual at all to be a youngster and have rallying as a hobby in here (Finland). As far as I know it's expensive as hell for starters. Jari-Matti's father - as you probably know - is a former rally driver, so, it's not a coincidence that J-M's too. Don't be jealous at all. If you want to sacrifice all your money and properties - off you go, but it most likely doesn't pay off. A second example is Harri Rovanperä's son who has successfully rallied in Baltic countries. I hope that we'll hear of him soon enough, though he's currently only 15 years old.
+serpentchimera Probably lame to answer to one's own comment but I thought this over in a larger picture as I happened to read an article from a local newspaper today concerning upon-mentioned Kalle Rovanperä. It included mention of other "heir" of former Finnish rally champions. Ari Vatanen's, Marcus Grönholm's, Hannu Mikkola's and Markku Aléns sons have also competed in rallying. Legendary Henri Toivonen's father Pauli - legendary as well - was also a driver. And so was Henri's brother Harri. The same thing occurs everywhere. Wasn't it Ayrton Senna's nephew who has competed in the F1's? How about the Villeneuves (Gilles and Jacques)? Graham and Damon Hill? And the list goes on and on. It needs talent, passion and - unfortunate or not - funding.
@italiano521 I don't think you saw the same rally as I, or you didn't actually seen the rally, just watched the final results!! Latvala, and mikko if weren't the problems they had with the tyres, punctures, engine and suspensions, maybe Ford would kick citroen's ass, Latvala put some best times, and never lost too much time in those he didn't won, apart from the problems they had!! SO INVESTIGATE BEFORE YOU SAY SHIT!!
Especially after watching this, I want nothing more than to see Latvala win a title. What a great guy.
well atleast hes the manager of a team now
