  • The kids dance to the McCoys follow up hit to Hang On Sloopy (which was also on the top 10 board this week as an instrumental by the Ramsey Lewis Trio). Although it only made it to #7 on the Billboard chart, it's #1 this week on Bandstand......Brought to you by Noxzema Complexion Lotion (a little commercial for context)
    Airdate: December 18, 1965

Loved finding this video! I was 14 years old with my very 60's bob hair cut, my children and grandchildren love it ! What a surprise that I had a closeup, wish I could remember wild blonde (or redhead next to me), I see now it was Peggy on my other side. What pure joy on our faces!
Final moments I am dancing like crazy, loved the shoulder shrugs and arm movements too. My cousin Debby there with me that day, camera caught her acting shy, covering her face. Such great memories, thank you for posting! Proof of very happy days gone by.

    • @YCDTI

Hi Sue! It’s always great hearing from the dancers on the show. If I’m understanding your post correctly it looks like, of the 4 girls you mention, going from our right to left, it’s your cousin Debby with a bow in her hair (acting shy), Peggy Waggoner, you and the blond girl dancing (wildly at the end) to your right is Debbie Sewell.
I’m glad you liked the clip and could share it with your family. I’ll be posting more of this episode soon. Were you on other episodes or just this one?
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your memories!

On this day in 1966 {February 10th} the McCoys performed their covered version of "Fever" on the NBC-TV weekly variety program, 'Hullabaloo!'...
Seven weeks earlier it had peaked at #7 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Top 100 chart, and it spent a total of eleven weeks on the Top 100...
"Fever" was originally recorded by Little Willie John in 1956, his version reached #24 on the Top 100 and on July 21st, 1956 it peaked at #1 {for 5 weeks} on Billboard's R&B Singles chart...
Three other covered versions have charted, Peggy Lee {#8 in 1958}, Rita Coolidge {#76 in 1976}, and in the United Kingdom, by Helen Shapiro {#36 in 1964}...
Between 1965 and 1968 the McCoys had nine records on the Top 100 chart, two made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "Hang On Sloopy", for one week in September of 1965...
Group co-founder Rick Derringer, born Ricky Dean Zehringer, celebrated his 72nd birthday six months ago on August 5th, 2019...

To anyone who danced on The AB around this time in 1965 and Peggy Names. Well here is another real tear jerker. This episode was on Saturday Dec. 18Th. 1965. And I,m sorry I missed it. Well a week later it's Christmas and hearing The Christmas Waltz by Frank Sinatra, I'll be Home for Christmas by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole and have yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland and I,m dreaming of a White Christmas again by Bing Crosby. And you talk about a bunch of really teary eyed Marines. And I was sure wishing I was back Home in Washington DC with my 3 older Brothers and Parent,s opening my Christmas Presents and sitting down to My Moms great Christmas dinner. But we made the best of it. And in mid March of 66 I rotated back Home. And Ms. Peggy. My Wife is a San Fernando Valley Girl. We have been Married going on 49 long beautiful years and still together and very much in love. Well I like Dick Clark and I sure enjoyed American Bandstand and loved watching you all dance. You all did a good job. God Bless.

@ 2:12 Peggy's incredible smile. Something weird is going on, because I mentioned to a subscriber from the USA last night that Peggy is one of my fave dancers (even though I'm over 80, living in a Land Down Under & it's a kinda 80 year old version of a teenage crush). Every time I open my MacBook, there seems to be a picture of Peggy on my screen. Not that I mind...🥰😍🤩 🤣Wish I could give YCDTI more than ONE like!!!👍👍👍👍👍

WOW! This seems like a bizarro alternate universe with the Ramsey Lewis Trio in the top ten with "Hang On Sloopy," a then recent #1 Billboard Hot 100 hit by The McCoys, who in turn had a #1 AB hit with this groovy cover of "Fever," which nonetheless strikes me as more something Ramsey Lewis and his Trio might have covered!! CHEERS!
