Just picked up a 14’ with trailer. I like some of these build ideas. I think I will put an onboard battery maintainer, with a short power plug in one of the vertical plywood walls. I’m also heavily considering an 8 foot locker on one of the sides to keep rods secure. Thanks for sharing.
Nice little boat, looks good after the makeover. Great upgrades. Perfect for Lake Erie fishing close to shore for walleye, bass and steelhead. Very nice bro.
I love these little tin boats, especially the older Lowe's! I like your idea on an external battery. I always keep a cheap booster pack with me. I bought mine form Walmart and it has all of the plug in's and lights but it can also jump my cranking battery off in a pinch. I'm currently building my 14ft v-hull and will be uploading my first videos here shortly.
I run a tracker 12 ft. deep V, before that I ran a 10 ft. Sears. years ago. Here are a few suggestions from experience older than you are. First suggestion…..put a stingray Jr. fin on your engine (Bass Pro). It will jump it up on plane quickly and really add to stability. I actually run a 25 hp. Yamaha electric start on mine…..27 mph with just me. I have a Motor Guide X5 with remote and transducer on the front with anchor lock. Improved my fish catching by 50% (12 volt Lithium off Amazon 22 lbs), LED Rigid Industry headlights, and red/green led permanent running lights, carpeted floor, Ranger style bass seats, Lowrance HDS 9 on front and back, a all aluminum custom drive on trailer, and finally a custom towable custom cover. I get 26 mpg towing it with the Subaru. I’d suggest stop drilling holes in the boat. I glue most everything to the aluminum. Now it’s a pricey boat, but I’ve made improvements starting with it new in 2002. I started with a 7.5 Eska, then a 15 hp Mercury, and then the Yamaha. The fin on the back was the best improvement and cost $60. I’ve fished from Erie to Ochachobee in it. I can fish a month on the 3 gal of gas in the tank, while the bass boat in the garage takes that to idle out of the marina. If you want message me and I’ll send you a photo. You’ve made a great start.
Nice job you and your dad did. I to have a 12 foot aluminum boat and your description of how you did yours is awesome. Oh and I subscribed to your channel. Thank you.
Nice setup. Just a note. My 2018 Mercury 9.9hp came with a 6 amp alternater (electric and pull start) so it keeps the battery charged continuously. Runs all the gear as well. Fish on! 🎣🚤😊
Nice set up just one tiny thing. You might want to set up a chain or heavy duty wire with terminal end to snap on to front recovery eye in case your winch attachment point, rope, terminal end or winch it self fails.
Hey,, lovely boat,, especially like your anchor set up…. The only thing I don’t like is the vertical rod holder arrangement,,, vertical stuff can really get in the way if you hook a big fish that moves around quickly,,, even the vertical seat can get in the way…..
Sweet rig bro, I just did my 1965 Mirrocraft 12 foot V-hull with an extremely similar setup. I purchased the hull with trailer for $1000, then the bass boat deck style diy build was a extra $1000, now i’m on the look for a 6-9hp motor and that will likely cost more than the whole project ($1,500-$3,000)
my trolling motor the same, it works well reverse on my boat.... which the main motor has only forward so is handy to back away from things. I wouldl like to mount in front like yours in future
Awesome job on the boat. And good video. I'm looking to do the same thing here pretty soon. I'll probably come back to this video a few time for ideas. 👍
Where’d you get that box for the battery. Great idea sweet boat by the way. Excellent job on the boat in my opinion you’re better off with that trolling motor. I’ve had a bow mount and a transom mount dows exactly the same job for way less money
Keep that little trolling motor. Everybody talks about bow mount so I got one but they suck on a lightweight aluminum boat. They are too touchy and the pedals over correct. A spot lock would be awesome and a remote might work well. Forget pedals though. Just keep what you have. You will have better control than with a pedal.
Hey, great video. No clue what you do for work, but a boat designer company should be looking to hire you as a boat or boat gear designer. Nice job on outfitting your Yacht.
Nice boat. Like it. Kickers are priced pretty much by age and brand. I really should get one of these. And good gawd! Think you can find a bigger & longer pair of needle nose pliers??? 🤣🤪🤣
What area of Western New York? I am a So Cal transplant now going on 28 years but grew up east of Rochester and have an Aunt that still lives in Attica. I still love all of Upstate, Finger Lakes and Western in particular.
I’m disabled and this is as close as I can probably do to my own. Does the boat “feel” much heavier from using 2x4 instead of aluminum bracing? The heavier, the harder for me. It would probably never leave the lake it would end up in. Thanks and good job.
Dude ive got a 12 foot sea nymph were doin something like that i take you and your dad go on it too? Im putting a minn kota edge and a little out board on the back of the boat do you think yours was pretty stable
Oh yeah it’s plenty stable I stand all over it do whatever I want with two people at staple as well if you’re both standing got a pay little bit more attention but still very doable only thing that you cannot do is if you have an outboard and a motor on the back you cannot put the battery in the back as well take it for me I tried almost took on water in the back 😂😂😂 Good luck on your bill thanks for stopping by the channel
@@OutpourOutdoors no problem at all have you tried mounting a bow mount by chance were guna try n get away with a edge bowmount up front and i was thinking about running a little tiny 2.5 in the back or something any tips on weight distribution and those kind off trolling motors on these little v bottoms?
@Outpour Outdoors thats awesome..ive got a 12 footer too, it only has a 6hp and wont plane, but i just picked up a 9hp motor, so thats awesome knowing your 8hp moves it that well.....thanks!
This is an awesome build. I'm looking to build something similar with a little lower deck for stability while winter duck hunting. How have you felt in the boat? Any rolling?
nice build man! I am actually picking up essentially this same boat! how is the stability? I am a big boy (300lbs). this will be the first boat I'll be fishing from ever... any tips for bigger bodies of water? any downsides from your build u wish you could change?
My fishing buddy is 300. Couple suggestions…..put in a floor not a deck (lower the center of gravity) being that high can really rock you. The floor is 5/8 plywood, with angle slluminum bolted underneath to stiffen. Aluminum doesn’t touch the boat but strengthens the wood. Carpeted the wood. Seat tops were reinforced with aluminum plating, then the seat mount plate mounted flush on top. Seat base is spring loaded with bass seat on top of it. Check weight rating on seat….they make big boy seats rated for 300 so you don’t break the back setting the hook.
Not to be a jerk but, I'm looking at a lot of weight for that 12 footer. Have you weighed the rig yet with yourself? Person's, motor, and gear, as compared to the USCG rating?

A week later, I bought an aluminum boat, it gave me a good idea how to design it.
Just found a lil 12 ft boat like this for like $600 wasn’t sure I wanted it. But now I see the possibilities!!! Great video thanks
Thanks for the ideas!!!!!! Just got the same boat so now to go to work!!!!!
I have not done the rear deck in my boat, and after seeing this, what a great idea!! Doing it next weekend!!!!!
Great price and well built. Bought it for my twelve foot boat to get around the lake. Very powerful and easy to install.
Nice little boat, looks good after the makeover. Great upgrades. Perfect for Lake Erie fishing close to shore for walleye, bass and steelhead. Very nice bro.
Cool video. Completely gutted my 12 aluminum gamefisher and starting the subfloor. Watching your video gave me a few ideas. Thanks!
Perfect set up. Just got my 12ft boat and thinking about doing this same thing. Great video

damn bro you have a really really clean build i'm actually building a boat like this right now
How stable is it?
Nice video, you said you had the minnkota on the back before… did you flip the engine or the head of the minnkota to use it in the front?
my trolling motor the same, it works well reverse on my boat.... which the main motor has only forward so is handy to back away from things. I wouldl like to mount in front like yours in future
Nice have one. Can't wait to modify.
hahahahahaha "I added this lanyard in case I fly out of the boat my boat wont end up in Canada somewhere" that's funny as hell bro....
Do you have videos or anything to help explain how you built the deck
I thought about doing a similar thing to my boat but was worried about the weight rating after adding all that wood
Awesome job on the boat. And good video. I'm looking to do the same thing here pretty soon. I'll probably come back to this video a few time for ideas. 👍
Sweet rig! I have a older one with bench seats. I may use some of your improvements for mine. 👍👍👍
Is it stable?
Do you have any videos on tutorials on how to do this?
How stable is that with the high floor you installed? It looks really nice, but I’d think it would make stability difficult.

how is it w 2 people? it has a 550lb limit
I would add pods
How did you make the deck to support it?
I just inherited this exact model boat. Looking to copy what you’ve done please tell me there’s an instructional video! Thanks!
I love your setup😮
How stable is that front deck? Can you stand on it without tipping?
Ohhh yeah 100 percent stable
I like your boat and thanks for sharing BUT you have your gas tank in a closed compartment with a battery and wiring.
Love the boat. Starting something similar and was wondering how your framework under the deck looks,
Nice boat. Like it. Kickers are priced pretty much by age and brand. I really should get one of these. And good gawd! Think you can find a bigger & longer pair of needle nose pliers??? 🤣🤪🤣
Nice boat setup. Do you have to have the oars with you? If so, where do you store them in the boat?
Hate to be that guy but congrats on the boat, wife and child!
🍻
Thanks for the video. going to use some of your ideas! Subbed.

How did you mount your wood support
For the 2x4 block that the trolling motor is tightened down on. Is the block connected to the boat at all or just tightened down really good?
@@coreyjohansen9823 just tightened but worked great!
@OutpourOutdoors awesome thanks I may do the same
I have been want to add the same to the back of my 14' Northwood. Did you just use self tapping screw to attach it to the bench seat
Will the battery power my usb plug to charge my phone If so then what kind is it
Yes sir use it all the time it’s called a minn kota battery box look it up they are great! I charge in it and it has 2 12 volt ports
hey man, do you wish you had the foot pedal with your trolling motor?
I got some idea for my little 12ft now
So awesome thanks for stopping by good luck on your build my brother
Does your passenger sit on the seet up front with out any problems on the pedal seat. Just wandering I'm setting up my grumman the same way
How do you easily steer the electric trolling motor?
When I’m standing or siting up there I just steer it. The handle extends out to about double the length you see
Regular untreated wood sounds great
Nice job bro i will probably steal some of your great ideas.
Well done! Great boat🛶
Is the killz supposed to help stop rot or just so it doesn’t stain the woood. And how has it worked
Nice setup 👍
Nice boat

how much deeper in the water does is sit? I would like to mod mine, but i weigh like 245 lbs lol.
i’m in the same spot rn 😭
Shoul have used pressure treatment 2x4’s. I don’t think the Kilz will work, long term. Nice mods !!!
Pressure treated wood has a chemical reaction with aluminum. and makes thr the aluminum corrode over time.
Hows that 8hp motor? That enough for a boat like that?
That is plenty I have a boat like this and I have a 5.5 hp on it and she has some get up and go

One thing I do not like on my boat is clutter way to much junk for close to shore fishing but it all depends on individual needs.
