    Thanks. so simple and so important. I have a gen 3 Prius and went to Toyota and bought a filter for the battery fan vent. It is NOT stock with the cars. There is a vent grill but NO filter. When I ordered it (they didn’t have any ). But I made them look it up and “oh yes, there is one and it’s $14.95 (if I remember correctly). And after 10 second installation job, I am now protecting my 2011 Prius fan system. So simple, so cheap. And the dealers don’t even know about them. THANKS.

    It is rather disturbing that we are not hearing about the importance of cleaning hybrid battery filters from other sources. I never knew until you told us about them. When I looked at the one in our 2014 Prius I thought, "good - the filter does not have much dirt on the fiber mat." When I watched your video I understood there is no fiber mat - it was a mat of dog hair! You also gave us the number of the external filter that is a snap to clean.

    If I lived in hot and sometimes dusty Las Vegus or Phoenix I would set my iPhone calinder to remind me to vacuum both Sienna battery filters at three month intervals and replace them yearly.. particulary if I hauled a dog/s around in the car, . I'd go to the Parts Department at a Toyota Dealer and buy 20 of those critical air filters. I would also buy four or five extra cabin filters to be vacuumed and swapped out yearly as the hybrid battery cooling is dependent on the cars air conditioning efficiency. Might as well get some extra engine air filters and swap it out at every other oil change. Why? Probably get 250 to 300,000 miles out that very nice Toyota. Alternative: Take it to the Dealer

    Thumbs up, great video, very insightful. You have now thoroughly convinced me that these hybrids are not yet ready for the mass market. A lot of customers can't even handle changing their windshield wiper blades, much less change a custom air filter under the seat. I also wonder how hard it is to obtain one of those air filters outside of a dealership. Just trying to find 0W16 motor oil for some of these new Toyotas can be a challenge....

  • @DSPNWtoCali
    @DSPNWtoCali 3 роки тому +1

    You are like Scotty Kilmer but your own version of everything Toyota. I am big Toyota fan for reliability and DIY stuff. You save me many money and headache when most things can be wrench by myself.
    Appreciate this. We are looking at a newer Toyota Sienna but after seeing the monthly payments even with a good down payment, we have to skip for now until maybe next year.
    We can buy it but not with the crazy monthly payments even with 8k down.
    Hmm. The leasing seem like a buy for us and take over the car after the lease is over with the lease buyout. Tempting because we are sitting on a 2009 Sienna with the fuel cost, crazy in this van. 17/25 for fuel is enough to take the dive in leasing the van and go with the buyout once the lease is over.
    What you guys think? Paying 700-800 monthly or lease with 400-500. We can afford both but the monthly of $700-$800 will burden us and have us live frugally. Lol.

    • @TheCarCareNut
      @TheCarCareNut  3 роки тому

      Hi! I am not an expert on money advise but this is the advise I hear. If your ultimate plan is to keep the car long, buying it is wise. If you plan to turn in the lease and get a new car every 3 years so you won’t have to deal with any repairs ever and budget everything around a 400-500 monthly payment then lease. You can lease then buy the lease to lower your payments but in the end when all is said and done you actually paid more for the car and you’ll have payments for up to 9 years ( 3 years lease + up to 6 year financed)

    • @DSPNWtoCali
      @DSPNWtoCali 3 роки тому +1

      @@TheCarCareNut wow, I been looking and looking with alot of research. No one mentioned another 6 years to finance the vehicle if lease buyout.
      Hmm. Maybe I might get lucky with someone returning or do trade in on their 2021 Sienna. Maybe we have to wait for next year then.
      Once again thank you for all your previous videos.

    Thank you so much for this helpful maintenance tip! I just bought the exact same van two weeks ago! Absolutely love it and I’m getting 43 miles per gallon! And this is not my first Toyota hybrid! Also would you recommend having the first oil change at 5000 miles instead of 10,000 miles? I had a 2020 RAV4 hybrid that I traded in for this van and I did insist that the oil be changed at 5000 miles, and the dealer said well it doesn’t need to be done at 5000 miles but I believe that oil and oil filters are cheap maintenance!

    Hi I just got a new 2021 LE AWD Sienna about two weeks ago, I had a little accident when I put 5 jugs of water( from a well)on the back of the car(with third row seats down) then I hit the brake hard on the way home, and one of the jugs of water(5 gallon jug) came tumbling down, hit the wall of the car, the cap broke and water spilled on the back seat, I quickly made a stop to an apartment complex, lo and behold, half of the water already spilled( good thing I had a tarp to cover the floor) but water made its way to the carpet. The carpet is soaking wet from the back to the middle seat. I took it right away to toyota dealership, I parked it on a hill in the back of the dealership(I work there as a lube tech). Technician told me as long as there's no warning lights on the dash, then it should be fine and recommended that I should get the water extracted and dried up. An hour later, the detail guys showed up and I asked them to extract the water from my carpet in my sienna. So we walked over to the sienna and saw water dripping from the front of the car because it was parked nose down on a hill. Front driver seat carpet was wet.. I hope water didn't get to the hybrid battery in the front seats. Anyway the detail guys sucked the water out, and let the heater on in the Sienna..and it's now dry..I drove it home and no warning lights. My question is, should I still get the hybrid battery checked?

    • @TheCarCareNut

    I was just checking a used 2021 Sienna LE for sale at the dealer. I asked if it would be okay to see the battery filter and they looked at me like I'd come from Mars. I don't know etiquette about removing panels and screws when test driving... they DID agree to show me but they brought it into the service bay and asked a tech for help. Visually, on the outside, it looked okay. He popped it open and it was pretty dusty inside, the vent inside looked more brown. The tech watched me wipe my finger in the vent and said, "...yeah, get them to change those filters..."
    I wonder how they clean those vents and fans if the filter fails like that?

      Hi brother. The brakes are ok from my experience. The van is not super fast where you’ll need heavy braking. I don’t have complains on the brakes. The engine noise is true but also true for many hybrids. They rev up and hold like a CVT transmission car. More so on the sienna since it’s big and heavy. I would test drive one and see how you feel about the engine noise level

      You don't need to remove the back seat. You'll have to remove the clips on the front panel that is below the backseat facing towards, if you know what I mean. It's pretty easy. Press the center of the clip and then grab it and push it out. It's very simple. Any doubt just ask, I have a Yaris as well.

    I recently bought a 2022 hybrid Sienna. The 12v battery has died 3 times in the last 6 months, usually it happens after letting it sit for a couple of weeks without being driven. Can I hook up a battery maintainer/trickle charger to the jumper terminals under the hood? Or, do I need to hook it up directly to the 12v battery in the rear of the van? Thanks. AMD, Toyota made a huge leap forward with an All-Hybrid Sienna and Venza. Today they launched the new Corolla Cross in North America without a Hybrid!!! To rub salt in our wounds, the FWD Cross has a cheap Torsion Beam Rear Suspension like the Matrix did when it launched in 2002. What up with that?? On top of all this injustice, the new 2022 4Runner TRD Sport has the X-Rated X-REAS suspension. All this leads me to the shocking conclusion that Akio Toyoda does not currently subscribe to your channel :-( We have to do something about that ;-)

    • @TheCarCareNut
      @TheCarCareNut  3 роки тому +1

      Yep shocked me too! I don’t see the point of the TRD sport as it’s almost a limited model without the limited options? I wish they would’ve made a limited without XREAS. And then the corolla cross is another one just like the CHR without AWD

    • @rightlanehog3151
      @rightlanehog3151 3 роки тому +2

      @@TheCarCareNut The Cross will offer AWD with IRS. FWD models have ox cart rear suspension like a Hyundai or Mazda. We must get Akio to subscribe!
