I dont know why she thinks he wouldn’t have the accent if he were born in Miami. I know Trini people who have been in the U.S. their whole life and still have the Trini accent.
Because some people do lose it. It was an honest question especially, when they're younger moving away. My mother's side is from Trini and I have cousins who were born there and lived there for like 6-10 years but they're in their 40s-50s now barely with the accent.
Because you won't have the accent if you don't live around people from the culture.

This guy I know whose from Liberia but grew up down there and he now speaks fluent Haitian Creo. I don't think she meant any harm but was a bit ignorant to certain facts.
