One can really see the transformation from watching an AB show in 63 to less than two short years later. Much younger crowd, different styles and changing music.
Fantastic second-season L.A. Bandstand footage featuring "Roll Call", a holdover from the Philly days, to later be replaced by "The Question of the Day". The L.A. studio set was almost completed, just missing the familiar "checkerboard" backdrop of the mid 60's. Thanks Aaron!

Loved this song soooo much! Loved Lou Christie! This is so much fun watching this video with Dick Clark! Great channel/blog/site! Love watching these amazing videos!♥️♥️♥️
Really fun to watch! I was nine when this aired and was probably watching. American Bandstand with Dick Clark was a favorite show of mine. Thanks for sharing.
I met Dick Clark during the grand opening of Pala Casino, in Pala, CA. back in, maybe April of 2001. I was a prep-cook at that time and was exiting the Mama's Cafe and guess who opened the door for me.......Dick Clark himself! He was the host of the hotel's grand opening. Lucky for me, I had in my big pockets two small digital cameras. I still have that photo of him & me.
Thanks to the color Van Morrison ep from '67, I can imagine what this set looked like. So we know that the curtain backdrop is blue, and the "ab" letters on the big circle are a light blue. During this era, I always laugh when Dick introduces a song, and all the kids are just sitting there looking around like "do we get up or what?". Then when they do get up, it takes them forever to start dancing, and the song is almost over by then! Lol I'm glad they did away with that prom/school dance format, and just had the kids out there on the floor ready when the music starts. I always felt that Frankie Valli would have killed this song, but Lou did great, it's a classic! Another great clip Aaron, thanks!
That’s actually a really good point Thruthealcove KC. I assume the set colors are the same as the ‘67 color episode with the dark blue curtain and powder blue podium and round logo sign, but I’m not sure about that. That’s how i imagine it too. Great thought!
Right. The color episode I was referring to with Van Morrison aired on November 11, 1967, and it was apart of VH1's Best Of American Bandstand series back in the mid 90s. That's how I'm able to "guess" that the set here has the same colors as the following seasons up until September of '69 when everything changed, including the infamous AB logo that was used all the way until 1989!
Great song, great video. Interesting watching guys and girls my parent's age cutting a rug. I can see why my mum and dad enjoyed listening to this era of music during long drives during the early 80's when I was a kid. Great stuff, always a joy to watch.
Let's hear it from 1965 my young 2020 friends. The main thing is you have fun, it's your turn. I really like your music too, especially Amy Winehouse, Rehab. Too bad she passed so young. I like rap too. I'm 67. HAVE A GREAT TIME MY YOUNG FRIENDS!
Dare I say in this song, he was " this close" to alittle "rap" in between the falsetto " lightening strikes again" firecrackers setting off? I was 7 yrs when this aired, but by 9-10 yrs I caught up with this song (older sister's friends 45 vinyl collection) and watched Dave Clark. A true fav song of mine. Didn't realize the guy behind the great voice was soooo handsome. Reminds me of summers at the lake I lived next to. And during big storms I'd see huge trees being split by lightning. Thank-you for bringing this goody - oldie for us to enjoy once again. 🎶🎤👤💖😊☝🎵
The curtain made the studio looked more closed in. Glad they eventually removed it. Awesome looks at some of the regulars in their first year on Bandstand!

I was a junior in High school then. The problem Juan, is that today, I'm a old man. I still know what a pretty girl looks like, but, I'm not supposed to look at them. I have no record, but if I try to just talk to a girl that age, I'm branded a pervert. Somehow, I can't imagine myself dancing with an old gal 100 pounds over what she weighed back then. I danced a lot during that time, with girls that would let you "lead" the dance, as men are supposed to. Today, the ones my age, lead me !!!!.
I was in the WAR in 10/1/ 65 --3/23/66 Aside the war it was good times. I do miss those times. My wife had a tough crush on Lou Christie. AND--- I still think I was better!

I mentioned to a subscriber of YCDTI last night that I have a massive case of 80 an year old Down Under version of limerence (a pointless AND irrational crush) on Peggy Waggoner, as well as Kathy McInerny. The Light In MY Darkness (in a 42 plus year relationship) is a kinda cross between those two. The dazzling smiles get me all the time. UA-cam now keeps suggesting these clips, which is kinda spooky. Not that I mind, of course...🤩😍

I always enjoy reading the occasional comments of people, who actually attended these dance events, back in the day. (Nothing I can find with this one!) I do feel jealous not growing up a teen in the 60's. lol. What an amazing time it must to been alive!
I couldn’t stop thinking about this song all morning. I never knew who made it. I thought it was Frankie Valli. All I remember is the chorus. Actually, it’s a straight Motown influenced track for most of the song.

0:06 All those young men saying their age, made me wonder, how many ended up in Vietnam 😥
I was in the WAR in 10/1/ 65 --3/23/66 Aside the war it was good times. I do miss those times. My wife had a tough crush on Lou Christie. AND--- I still think I was better!
Young people knew how to dance then.
Simple happy innocent.
YES!
.....and classy.
There I am, the first one up: Steve Schreiner 15
Remember hearing this late 12 /65 on WFILPhilly's Famous 56 ! I was 8 in 3rd grade . Remember my friends older bro sent to SouthVietnam late 8- early 9/65.
Love the footage and do you have "Sunday Will Never Be The Same"-Spanky and our Gang from the summer of '67, Don was in it. Found it on ABdancers channel.
Stevie G thanks and yes I do. I love Spanky and Our Gang and I have many more clips with Don in them as well. I definitely will be showing that clip soon....I have so many clips I’m eager to post including the ones you’ve mentioned in the past. Stay tuned!
+Stevie G thanks for the nod!
dancer don One question, what was the age limit on American Bandstand? Because, some say in was 19 or when you were in your mid 20s. You response please.
Stevie G the age limit was "officially" 14-18. I began dancing on AB when I was 14 and continued until I was 23.
Thanks for responding.
No land whales with. Tattoos in site , brill.
I was nine years old at that time. Looking back, I realize how sharp kids dressed back then. It's a completely different story nowadays.
Great song 😎
A classic 🎉❤😊
I always enjoy reading the occasional comments of people, who actually attended these dance events, back in the day. (Nothing I can find with this one!) I do feel jealous not growing up a teen in the 60's. lol. What an amazing time it must to been alive!
Me and my sister joann we watched this on tv
BOYS AND GIRLS DRESED WITH CLASS BACK THEN.
The guy at 2:45 "feeling the music".
No Braces in the 60s?
2:49. I'm getting a Kramer vibe.
Men's fashion hasn't change since the 1960's.
I couldn’t stop thinking about this song all morning. I never knew who made it. I thought it was Frankie Valli.
All I remember is the chorus.
Actually, it’s a straight Motown influenced track for most of the song.
So cool to see kids being carefree kids, in the middle of a lot of chaos in the world at the time. A lesson?
All the girls are looking to see if they are on camara!
Some of the dancers struggling with the unusual rhythms in this song - although a few people nail it.
