Nice to learn more about these. I havent tried any yet. Im a new kid on the block. Slowly finding new decants when i can. I enjoy these kinds of videos, thanks. Cheers
I recently reviewed Royal Tobacco and i gonna say, from all their new releases that one for me is number 1, period. You said something about the vanilla being too much, that depends on what batch you got of royal. 2022 batches were very dark, smokey and ashey with huge dose of tobacco, but the 2023 and above have the vanilla and tonka amped up. I had both batches and believe me, they reformulated that one so hard, even after 1 year
@@mattl7424 The opening reminds me a bit of Reckless Leather too. I think the concentrations of tobacco and frankincense were lowered in the newer batches, so spices like anise and fenugreek are more pronounced, resulting in a much greener opening. It's interesting that Daniel has mentioned vanilla and tonka, all I can smell in the recent batches is licorice. There's some tobacco yes, but Royal Tobacco isn't a smoky, tobacco-forward scent anymore.
Appreciate your takes, but to say that King Blue is Amouage’s Layton, is absolutely wild to me. 😂 I always saw Reflection Man as Amouage’s Layton…Commercial, easy to wear and derivative. I can't imagine PDM making a scent like King Blue. There is nothing designer about it to me. I show it to new noses in the perfume game all the time and they can’t get why anyone would wear it. I’m wondering what’s up with your sample.
Respected, and I agree with you...that it's easier to digest...If you love and know oud, but most people who smell it wouldn't understand why anyone would want to smell like it. I believe the formula may have changed. I would be curious what you thought when you smell it from a bottle at some point.
What an awesome list! I hope in the future that you review all the other Amouages and then rank them just like this. 😊 Thanks for making amazing content as always!
I finally got a decant of IX. wow! absolutely stunning on paper. I am going to try it on skin this weekend. I also can’t wait to try it in warm weather next summer. I can definitely see me picking up a larger decant.

Thanks for the great video. It's quite the wad to chew. Helped me understand more. I'll be coming back to this one for references. Silver oud will still be my next Amouage.
@@RamseytheRam I bought Silver Oud after you explained it on video. Absolutely love it. Yes there is less oud than a pure oud fragrance, but I like the “effects” (for lack of a better term) that the other notes bring. To me it smells like burning bakhoor as opposed to oud oil, which is why I enjoy it so much. It smells mysterious, meditative, and somehow subterranean.
@RamseytheRam Amouage is my favorite house. I'm a bit more naive about what Amouage is doing. The audacity to name it King Blue. Something don't feel right? Better be amazing. Even with your somewhat disappointing impression you still made it sound very interesting. Looking forward to seeing how this one ages with you. I'll get a sample soon I suppose. Once again thanks for your time and effort in putting these together. Much appreciated
Thanks for excellent review and I have smell all of library collections and I do have couple of them but I deep dove in king blue somehow you managed to explain king blue perfectly well but for me still consider king blue is one of best lately released by Amouage
Good list! I can't give a full one myself as i haven't tried all of them, but from the ones i have i would say opus x, xiii, ix are my top 3 for sure. A lot of the rest are great too and there's a few duds but those are the three. I like your top picks a lot but a couple dont resonate that much like they do with you so its great seeing that perspective. I think if you had the old style bottle of silver oud you may still have it up there - the newer ones probably have a lot of DPG acting as a filler and making it less intense. It's funny you mention the indie and artisanal oud perfume makers since i think silver oud is genuinely the only oud by a bigger house that competes within that bracket haha. I'm almost done sourcing all of my ingredients for my own recreation of silver oud... I want to make iterations with higher oud amounts, some with more vanilla, and some with a champaca note added in since cypriol and champaca play very nicely as the nag champa incense is a really great combo imo.
Ramsey! Hello & good morning. Great list from the opus line. Im with you on your number # 1 as I own it & number #4 from the line. Just added * Sunset in Tennessee to my collection from Artisanal perfume house jinkoh store. All things Tennessee----Mt. Dew, Whiskey, elvis. Hahaha. Sweet castorium ,ebony wood. Great scent. Thanks for list. Have a great day & hope you get around to mancera Cedrat bois review soon. 👍. A2
Thanks Ram, always interesting to hear your take on things. VII is bizarre, I like it but... I remember the first smell from the bottle hit me like freshly sliced green peppers. Maybe it's only my nose, but still, on skin it's fabulous. I have IV. V, VI and VII (all the original versions). VI is great, waxy honey-sweet amber. I prefer it to Jubilation. Out of all of these, IV smells like candy and I can't wear it much... VI gets the most wear. If you love Jasmine, get yourself a $5 bottle of Attar Full from Ahsan, trust me. It's great. Just don't tell anybody about it (the attar version, I just noticed there's a EDP, which I have not tried).
i enjoyed every second of this video i have them all except opus i - ii and my favorite atm is opus ix always happy to see your videos, keep it up and waiting for Fate review 💚
My favorites from the Opus line so far are numbers XI and VII - both equally. But I don't know all the fragrances from the line, yet. I am especially curious to try numbers IX and III. And I would like to try again the original number V (do you know if the vintage version is different from current Woods Symphony?), which I only smelled a long time ago.
Have you tried Extra Virgo? A new italian house established in 2022. Think you'll find them interesting with the ingredients they use. Think they try to capture the smell of the old world.
The opus created during Chong’s era are art in a bottle where ingredients are the main highlight. TBH I found opus 13-15 to be much more suitable under the classic collection given their scent profile to be more traditional amouage. Worse opus I got to give it to Opus XV king blue. Starts out strong but the dry down is abysmal. Amberwood galore. My top 5 are: Opus IX Opus VI Opus X Opus V Opus XI
Such a great show, sir! Really enjoyed hearing your thoughts on this most important Amouage collection. That was fun since I was able to sniff each one you reviewed! I have Opus I through X sample set. Got them when I was first starting out in frag-world. They all sort of confused me;Opus X I thought was toxic waste. A few years later and I absolutely LOVE Opus I thru VI. Opus VII I don't care for as much. Love Opus VIII and IX. Opus X I am open to sorta appreciate at some point, maybe. I would attempt to purchase any of the Opus Library Collection I could afford but Opus III is a favorite of mine. Opus VIII is a very close second. I'm just glad I stupid-lucked into the Library Collection sample set. I feel lucky to have them. And I absolutely REEK of Opus VIII right now. So weird and wonderful!
Off topic/On topic??? idk... but it would be a fun game if you picked any fragrance from your collection, then try to find another one that's connected to the first one and so on, so forth. See how many fragrances you can connect together. Like the six degrees of Kevin Bacon, but more than just six lol. Weaving a thread through the perfume world.
