- Bonanza - Episode 97 - The Dowry - A stagecoach carrying Alexander Dubois, his daughter Michele and her fiancé Don Ricardo Fernandez is held up. Her dowry is stolen and Monsieur Dubois is injured trying to get it back.
The Dowry
Director: Christian Nyby
Writer: Robert Vincent Wright
Stars: Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker
Genre: Western
Country: USA
Language: English
Release Date: 29 April 1962 USA
Filming Locations: Stage 17, Paramount Studios - 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA
Storyline:
The Cartwrights take a hand in matters when bandits reportedly steal the $100,000 dowry intended for the wedding of Michele Dubois (Luciana Paluzzi), the daughter of self-proclaimed land baron Alexander Dubois (Steven Geray). While the Cartwright sons stand guard over the injured DuBois during his recuperation at the Ponderosa, Ben begins to wonder why the same outlaws repeatedly manage to track down DuBois and his money. Meanwhile, bride-to-be Michele deftly wraps Joe, Hoss, and Adam around her little finger. Written on rottentomatoes.com
Reviews:
"Guest cast Steven Geray and Lucianna Paluzzi, French creole aristocrats from New Orleans and her betrothed Lee Bergere, Spanish landowner are all held up and Geray wounded in the fight. Michael Landon brings them back to the Ponderosa for rest and recuperation. He also has his eyes on Paluzzi and who wouldn't.
The interesting thing here is that Lorne Greene shelters under his roof three very big fakers. No one is really being honest with the other two.
Highlight is a knockdown drag out brawl between Landon and Bergere with Pernell Roberts offering some cynical observations to Paluzzi.
True love of a sort does triumph eventually in this Bonanza story." Written by bkoganbing on IMDb.com

Me too! 68 now. BONANZA still the Best!
Me too still watching its 2024 grew watching bonanza love it
No one mentions here that during the filming of this episode Pernell Roberts and Dan Blocker were injured when Adam's horse stumbled and threw him. Hoss'es horse then fell over Adam's horse throwing both men. Hoss broke his collar bone and wore a cast for the final 2 episodes of the 3rd season. Adam's injuries were less serious - a sprained neck. I think I read that Adam's horse was replaced with one that greatly resembled the original one but was less excitable. Neither horse suffered long-standing injuries.
Neither Pernell Roberts nor Dan Blocker looked like they were injured in this episode. Where did you get your information from?
@@lynettepalecek3141 The scenes in the episode weren't shot in order, so when Hoss is having a sleep (something he wouldn't do if there was work to be done), Dan Blocker was off with a broken collar bone. The episode, 2 episodes ago, Inger, My Love, had Hoss with his arm within his jacket when he blows out his birthday candles at the end. That episode was filmed after this one. It must have been the left collar bone that Dan broke.
@@neilwaldock6272 Oh, okay. Thank you for the information. I think that I remember seeing Hoss with his arm in his jacket and I was wondering why.
That would explain Hoss's absence in the second half of this episode.
I’ve noticed Aam is getting a lot of credit for his acting and I can see why. With his suave coolness when he’s involved in shenanigans it’s hilarious. And one of the best aspects of this great series is it ran forever so you need two lifetimes to watch them all. The more the merrier. And the saddest part is they had everything but couldn’t get married to save their life or the girls life.
happiest
Actually Pernell Robert's as Adam Cartwright only starred on Bonanza for 6 out of 14 Seasons! Then Quit , He didn't like the Show ! Little Joe Cartwright did get Married! His wife DIED ! .
I'm a Bonanza fan. Since I was 8 years old I was watching Bonanza. I hope that I can see all the Episodes.

@Mihagi Houston I'm really happy when Adam left but if you don't like those ones you should watch them first to have what you like best to look forward to.
So sweet.
I love when you hear each episode’s intro music you can tell what kinda show it’s gonna be: funny, dramatic, love story.
Hollyweird and their studio sets of a living room and three people, couldn’t hold a candle to these rich productions.
Pernell Roberts looked so handsome with his hair uncombed.
That was his flat toupée, as opposed to his usual one.
You mean his toupee 😂😂
Adam looked handsome all the time....despite having a toupee.😉
@@nadaprlic22 but nothing compared to Little Joe! Sure doesn’t have his charm! To bad Pernell didn’t care enough about his fans to want to stay! Seems like today he has more fans than he did back then! It was Micheal Landon that got the most fan mail and was the breakout star as so I have read! I know he had a great career!
We shouldn't really compare Adam with Little Joe. They are unique individuals with qualities that are attractive. There's no doubt Joe was handsome and charming. Adam was older and wiser....with rugged good looks. I love them both.❤❤❤❤
Joe é muito elegante e fofo,
Também um grande ator.
Adam enjoyed watching little Joe fight expression amazing loved family
Adam didn’t like acting in Bonanza and got out as soon as he could according to the contract you can google if you like for futher details
I love those old westerns
Adam has such beautiful eyes
Just loved the way that Ben stopped Little Jo from going into the house!!!
I still don't know why she wants to marry him!!! Great line by Joe
Yeah, and just after he gets smacked in the mouth for no reason!
Sentimental
Adam was so happy watching joe fight 😆
His expressions were priceless.
The joe stunt man is wearing black boots and when they cut back to Mke Landon he is wearing his usual swede
I loved his smile!
@@brianjamison2160 They definitely did not pay their continuity person enough.
I loved to watch Pernell walk ❤❤
You can see the shadow of the film crew and camera on top of the stagecoach when Michael Landon is riding up top
I love the musical scores on these episodes..
Oh, so good, so light hearted.Again, a joy to me. THANK YOU. I'm always willing to see the next one. I can't believe that are so many episodes I haven't seen before. I'm so glad and grateful for finding your channel.
Bring some popcorn and we can watch them together.
They’re all in show has bine dead ?? I’m sorry man

Cute episode the kissing between little Joe, Michele which she liked, and the fight, and then the revelation turned into love, all good.

Pretty over the top dressing gown!
👍👌👏 Nice comedy Western. Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this old series.
Best regards luck and health.
The actor that portrayed Ricardo starred in Star Trek TOS in " The Savage Curtain" as Abraham Lincoln.
That would be Lee Bergere.
Thank you! I was wondering where I saw him before. He made a great Abraham Lincoln in that Star Trek episode. He also reminds me of the actor George Hamilton.
I knew he looked familiar but I couldn’t place him. You’re exactly right. Good actor.

Good ol' Little Joe.. can I kiss the bride..? Ok ok I can't kiss the bride.. hahaha 🤣🤣 🤠 🍻🍺 👍
Joe wears every emotion on his sleeve. Also girl run 🏃🏼♀️
During the fight, Joe's closeups, brown boots: stuntman...black boots.
Landon wore special lift boots.

Yes,.another lovely episode, but it's so sad to know that they're all dead what a pity🤔🤔
Another great episode. Many thanks!
Thank you so much for each episode. Bonanza was and is the TV serial from my childhood that I can never forget. I bought once some DVD and each have 3 episodes some 4. I got it from N. 1 to N., 30. Of course, many I'm just seeing now, for the first time, thanks to you. Oh what a joy!My mother is very ill and one of the things that makes her life happier is to watch Bonanza.I thank you from my heart.
I don't know how recent your profile picture is, but your face is very cute. And you sound like a total sweetheart.
This episode looks great - can't wait to watch it - thank you!
In this episode adam looks more handsome than ever
Joe is the most handsome! Hands down! He has the hair and eyes and his charm doesn’t hurt either!
Your absolutely right, Adam does look more handsome than ever.❤❤🥰
Well I didn’t notice, since he was in this episode very little! But it was one of my favorites since gorgeous Little Joe was in it a good bit!
Little Joe is gorgeous, just beautiful!
Some episodes are just so goofy. Particularly when they are the following of one like Blessed are They about the family feud, the children and the angelic? preacher.
That wagon sure broke easy enough when Joe and the Spanish dude fell on it. I'd hate to ride on that thing when it hits the bump on a road.
IT didnt break - remember little joe had the wheel off and as we seen him do before he was applying the grease and when spanish dude put the weight it fell over- you can see the grease on LJ neck afteer the fight :))
Did anyone else see the shadow of the camera on the drivers back😂😂😂 at 48:06
watched this as a kid- use to "wrestle" with a big pillow and punch it out like little joe -hoss is the real badass and i only seen his get his ass handed to him once when he fought a boxer- adam yelled" dont box him, wrestle him and then hoss skated barely to the top- great show and ive been watching reruns 2-3 times a week for the past 3-4 months- makes me feel old in some ways knowing all these men are dead including dennis hoppper i seen a couple weeks ago on one episode- he was a young dude but you could tell dennis hopper anywhere :)
"Where is Hoss?"
"He took himself a little nap."
Nah, Hoss was in the hospital. Dan Blocker jumped off his horse and broke his shoulder. (The horse lost its footing and they were supposed to jump off in that situation.)
That look Ben gives Joe at 7:57. It's like my parents studied Ben to learn how to shoot their kids silent, deadly looks. 🤣
Very interesting n lovely episode👍 👌👌❤❤😁⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
SAMUEL
i know its petty - but watching Little Joe choke that hammer gets to me - also for the size of the decking nail he was using that hammer was just wrong - way too small
Yes 😂🤣😂🤣🤣 well spotted Carlos 👍
Hahaha Carlos, this was just a tv show. The point was NOT what he was doing, but rather to show that her beauty and presence was too distracting to Little Joe to effectively do his work.
1:55 You can see the shadow of the film camera on the back of the person on the right ;)
This was a great and funny episode. Thank you.
Glad you liked it, thanks for tuning in! 🤠👌🎬🍿
Thanks!
XD love how the horse noped out of the fight scene
CHRACTER BUILDING OLD TV MOVIES.....THEEEEEEE BEEEEESSSSTT
Shadow at 1minute 58 at beginning of show of camera on the driver and front of stagecoach.
Poor little Jo. He always thinks too much about women lol
Remembered seeing Lucianna Paluzzi somewhere, but not sure where. But then! She was in The Green Slime! I only watch the best movies. lol
She was that damned sexy Fiona Volpe in Thunderball. Also in Five Fingers. And all the Italian films...
Every time they show the view of someone riding away from the front yard off around the barn it's a whole different scene. Sometimes it's a downhill wash, sometimes it's a long road going off into a meadow, sometimes it's a field full of small trees, sometimes it's a trail through rocks and boulders, sometimes it's a graded road with berms and other times it's basically just a single path trail. Whatever the story happens to call for that's what they show. You'd think there would be some kind of continuity there, but I guess they figured TV audiences had a short memory from one week to the next.
Visited the site in 1993 and had to find out what was around the corner of the barn that was never shown. It was a very short road that was ended by some boulders.
Back of the house in some episodes looks like a mansion which it didn’t look nothing like the front
Joe is beyond disrespectful. If u tried 2 move in on his girl, he would be fire hot mad and ready 2 fight
Too bad the thieves don’t know that the dowry jewels are not real.
Is this the first time the supposed entry to the ranch house is filmed(as the carriage exits at the finale)??
And the rear overhead camera positioning as the stage hold up commences is new to the series
30:47
How could such a beautiful woman
abort her unborn french babies?
Please say they are citizens...❤
Shame about the movie camera 🎥 on top of the stage coach at 2:00 seen as a shadow in the sunlight 💭
There were many production issues in this show. Always fun to see them...
@@edoedo8686 True
That Mexican guy was talking about the irrigation system on the Ponderosa. In order to have an irrigation system, you need a pump powered by an internal combustion engine running on diesel--yes, a Diesel engine. There were absolutely no Diesel and gasoline engines during the time era of the Ponderosa--1850s and 1860s.
Adam Cartwrith ❤
Hi 🙋♀️ this is a very nice 👍🏻
more guests at the ponderosa bed and breakfast and hospital
Let me get this right: the guy lied all the way through, tried repeatedly to steal the dowry and nearly had the father killed in the process, but despite all that the daughter and the Cartwrights wanted the guy forgiven and the daughter still wanted to marry the scoundrel? Weird, to say the least!
Joe and Captain Kirk must be related.
That's funny. Lol.
Little Joe seriously needs to stop kissing people's fiances.
It's' not like she objected!
@@CathyKitson Which is more of a problem, for she's the one who is engaged to be married.
@@user-pd7il3xz5j Well, I can understand it in a way. She truly felt Ricardo felt nothing for her and the following morning said she was going to break it off. This was before Ricardo challenged Joe to a duel and they took each other apart with their fists.
@@CathyKitson She saw her fiance was behind Joe and kissed Joe back to test her fiance. That was simply using Joe. Oh my, the games people play.
@@user-pd7il3xz5j Absolutely. She wanted to make Ricardo jealous but it didn't work until he'd had time to go away and think about it for a while. To me it's a no-brainer. Who'd look at Ricardo with Joe around? haha
I don’t usually laugh at gun fight scenes. But the writing for this one was definitely laughable. Hoss and Adam are across the stream from the bandits. So, of course, it would make sense for Adam to yell, “Drop your guns-you’re surrounded!” What nonsensical writing. In real life, the bandits would do just what these actors did-jump on their horses and run! But in real life, an intelligent, experienced westerner like “Adam”wouldn’t call out and warn them!
You don't yell out you're surrounded from a long distance!
You sneak up on them and get closer and then tell them!
And as soon as someone moves you blast the crap out of them and kill them all.
Remember, a dead body can't testify against you and you can say they drew first and your brother will back you up!
Don't forget to bury the bodies and keep all the money and say you never saw them! 👍👍😂😂
Just think of all the girls you can rent in Carson City with $100,000 dollars!
😂🤣😂🤣😂
Yup, this episode was really more comic relief than anything else.
Yeah, I don't understand why they yelled "You're surrounded" from so far off. I kept thinking: what kind of strategy was that?!!!
Dang two mistakes always funny to see the goofs of the camera crew you can see the camera when there riding on the stage coach and you can see the edge of the set when heading to the branding facility. Still an amazing episode tho
Hehehe funny episode they got the word ranchero wrong though 😁

Little Joe should have leftover, they treat him bad, they humiliate him and his manhood, disgusting
You think they could have let Joe…the last brother left….marry and live happily every after. But …No…they couldn’t do that. All his little girl fans (of which I was one)… would have abandoned the show. Sigh!

The great Luciana Paluzzi and the great Steven Geray. Interesting: "happy to see your ranchero" by Lee Bergere,--oops; again 11:51, by Geray. It's rancho. Tight, tight production schedule, no time to reshoot on what was a minor blip. Ranchero is used several more times in the script. Tsk tsk... Rancho, ranchero, close enough had to be the thinking. 8:49, Bergere, besides not knowing Spanish, apparently the same thing for horses. The title for this episode could have been, Ranchero. Oh dear, the Ricardo clown always refers to his ranch as a "ranchero".... Meaning "farmer".... About time US Americans learned a little Spanish, too. Notoriously under-educated folks...
De donde eres?
They expect foreign people to assimilate and "learn English ", but they butcher languages all the time. Pobre pendejos.
Noun 2nd meaning: The owner and occupant of a ranch or rancho.
You said that based in one mistake made 50 year ago?, that's a lack of education.
Did any of you see the shadow of the camera and camera man on the drivers back?. That was pretty cool.
Lol yes! I just passed that part😝
How did the bandits know which room to go to?
How did his daughter get up stairs before her fiance when he was going up stairs and she was outside with Joe.
Joe doesn't have any respect because if u tried to move in on his woman he would be ready to fight

It is wrong, they said ranchero to refer to his ranch. Ranchero ia a rancher, a ranch is rancho, no ranchero.
Also the 2nd meaning of a Noun: The owner and occupant of a ranch or rancho.
