  • William Ashley “Billy” Sunday (1862-1935) began his career as a baseball player for the Chicago White Stockings, but later became one of the most influential American evangelists during the first two decades of the 20th century. Between 1896 and 1935 he gave an estimated 20,000 sermons and saw more than a million people publicly confess their acceptance of Christ.
    This 1964 documentary presents scenes of Billy Sunday’s major league baseball career, his conversion and ordination to the ministry, his tabernacles and tremendous crowds, the sawdust trail, his war against liquor, his friendships with the great men of his time, and some of the results of his colorful ministry. It also includes scenes of evangelist Billy Graham in one of his crusades. In black and white.

    The tone and music of the documentary was refreshing to listen because it is old fashion, but very much alive like the Word of God. The WOG is timeless.

      Billy Graham was a False Prophet and sad to say is now in Hell! Now I heard that Billy Sunday and Billy Graham were Freemasons which is an Unbiblical Cult that believes Good Works Save a Person from Eternal Damnation!!! That is a LIE from the DEVIL!!! Read (Ephesians 2:8,9) and (Romans 6:11) make sure you use only a “King James Version Holy Bible”. God Bless.

    Coming from Great Britain I have never heard of the man. Yet this endearing documentary with it's 1950's music, playing softly in the background, brought tears to my eyes. The lesson is to be yourself I feel, and allow God to use your unique ability to get through to people that others could not, if they preach with sterility. God want's our total abandonment, men want to hear God's voice, not man's and his own idea's of preaching. God wants a willing participant, and here I am?

    Although Sunday didn't bash the catholic church (I wish he did), at least he never wanted audience with the pope.

    The message in Acts 2 is to repent (change their minds) about who Jesus Christ was. He wasn’t an out of control rabbi but rather the Son of God, the Savior of the world. Same message Paul preached. Justification by faith alone. Still applies today

  • @theshadow3103
    @theshadow3103 Рік тому +2

    Was he an Apostle Paul? No, because he didn’t preach the same message as Paul that is found in Acts 19. People who turn to Roman’s for salvation are backwards and have the cart before the horse. The Church was established in the book of Acts. The epistles were written to established Churches, not people asking how to be saved. It’s really simple. You want to know the plan of salvation, go to where the first message was preached and the first time the question was asked. In Acts 2:37, they said, Men and brethren what shall we do? Verse 38 gives the answer. It’s not rocket science, it’s just willfully ignored. The Bible doesn’t offer multiple plans of salvations, that’s man’s doings. Peter was given the keys, just read what he said on the birthday of the Church! Salvation is simple!! God made it as such! No sinners prayer in the Bible, man made that up….. if anyone can cite the sinners prayer or accepting Christ as a personal savior, in the Scriptures, just post it on here. That would settle any questions.

      Lord rebuke you for teaching a false gospel.
      Take a look carefully at the context of Acts 2:38. You will see, first of all, that the audience is entirely Jewish. As a matter of fact, Peter is addressing “the house of Israel.” In verse 36, he let them know that God made the same Jesus that they crucified both Lord and Christ. After hearing this, they asked Peter “what shall we do?” You might recognize that this is not the same question that the Philippian jailer asked in Acts 16: 30. There, he asked “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” The Jews, in Acts 2, did not ask what they needed to do to be saved!
      To the contrary, the question in Acts 2:37 referred to the problem the Jews had as a result of the resurrection. In other words, at the crucifixion they hollered for Pilate to crucify Jesus and told him, “His blood be on us, and on our children,” (Matthew 27: 25). After the resurrection, when God had made Jesus both Lord and Christ, these same Jews had a serious problem. The man that they had crucified was alive and was now in a position to judge them for what they had done. They had asked for his blood to be on them!!
      So, Peter explained to them that they had a way out of the problem. He told them, in Acts 2:38, to “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” That’s exactly what they had to do. However, if this were the proper method of salvation for everyone, then we would find water baptism preceding the gift of the Holy Ghost in other places in the Bible. But, such is not the case!
