WoW is the WoW killer.
Been saying this. WoW is killing itself, but the MMO genre is so washed that nothing has claimed the throne. Everything of similar or higher quality fails to capture all the criteria WoW met for us back in the day with a stellar world, lore, gameplay, pvp, raid designs, and quality dungeons. FFXIV falls short in too many departments to dethrone it as do ESO and GW2, but maybe Ashes will live up to the hype.
@@BasedChadman Out of curiosity, what does FFIV do wrong?
@@sirnonapplicable Pvp is half-baked and virtually nonexistent, it's not far off from raid or die, there aren't enough solo mechanics to farm outside raid days, tomestone roulettes are boring and lack variety (love spamming 2 dungeons every day for resource), and there's no incentive to do repeatable content like m+ in the game.
Relic weapon farming is basically the only worthwhile grind outside raids and is always rendered useless halfway into an xpac anyway, so it's hard to justify playing the game for any reason but static raiding aside from cosmetics and social aspects. I love the game, but it really needs more types of content and not just content in general.

Because looks and likeability are so important that these facilities are often overlooked. But they just assume that the person they are with, are of similar intellect. And I'm like why don't you go test her in a simple and casual way and find out.
But you're a ferret for fuck's sake; why would you feel attacked by a walrus statement?

@@daviouscram2101 I assume you meant "faculties".
This is not not attack, but yeah. There are a BUNCH of ppl who are illiterate and a bunch that cannot add nor add negatives, it isn't funny it is a sign of a failed system. If we are talking about "western" society, most of these countries, often included in that category, are some of the richest ever in human history...and yet there is still a system in place that makes it so some people MUST leave schooling before becoming literate in reading and mathematics. Any system with as much funding as these have should have zero possibility of having any person fall through the cracks.
Capitalism is bad because there are illiterate people.

It's so true man, so many of us MMO players are desperate to always find that perfect experience, or have that combo of things in an MMO we crave.
just find another game, stop talking like 79 yo old man
youre juknies, craving that initial high you once had when you first started playing.
I think MMO players are just trying to find real life - or at least a game that's as close to it as possible but that doesn't require them to actually do real life.
josh: calling out scammers
asmon: "if you wanna scam someone, do x"...
A “scam mmo” should be called “scamMO”
The hidden wheel everyone overlooks with all these scams. Money laundering. What's the best way to legally give yourself money that you got illegally? Make a Kickstarter and fund it yourself.
How would you fund it yourself? Can you fund projects on Kickstarter in a completely anonimous way? Money laundering usually involves cash payment since it can't be associated with a person.
@@karakter222 It's not about anonymous, it's about it being difficult to track exactly where the money has come from and gone to - money laundering doesn't have to be physical transactions that have no electronic signature, it just has to be easy to overlook and handwave away at a glance - by the time anyone actually investigates everyone and everything involved has had time to conceal themselves again, change identifying factors, remove evidence, transfer money to accounts that can't be reached etc.
I can't explain the exact mechanisms because I'm no accountant or fraud investigator but crowdfunding has absolutely been used to launder money. Doesn't mean any of these scam MMOs are, but it's certainly been done.
You can give your friends and relatives a 100 dollars and tell them to use them for the Kickstarter and voilá, clean money
Charity is much more ez to use for money laundering
This is the dumbest shit I've ever heard and, no, it wouldn't work.
Chronicles of Elyria was pretty much the first "Nigerian prince" of the MMO Kickstarter world It seems, which is why they were able to raise such a massive amount of money, because people didn't know any better

Asmongold nodding along to the description of being conned after he gets conned into paying to play each character in tbc because of nostalgia.
This is a joke right? Genuine question.
@@Bramandin I mean, there are multiple instances where asmon shits on Blizzard, the state of WoW, etc.. but at the same time keeps that subscription active and takes full advantage of numerous paid services, even ones he's directly spoken out against. That kinda makes all the takes he has about scams a li'l' sussy
thing about Asmongold is that he isn't getting conned. He's fully aware of the situation he's in. It's not being conned, it is being addicted.
You people don't seem to understand how much money he makes from streaming. Why would loose face as the ultimate wow nerd by skipping on any however minor advantage, no matter how pricy it may be. Because for him, it's literally pocket change if that.
And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with what he's doing.
@@matteoar If you can trick someone into being addicted, that's the same thing. WoW is a product made by a company for the purpose of making money. Once they reach a point with players that they can completely screw the game but know they'll still make money, you've been conned with very little you can do about it. He's conned by knowing what they're capable of versus what they're likely to produce for the foreseeable future. He's also conning himself into believing it'll get better.

The thing about the dying game is so real, I don't know why but it just is and it's not only for MMOs. I remember back in in 2016-2017 I was playing a MOBA made by Epic Games called Paragon. In April 2018 the game was shut down due to a number of reasons. During the last months the developers were obviously struggling (fewer updates, fewer patches, less communications on their social media, less communication with youtubers that had followed the game since its inception) but people kept playing nonetheless. However, the very moment they announced the game was going to shut down in one month almost every player left immediately.
It was almost surreal, a few days prior you'd be able to find games without any issue and the following week matchmaking queues were 3+ minutes long and you'd often match with the same people two or three times in a row. Only in the last day many players came back to play for the last time.
It made no sense to me, after I heard the news I did the opposite, that month I tried playing every single day. I wanted to play as much as I could in the little time that was left.
holy shit, I haven't heard Star Citizen mentioned since 1993. It's still going? dang, going to blow us all away after 52 years of development and 2 trillion dollar budget.

To be fair , when Face of mankind was still running, a majority of those claims were true
Face of Mankind was one of the greatest games of all time. I only wish I had found it earlier before it went down. :(
iicr Furcadia is one of the first/oldest running MMOs in existance, went there once, found a golden toilet at the end of a rainbow and then found the entire userbase of five people huddled around a campfire, trying to ignore me so that i would go away. 10/10.
Fun fact about furcadia: it's user population has almost always been like 90% women. It's also not really an MMO, it's more like really old second life.
@@ninjaone1 Didn't know about that, didn't really experience much while visiting it other than exploring the barren wasteland that it is now. Though it is definetly an MMO, it even holds the world record for longest running MMORPG. Secondlife is one too, after all MMO stands for Massive Multiplayer Online, which fits the bill perfectly for either game.
Best way to defeat scammers is to have zero money all the time.
When the scammers come with their palm out. Turn out your pockets and show them how your situation is much more concerning than their scam. In the end, you may walk out with some money for lunch. If not, you were planning on going hungry anyways, so no new problems.
Walrus was close. The devs of these types of things call them "whales"
People taking advantage of naive and stupid kids with their moms credit cards who want to be a part of a community.
*looks at Asmon's chat*
It's hard to argue with that.
The worst part about this is; It's not exclusive to scammers. Much of this manipulation is common practice with actual publishers. Hense the rise of cash-shops and MEGA-transactions. Or delux editions and level boosts. :P
what’s sad, is how uneducated people are. Even in europe, where Internet ve been there for pretty long time, but people still prefer to learn the world around them through rumors, and “urban legends”. Just google reviews about project before putting money in it, jiz
Walrusus are smart, just watch the documentary "The Walrus and The Carpenter"
Oh little oysters!
Face of Mankind was actually a game back in the day and had in my opinion one of the greater sandbox concepts. It was basically an anarchistic real world where you had a job and made relationships with other players and if you didn't, tough luck. You could go the bandit route, be policemen or military. Basically like GTA RP, but more advanced.

yo, that video from this dude is actually amazing, throwing him a sub right away
1:28 "Doubling money, no scam"
" You'll be called Executive Producer " in credits. Okay, but can you play the Curb Your Enthusiasm music over it?
6:45 A walrus would probably be harder to trick into doing something detrimental to it than a naive human. Animals are very keen with their instincts and especially wild animals only do things that directly benefit them (and their species).
Something to note about Games Workshop is they used to be good, now their models from what I can tell are over priced for the quality you get.
Games workshop models were pretty average back in the day when they were not as expensive. They are expensive as fuck now but the best selection both in individual and general quality you can find... and it’s a massive gap.
Every Asmon reaction video I've seen so far:
Asmon: Mmhm, yeah, right, yep, uh-huh, yes.
**pauses video**
Asmon: **spits truth**
**unpauses video**
Asmon: Mmhm, yeah, right, yep, uh-huh, yes.
10:45 That's not an exception to the Hanlon's razor. When you know someone is directly benefiting from doing something bad or allowing that bad to happen that's an adequate explanation of malice intentions and should be investigated. Hanlon's razor is used when there's no adequate explanation for malice. If you have to go through multiple unlikely assumption to attribute someone's actions as malice while it could be easily explained with stupidity then likely that's the case. In a way Hanlon's razor is similar to the presumption of innocence and used to filter out unlikely theories.
I "played" Furcadia before knowing what a furry was. It is like Habbo Hotel. Just virtual environments to chat with other people
Face of Mankind was an actual MMO though. It was pretty innovative even for today's standards.
I was there in the 80s when advertisers realised the power of advertising to children. Child pressures parent into getting them some garbage, so you got an explosion of cartoon channels, morning cartoons and shit, designed to sell the shittiest cheapest toys they could design and make.
It's not really any different, they were just bigger companies.
my dad ordered like five board games from Kickstarter 5 years ago. Now four of them came, took about a 2 years for the fourth to finally come tho. However I see it as a mirracle that he got at least 4 out of 5 now
I love watching these man. Not being here for every stream makes me feel i lose so much of those discussions but heh he'll keep posting that here. Thanks dude, dont want to miss any of these.
The biggest scam that isn't shady is that Liquid Death drink. It's literally just water, and they even say its just water. But people buy it for the marketing.
The Face of Mankind one was actually legit. It used to be a small sandbox MMO which incentivized players to RP as whatever faction they were playing.
I know it sounds cringe, but it was really fun back in the day. I remember organizing jail breaks wheneber the police faction was sleeping, or that time when a base raid escalated in a full server riot and every non-government faction breaking into the parliment.
The ad before this video was a crypto metaverse mech scam game. The way everything falls into place is magical.
Selling early access and not having free demos is what brought the scams.
Can we have Asmongold come back and react to this video after being tricked into buying New World?

The Dreamworld situation is basically the plot for the movie Revolver by Guy Ritchie.
ahhh Furcadia... I used to play on that long ago, but after they added the ERP section of it (aka: "FurN")... is when it went down hill...
the whole mentioning of scammers are now targeting kids with MMOs reminds me of the trend of making kid friendly MMOs like Wizard101 which main goals are too try and get kids to not just ask there parents too pay but also get them to a point where they will steal there credit cards to pay for the sub and micro transactions

It's funny hearing you talk about MMO players waiting for the next game, hoping that one doesn't suck and stuff. My background is largely competitive card games and it's always "this expansion is so unbalanced, but the next one will fix the problems!" and then everyone keeps playing. We're are so beaten down. Lol
Mind you, card gamers also complain about their favorite deck being too weak, their favorite deck being too popular, the meta being too narrow, the meta being too broad, and archetypes getting nerfed that they don't play but kind of wanted to try out someday. Maybe we just like to complain.
Star Citizen is better not a SCAMMO....I've bought 3 ships

Another thing; kids don’t have liability. If the people scamming get the money from them and they’re under 18 there’s actually nothing that you can do, parents would have to report that the child stole the card and press charges to get money back. Whereas if a adult fell for a credit card scam they can call the company and have it investigated and they can get their money back that way. Kids using credit cards spend the most amount of money on stupid shit, so there’s ways to protect the credit card companies from people charging back things their kids bought.
