    Fantastic video. Wonder why I didn't run into this channel sooner.
    As a regular DT8 user (I love it so much I bought 4) I have something to say: For some specific users, DT8 might just be the perfect practical EDC light.
    1, It has the best-in-class portability. I ordered all my DT8s with the optional clip (just a standard flashlight clip), so I can clip the light to my belt on my side waist. When carried this way, the rectangular head design allows it to be just as "stealthy" as a D4v2, even with double the LEDs and much bigger heat fins. Even in summer, one layer of T-shirt is more than enough to conceal it, none of my friends ever knew I carried a flashlight with me until I take it out and lit it.
    2, I believe it has the best-in-class sustained brightness. With proper temp config and starting step, DT8 can stay well above 1000 lm from start to finish, which is kinda crazy for an 18650 light that carries like a D4v2 and weights only 100g.
    I totally agree with you that it's not for long-time use. It drains its battery like nothing else. I believe it's designed for people who wants/needs an EDC-able light capable of occasional high output.

This is by far the best review of this light in particular as well as all the other lights you cover. Keep grinding, your work ethic and commitment will not go unnoticed.

    Excellent video. Somehow your videos pop up in my feed almost as soon as I buy a given Hank light. It's not a bad thing. Last time it was the 4DSV2 that I ordered from Jackson, and today it's the DT8 coming directly from Hank. I opted for W2 emitters, as I do with most of my Hank lights. Starting to think that I'm a boring man. I did stray a bit and buy a D4V2 with 5700K 519A. A bit too floody for me at first; changed the optic to a more focused model and like the light a lot more. The tint isn't too rosy, either.
    It seems like the bulk of the community prefers a rosy tint. I work with lights and look at rosy all day long, every day. Last thing I want when I'm not working is rosy. So, I'm the guy who'd order 6500K SST-20. An alternate perspective. :)

    If carried in a small holster on the belt, it will sit flush against your body as opposed to sticking out like the head on a large thrower. Yet you still get crazy performance.

      Yep, giving the impression that cells “pump out 25 amps” and some other misconceptions is a bit misleading. The 25a referenced with regards to the molicell is simply a constant discharge rate, ie: the cell can have 25a drawn from it without suffering a catastrophic event. If a regulation board is drawing current form a cell then that current is constant regardless of the cell itself. The only difference would be that a cell with a higher constant discharge rating may suffer with less battery sag and therefore run at a higher voltage than one with a lower constant discharge rating, thus providing longer run times and/or performance. The higher the constant discharge rating the better is the general rule, but not because the cells are somehow magically different, just they’ll suffer less sag, run longer and hopefully not go into thermal runaway 😂.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks! The P26A is capable of 35A pulses, but 25A is the maximum constant current that the cell can provide. The FET can't really force more out of the cell than its highest constant current capability

    Just got a KR4 with the 9amp driver and 219b's and a Brass D4V2 to match it. I noticed they came running the fetless firmware but I wonder if the 50% fet would be fine for the 219b's 🤔

    Very handy review, thanks. I see though that the DT8, as well as other flashlights by Emisar, don't have a charging port. It's a shame, and I feel like it's kind of a deal breaker at this price point, unless it's a diving flashlight..

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 роки тому +3

      Glad you liked the review! These lights are very targeted towards enthusiats, who generally don't like charging ports and have tons of extra batteries - I personally prefer my lights to not have ports, as it adds size and unneccessary complexity, and is a major failure point.
      That said, the Noctigon K1 and K9.3 from Hank do have USB-C ports on their 21700 battery tubes. This has actually been removed from the soon-to-be-released Emisar DM11, so Hank must not find the port particularly valuable.
      If you do really like these lights but want a charging port, the FireFlies E07x Pro has very similar features and USB-C charging. It's about the same price as the DT8, uses a better driver, but is slightly larger with a 21700 and 7 LEDs. I'll review one eventually

      @@LuxWad Thanks for the info!
      Pardon my noobness, is the failure point of the charging port around waterproofing, or something else?
      I'm looking for a decently strong flashlight that I could also mount on my motorcycle as an aux, which is why I feel like a port is important.. :)
      (Flashlights that I encountered so far that look like they may fit the bill for me are wurkkos TS21 for a smaller one, or maybe Sofirn SP36 pro)

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 роки тому +1

      It's mainly due to waterproofing yes. In general lights with charging ports are less impact resistant too, but that depends on the light.
      The TS21 is very good, but it can only sustain about 140 lumens or so which may not be enough for you. The Sofirn is very good as well, what size and features are you looking for? I do think the FireFlies E07x or E12R would be very good options.

    • @ohreally1021
      @ohreally1021 2 роки тому

      @@LuxWad Not sure about the features, aside from being able to switch on to a very low light so I don't get blinded. I dp like a magnetic tail cap and a spinning head like on Nicron flashlights, but that doesn't come often :)
      Where do you get a FireFlies E07x? Don't seem to find them for sale..

    • @LuxWad

      Fireflies is available at Jackson Lee's store, which the only place I would recommend buying them as unfortunately they have a poor reputation for customer service. I think the E07x is out of stock right now due to the chip shortage, since they use more sophisticated drivers components have been difficult to source.
      If you can't get a hold of one, the Noctigon K9.3 is very good too. You could look at the SP36 BLF for something less expensive. The Sofirn IF25A is excellent as well

Since Osram only makes the W2 (CULPM1.TG) in cool white or colored varieties, a tint-ramping light couldn't really use those emitters, unless you just wanted something super weird I guess

      @@digitalcircuit I see the D4SV2 as the most practical light Hank makes right now, so the yeah CREEs seem like a very good match in that regard. I do think the W2s would be great as well, and everybody raves about the beam with that emitter/optic combo, so I do want to try it out and see what the hype is all about.
      A UV mule would definitely be awesome to try out sometime!

    Don't you think with the simple UI and disabling of Turbo that this would be a more useful general purpose light that's useful to a lot of people, and so less niche? And then when you rarely want/need the extra power, you can always enable Turbo (and/or the advanced AI?) again.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 роки тому +1

      Not really, it's still expensive and isn't super efficient, I think the D4V2 would be better practically speaking. The D4SV2 and E07 are both better I think, they're much less niche in their usability while having all the enthusiast features. Compared to those, the main reason to get the DT8 is for the crazy turbo and weird design.
      That's just my opinion though :)

    • @TwinbeeUK
      @TwinbeeUK 2 роки тому

      @@LuxWad Oh I'd have thought the efficiency is down to the LED type, not to the flashlight. Doesn't the D4SV2 (which I was also thinking of buying) have the same UI, and also a Turbo mode? Any idea of the max lumens on both these devices assuming they both use the Cree XP-L HI LED? I love the shape on the DT8 (it doesn't roll), so I was hoping to buy this one instead of the D4SV2...

      I would recommend something super bright and throwier for one channel, specifically the W1, W2, or XP-L Hi. For the second channel I would go with the Nichia 219b for a floody and high-CRI option. The LH351D would be a good option as well, super floody and very bright.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 роки тому

      Sorry I don't really understand the question, are you looking for the E21A light with the lowest output? In that case it would be the D4V2, since it has only half the LEDs and is much more pocketable than the DT8. Both are extremely low though, it doesn't make much difference

    • @JMGeranimo
      @JMGeranimo 2 роки тому +1

      @@LuxWad yeah , sorry I mis stated my question. I was referring to the driver's but think the standard one is what I am looking for for the lowest moonlight. Just want an extremely warm light with a 1000 lumens is good. My collection keeps growing lol.the dt8 is tempting for the extra power though too.

    • @LuxWad
      @LuxWad  2 роки тому

      Oh okay. For the E21A lights, the driver is actually the same between the two, just with a higher maximum regulated level, so the current on the lowest level will be the same. The DT8 will technically be brighter simply because it has twice as many LEDs, but practically speaking the difference is negligible. That being said, the D4V2 is the better E21A light in my opinion, since it's better for EDC and it still produces 1,000 lumens. If you go for the DT8, I'd recommend a different LED to get more power.
