The problem for me was the premise was amazing - a woman who’s trapped inside a prison with her children - and her merc ex-brother in law is the only person to rescue her - is amazing on paper. But then everyone becomes braindead - and you’re forced to turn your brain off - when you thought the movie would have an actually intriguing story.

@@firstlast9846 Yeah it's mainly Sandro's character that offsets everything for me after the incredible 21 minute oner. That and the tone is too damn serious in between the action bits, but that's the divide between this and something like John Wick. Wick has fun with itself and has more personality although it does really make you suspend your disbelief more often than not with its world building and physics, which Extraction doesn't do as much. At least in the first Extraction the kid was more likable and I liked the pacing better. The best bits of this one feels like watching The Raid 2 or a John Wick movie, but the weaker bits felt more like a slightly better Taken sequel.

It is a great action movie. The entire "one-shot" sequence felt like it was from a video game - in a good way. The villain was better and more menacing than the villain from the first movie, and overall, the scope of this one just felt bigger and better.

Imagine JW filmed like Extraction, where it's just a 2 hour one-take where the camera is never more than 10 feet from JW at any time...
Both styles are great, in JW it's like you're watching everything happen, like a bystander. In Extraction it feels more like a lot of a time everything is happening TO you, you're IN this shit, it's filmed so close and so 'flowy' it really is like you're in what's happening. The stunts, the brutallity of some kills, the variety of sequences, the hand to hand combat and of course the beautiful gun play in clear wide shots that just dont end. The sound of the guns, specially in the action scenes at the building, were absolutely spot on. Its very common for guns to just sound "misplaced" in a movie. A gunshot at the streets sound exactly the same as a shot in a room. Well keep wondering wtf an Oscar for what maybe film editing? Don't get me wrong it's fairly enjoyable to sit down and turn off your brain to, but jfc it's so unrealistic no way anyone could get through that prison riot especially while dragging around kids and woman lol not to mention let me take out not 1 but 2 helicopters while they have a gatlin gun shooting right at you. If you want a fucking video game on your screen to watch instead of play as an oscar then sure lol. cool action does not translate to Oscars, the first was sleek and cool semi realistic where the guy dies at the end you have to suspend all reality in this movie just to bring back the guy you just killed, if you want to watch an action movie that is actually worthy of an award check out mosul arguably just as much action (just not the set pieces or budget of this) and has actual ramifications not to mention it's incredibly emotional and political without ever having to explain that for even a split second.

Also I appreciate that they tried to put some character development into it, though those scenes slowed the tempo down a bit too much. I think the story of Extraction 1 is a bit better and also I even prefer the limited character development in the first move to the attempts to do the same in the second. One thing I absolutely love about this movie is how they portray a woman realistically performing in combat. And Golshifteh definitely delivered in that. Now don't get me wrong. She definitely kicked ass but she also had some struggles which are definitely realistic to how women would be on the battlefield. Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake also had his struggles but he handles them much better in a sense that he's a lot tankier than Golshifteh's Nik Khan is even though both are just as well-trained as each other.
On top of all of the combat stuff, the way Tyler Rake and Nik Khan interact with one another in heart to heart moments are always a treat. You always get the sense that maybe they might get together, maybe not, but at the end of the day, they are partners. Not necessarily in the romantic sense but as badass buddies. In short, she's not a girlboss. She's just a woman.

This movie feels a lot like The Raid 1&2..
The fighting, the hand to hand combat, the shot continuity, the prison riot scene, the karambit weapon used for fighting, the brutality of using anything to be a weapon, the knives stabs, and a lot more..
I enjoyed it.. this movie deserves to be in theatres.
I love how nik & yaz gets bigger role in action.
Will there be extraction 3? I hope so

This movie should have been a theatrical release. It's my favorite movie of the year so far. Netflix dropped the ball by not having it on the big screen. It's not too late. I recommend they get it on some screens if they can.

Extraction’s 1 & 2 we’re amazing and I only hope they put the same amount of effort and care into the 3rd one. And that it’s released in the theaters. And I have to say, Golshifteh Farahani is easily my celebrity/Hollywood crush. She’s absolutely gorgeous and a complete bada**.

Between the John Wick franchise and Extraction, who needs Marvel or DC? Nothing that is produced from the latter, with their over reliance on CG, can compare to well shot and choreographed action sequences that both the John Wick and Extraction franchises offer. Additionally, from a storytelling perspective, the smaller and intimate scale of John Wick and Extraction makes them far more relatable than comic book franchises where the fate of the entire world, universe, or multiple time lines are at stake.
