    Hi Lidia! Another hemorrhagic stroke survivor from June, 2017. You've improved so much and should be proud of yourself! You're already using a quad-cane! I have major balance issues and working on walking by myself. Watching your improvements is inspirational. So good to see you have helpful and encouraging Therapists!

    Hi Lidia and family. Keep up the good effort. I hope you are still improving oneday at a time I came across your video Tuesday 5:47pm 29/8/23. Its been 3yrs since my brain haemorrhage recovery, very blessed to be alive still. It is hereditary in my genes, so this for sure is a Miracle in my book. Singing is another game changer in your recovery if you love singing for fun like me. Making time to see the Ocean, rivers, or lakes if you are close to it. It certainly makes your mind clear, n while out n about watching the waves, take a small speaker and play your spotify fav songs, that is another fun n beautiful time out to do. Get yourself a walker, that can be turned into a wheechair when your tired of walking. I love singing, so i joined a group of women that sings for fun n two of us have an Impairment n the rest are all independent women. I get a carer through NDIS that takes me to whereever i need to go. So if your iphone is second nature, then hopefully research n find lots of ideas on it, to help you with your recovery. We still have sensations, people look at us, we look okay, but we are not the same as we use to be. I just wanted to encourage you and keep up the strong, and your brilliant effort and energy that you do everyday, you wake up, and glad to be alive and breathing. Stay blessed and always be happy. I live in Melbourne, Australia. What can i say, we Aussie citizens are so blessed. I hope the same goes with your country of citizen as well. Until your next video, I look forward to your continuous full recovery. Lots of love always Juliana.

      We have come to realize that some of Lidia’s confidence in walking is determined by the brace she is wearing at the time. We have narrowed down some favorites. Her best one was a custom made AFO but we are slowly transitioning to the FootScientific Elevate 360.
      Thank you for watching and good luck in your recovery.

    I just watched your anniversary video where you said you could not walk yet. But on this video, the last shot looks like you are walking. Walking with can, crutch or walker is still walking. The fact that you are needing less assistance is awesome! Keep up the hard work. I know you’ll make this goal!

      Thank you for watching our video and fir your words of encouragement. We are at 18 months post-stroke and Lidia is walking with only the assistance of her cane and AFO brace. She can get up and down from her wheelchair, bed and couch. We still struggle getting on and off the toilet. We believe even that will be remedied soon. Keep on fighting the fight.

I would suggest making videos of your mom as well so that she can look back and see her own progress. Sometimes it's hard to see your own progress, but when we look back, we realize that we are actually doing it.

    Its 9 months since my mom had the same stroke out here in nyc. Its a shame the way the insurance companies and nursing facilities do not dedicate this much care to my mom. She has the potential to walk but the services she receives are limited. Shes worked all her life so that means you get limited services and don’t qualify for better services. You don’t work a day in ur life and u get approved for medicade and you get every service possible with the tax dollars my mom use to pay when she worked. I wish i could get her more help.

Chances of recovery over 4 years is very low. Cannot get insurance for cruising at all with ICH.

    What you recommend for hand as mom is having same problem

    • @StrokeofMadness
      @StrokeofMadness  3 роки тому +1

      I wish I had the answer. We are also struggling with arm and hand movement. We do exercises every day. With my help, we straighten out her arm. We were instructed not raise her arm more than 90 degrees either in front or to the side. I also help her stretch out her hand and fingers so that they don't bunch up in a ball. We do this at least once a day. It's hard because Lidia can't do these stretches by herself so I have to help her.
      We have an air splint that helps keeping her arm straight while helping her move her shoulder. Also, we have an arm skate that helps with movement of her arm and elbow.

    • @StrokeofMadness
      @StrokeofMadness  3 роки тому

      Hypertension has gotten better. It used to be way worse than it is. She has to consciously think about it. The good thing is that when she does concentrate on not hyperextending, she can do it. Which means, eventually, we’ll be able to do it without thinking.

      How long does it take for a full recovery? This is a hard question to answer because everybody is different. When I write this comment, Lidia is 18 months post-stroke. She is able to walk with a cane and an AFO. She can walk without a cane but is still wobbly. She doesn't have functional movement in her hand and arm yet.
      Recovery never stops.
      The body and brain are wonderful things and they learn to adapt. Because the stroke damaged part of Lidia's brain, she won't be like she was, she'll just be different. I think that this is the same for everybody, we won't be like were, we'll just be different.

    • @StrokeofMadness
      @StrokeofMadness  3 роки тому

      With Botox, the doctor can target specific muscles. We had three main spots. The pectoral muscle which if loosened will allow us to lift her arm from the shoulder up or out from her body. The bicep muscles and one other below her elbow joint that would allow us to straighten her arm at the elbow. Her wrist was ok, but we also tried to target her middle finger so that we can get it straight.
