Not sure about the inflating particle to illustrate reduction in density.
For any students reading - they don't grow to a larger volume with the same mass, their increased kinetic energy makes them spread further apart and therefore there will be less particles per unit volume and as a result, that heated region of fluid will rise above cooler and denser regions of the fluid.
I do like these videos for some students to help remember facts, but in this one I'm concerned about the lack of detail of the processes and how that may cause misconceptions.
